What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?
The Holy Ghost can bless your life in many ways. Christ promised His Apostles that the Holy Ghost would “teach you all things” (John 14:26) and “guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). He also said that the Holy Ghost “shall testify of me” (John 15:26).
Likewise, the Holy Ghost can help you. Through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, you can recognize and understand truth and make right choices and inspired decisions.
The Holy Ghost can inspire you with thoughts and ideas, warn you, and comfort you in times of sorrow.
You may have already felt His influence at times in your life. That influence includes “love, joy, [and] peace” (Galatians 5:22).]
Almost everyone has felt the Holy Ghost at some time. But there is a difference between experiencing the occasional influence of the Holy Ghost and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Although the Holy Ghost may temporarily comfort someone or reveal truth to them, the gift of the Holy Ghost is reserved for those who have been baptized and confirmed into Christ’s Church. This gift is the privilege of enjoying the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost conditional upon keeping the commandments.
The gift of the Holy Ghost is given when a person is confirmed a member of the Church after baptism by someone having priesthood authority from God. It is given by the person having authority laying their hands upon the head of the person who was baptized and giving them a blessing to receive the Holy Ghost (Acts 8:14-18). Whether or not we then receive this great gift depends on our keeping the commandments of God.

The Holy Ghost can bless your life in many ways. I know, personaly, it has affected me in the little choices that I make every day. Though it may start little, every prompting of the Holy Ghost is an important one. The Gift of the Holy Ghost is one of the greatest gifts man can recieve, other than the gift to love. I honestly have grown closer to my personal companion, and this has impacted my life in so many little and big ways.

Colin answered…
He confirms the truth of things to us.
He does this either through thoughts or feelings. Because of the Holy Ghost we can 'feel' that the things are true. If those things are not true he will not give us those good feelings. Those feelings have been described as uplifting, enlightening.
The Holy Ghost teaches us all things we should do.
For anyone wanting to know that these things are true for themselves, my advice is ask the source of all truth, i.e. God himself, and He will answer that prayer through the Holy Ghost.

The Gift of the Holy Ghost to me is something very special and is one of the greatest gifts we receive from God, with the Holy Ghost we can have promptings from it such as a good feeling, calmness, gentleness just like when you walk away from a service project you feel great about what you did, that is the Holy Ghost. Why we call it a Ghost is not because it scares you or anything, it is something we can't see but we know is real through those promptings. we receive this gift from God when we are baptized by the priesthood authority such as John the Baptist. Once we are baptized we receive it as a constant companion, which in other words is with you forever and will always be by your side if you live faithfully follow the commandments and live Jesus Christs teachings.

The gift of the Holy Ghost is the ability to have the influence of the Holy Spirit whenever it is necessary or desired. Whenever I need confirmation that what I am doing is in keeping with the will of the Lord, I can ask and know that I will receive personal revelation. The Holy Ghost speaks to our hearts and our minds. When the Holy Ghost is inspiring us, we feel happy, peaceful, clear in mind, and ideas come that we never would have thought of on our own. As long as I am working my hardest to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, I can know that I will receive guidance for my family. The Holy Ghost inspired me to make decisions such marrying my wife, moving to Arizona, and when to start my family. I can proceed through life without fear, because I know that the Lord approves of the decisions in my life.

The Holy Ghost is how God guides and directs all his children on earth who strive to keep his commandments. It can bless our lives in countless ways when we pray for guidance in our live. It can help us recall information in time of need, give direction in how we should live our life, inform us of the correctness of our decisions we have made, and lead us in the direction we should steer our thoughts and actions. With all the stresses and challenges we face on earth with it's abundance of sin and wrongful deeds, I'm not sure how my life would be without the influence of the Holy Ghost directing my thoughts and actions.

Each and every day I ask my Father in Heaven to bless my life so that I can live worthy of and follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost. I have promptings each and every day about things that need to be done with my family and friends and I am earnestly striving to follow and act on those promptings. This brings me much peace in this turbulent world. I have a peace that cannot be described. I know that my Father in Heaven is aware of my needs through this gift of the Holy Ghost, and know that each and every one of His children can have this priceless gift in their life.

I receive a "spiritual hug" that feels as though my whole body has just 'shuddered'...yet without the actual shudder! I feel as though I am loved more than ever during those moments, and am grateful they come, and are not one-time limited saved moments. It is my knowledge we experience being saved as much of Christianity believes in...multiple times in our lives. I am grateful for the growth that offers me.

The prophets have said that this is the "greatest gift we can receive in mortality (on earth)." This gift is something very special to any individual who hearkens to the promptings of the Spirit. The gift of the Holy Ghost allows us to have the constant companionship of the Spirit through our everyday lives. In the Book of Mormon it says "I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do." The Holy Ghost is also referred to as "the comforter." John says "But the Comforter which is the Holy Ghost, will teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance." I know that the Holy Ghost is a special gift from our Heavenly Father and that it can guide us in the way we should live our lives!!

I never dreamed that I could actually receive revelations through the Holy Ghost. In fact before converting, when I would hear people talk about receiving revelation through the Holy Ghost I thought they were hoky, or crazy. Now, with prayer, some times fasting, and a question burning in my mind I have been blessed to receive not only revelation but a ton of testimony regarding LDS Doctrine.

We believe that the Holy Ghost can visit an honest investigator of the Gospel to declare the truth of it unto them, but he won't remain with them. On the other hand, if you have been baptised by someone holding the priesthood authority, you then have the opportunity to have an authorized priesthood holder or holders lay their hands upon your head and give you the gift of the Holy Ghost. We believe that if you remain worthy, the Holy Ghost will be your constant companion. He will guide you, direct you, warn you of danger, etc. He will testify of the Savior. He will call things to your remembrance. The scriptures outline many other gifts of the spirit.

Joy, comfort, understanding, peace, a regaining of the feeling of innocence, and of the importance of what's sweet, pure, and good in life. The Holy Spirit gives me permission to be starry-eyed and optimistic, and shows me again the side of life that's full of beauty and wonder. I thought I was too old, too jaded, and too knowing to feel that sort of hope anymore. But the Holy Spirit teaches me that life is full to overflowing with both good and bad, and there's no requirement to focus on the bad part. I've found great joy in seeing again with new eyes all the good there is in the world, in giving my whole heart to celebrating and extending it.

One of the greatest blessings I have seen in my life from the gift of the Holy Ghost is peace. When I prayed to know where I should attend college or graduate school, it was that feeling of peace that helped me know the right place for me. When I go through a really hard heartbreak, that feeling of peace lets me know that even though I hurt now and I feel lost or confused, as long as I follow Jesus Christ, I will be OK. When I pray or read the Book of Mormon or serve people around me, that feeling of peace confirms to me that what I am doing is what God wants me to do. In my opinion, peace is the greatest feeling in the world and we can have that blessing through the gift of the Holy Ghost.

In this crazy world, where God's laws are dismissed and man decides for himself what is truth and what is error. We need a way to be back in touch with the heavens. One of the Holy Ghost's missions is to witness of truth and warn of error. By the power of the Holy Ghost, we will know the truth of all things and can distinguish between truth and error. He speaks to our minds and our hearts.
How does it feel to be spoken to by the Spirit in your heart? It is warmth and light. It is joy and happiness. It builds our faith in Jesus Christ and God's Plan. You are filled with love and have peace that is beyond your own creation. When we are having these feelings, we can KNOW that the teaching is true. The antithesis meaning NOT having the Spirit's inspiration in your heart may be anger, frustration, darkness, hate or dislike, unrest, sadness, rejection of faith and/or disbelief. "... But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith..." Galatians 5:22
How does it feel to be spoken to by the Spirit in your mind? Ideas that open our minds and enlighten and feel like sunshine are true. Truth makes our knowledge grow, it makes sense and broadens our understanding. It is exciting and your mind feels enlarged. It gives confidence. The antithesis meaning NOT having the Spirit's inspiration in your mind may be a stupor of thought, no flow of ideas, stunted thinking, darkness, and/or intellectual lethargy. " Behold, thou knowest that thou hast inquired of me and I did enlighten thy mind and now I tell thee these things that thou mayest know that thou hast been enlightened by the Spirit of truth." D&C 6:15
The work of our lifetime is to learn the language of The Spirit. Understanding His promptings in our hearts and minds will aid us in distinguishing between truth and error. He can teach us the truth of all things. Armed with this knowledge, we can use our agency to choose truth, making safe navigation of this probationary state possible.

One of the greatest gifts is the gift of the Holy Ghost! It is like having a personal guide throughout life no matter where you are, the peace that can come in times of hardship or hurt. The guidance as we pray and listen for answers. I truly feel that I am guided by a Heavenly Father who knows me and loves me unconditionally. I am not sure how I would have made it through life without the blessings that the Holy Ghost can bring to us if we choose to listen and allow him to work through our lives by being obedient.

Many years ago I joined the church. I felt compeled to invistigate the Mormon church. My mind-set back then was based on what I heard from others. I prayed with all the faith that I had to know that this church was true. I knew from what little christian values I had distilled within me, that the Holy Ghost would provide me with an answer...The answer came as a sweet feeling to my heart. It was warm and pleasing to me. It felt like I had just accomplished or passed a great test on a high school project. I knew the church was right for me and that great blessing are in store as I abide by the precepts taught to me. This feeling was a great highlight in my life. Since then I try deligently to always listen to that small voice that whispers in my mind.

This is the central reason I'm a Mormon: I believe in the gift and power of the Holy Ghost. Without it life is absolutely worthless. I have a short fuse, but when I'm trying to live right and take a moment to say a prayer, it is amazing how the Holy Ghost will fill my soul. Once when I was upset with one of my children I called him into my office to chew him out. Instead, we had a prayer together, and the Spirit filled the room, allowing us to have a great discussion.
I have a lot of things on my mind: job, business, choir, running a home, and all that other constant wear and tear. There are a million little thoughts that constantly buzz around my head, mostly of things that I haven't gotten done. But one day each week I serve in the Temple. When I go there and sit peacefully and quietly, the Holy Ghost literally fills my heart to overflowing. Peace like no other place on earth envelopes me. Sure, the tasks are all awaiting me when I leave the sanctuary, but I am so much better equipped to accomplish them than before.
I am also very interested in learning and assimilating secular knowledge. I learn so many things that it is hard to keep them straight in my mind. But when I read with my faith in my peripheral vision as it were, the Spirit helps bring all things to my remembrance, and I can correlate the things that I am learning with each other and with my faith in God. I'm really not that smart myself, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, I can do a lot more.

The Holy Ghost is my constant companion if I am choosing and doing what is right. I feel the guidance of the spirit daily. I need that guidance as a mother, a missionary, and a friend. I have learned to listen to promptings even when at times they haven't made any sense. Once I do what I am prompted to do I can look back and see where I was needed. I don't question the promptings anymore. Even when I have lost my car keys and have been prompted to "do my laundry" I have learned to listen and have been able to find what I was looking for. I have felt protected and have felt protection for my family as well. Comfort from the Holy Ghost has touched my soul on numerous occasions. After heart-felt prayer and being overwhelmed with grief and stress the spirit has wrapped around me like a warm blanket and has wiped my fears and darkness away.

The Holy Ghost is Heavenly Fathers messenger to us, his children. So anything Heavenly Father wants us to know, feel, or do will be made known unto us through the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost testifies of the truthfulness of all things. The Holy Ghost is not something loud or flashy, it comes to us in a whisper, or in a feeling. The best way I could describe the feelings the Holy Ghost can bring would be to say that it is the most comforting, loving, peaceful feeling you can ever receive in this life. When I get this feeling, I know that Heavenly Father is answering my prayers and that he loves me.

The Holy Ghost is one of the greatest gifts the Lord has given us. The Holy Ghost is described in the scriptures as a still small voice and its influence is "love, joy, peace" (Galatians 5:22) and light.
At some point or another almost everyone has felt the influence of the Holy Ghost even if they do not know they have. It is powerful and it always edifies and brings us closer to God. It directs us to follow God's path of happiness. The Spirit inspires our thoughts, ideas, and actions.
It is near impossible to describe the way it feels, but once you recognize it is wonderful. The Lord can use this wonderful gift to help us "know the truth of all things." (Moroni 10:5) That doesn't mean we know everything at once, but slowly the Lord can teach us everything. He can lead us little by little back to Him through this wonderful gift.
After someone is baptized by restored priesthood authority, they are confirmed a member of the Church and that is when they are given this wonderful gift by the laying on of hands. As someone learns more about our Heavenly Father, His plan, His Son who is our Savior; the Holy Ghost can and will help them stay on a path continually leading us to the Lord. And as we come closer to the Lord we receive even greater happiness.
As we are obedient to the commandments and the promptings of the Lord through the gift of the Holy Ghost we are able to keep it with us. We can then receive all of the blessings that our loving Heavenly Father wishes to give us.

The Gift of the Holy Ghost can bless our life is so many ways. Probably the most remarkable time I can remember this blessing being manifest was after my husband died. The Holy Ghost is often referred to as "the comforter". During this very hard time in my life that role became evident as the Holy Ghost bore witness to me over and over again that my husband was not gone forever.. just gone ahead to prepare a place. The feelings of comfort and reassurance were powerful and lingering. The Holy Ghost stills comes and comforts and confirms the truth to me that "families are forever" and because of the covenants I have made with my husband and with the Lord, we will be together again.

The Holy Ghost has an influence on any person worthy of its presence. It can also influence unworthy people to guide them toward their first steps on the path to salvation. On the other hand, at some point before the Final Judgment, those of us without the Gift of the Holy Ghost will not be sanctified by its action, and purified to be able to be received by the Father into His Kingdom. The Gift of the Holy Ghost also offers its recipients not only the occasional influence, but the right of its companionship. Because it can be such a powerful guide, this gift constitutes one of the most precious God can offer us during this life.

Some people say that they have felt a burning within their bosom when the Holy Ghost testifies the truth to them. I have never felt this, however. . . .
I have felt the warmth spreading throughout my body as the Holy Ghost testifies the truth to me

Because we are in a fallen world, we cannot live in the presence of our Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ. However, we can have the companionship of the Holy Ghost, who is a member of the Godhead. When we are obedient to God's commandments, we can always have the Holy Ghost with us to guide and direct us and bring peace and happiness. The Holy Ghost is also called the Spirit, and we read in Galatians 5:22-23 that "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance." We can develop these qualities through the assistance of the Spirit; developing these qualities helps us come closer to God.
-
Jared answered…
The Holy Ghost is a member of the Godhead, and works in perfect partnership with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to help us learn and grow well in life. His influence can be felt by anybody when they live righteously, but a divine right to His constant companionship only happens when we are given the gift of the Holy Ghost.
When we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, He will "whisper" or communicate with our spirit through ideas and emotions that guide us to live righteously. He will confirm any truth we investigate and ask God about. He will comfort us when we suffer and seek God. He will clarify confusing problems when we ask God for solutions. And when we listen to His guidance, and live righteous lives, we will be rewarded with "love, joy, peace," etc (see the Holy Bible, Galatians 5:22), as well as answers to our questions.
If we choose to do unrighteous things, however, we move ourselves away from the Holy Ghost. As a result, it's harder to hear, feel, or understand His counsels. Once we repent, and apologize to God, we then move closer to Him and are able to more clearly understand His instructions and feel His approval. By paying attention to these things, we learn what is good or right, and what is evil or not right. That's why the gift of the Holy Ghost is so important following our baptism--to help us stay true and faithful on the path home to God.

I have received numerous blessings through the gift of the Holy Ghost. He is the member of the Godhead who testifies to our spirits--the truthfulness of God's teachings and doctrines. I have felt impressions, promptings, and feelings of great joy and peace when I have had the companionship of the Holy Ghost. I believe that through the power and impressions of the Spirit, all of God's children may "know the truth of all things."
Because of the impressions of the Spirit, I know that God is our Father and that Jesus is our Savior. I know that God loves us and wants to guide us during our earthly journey, so has always called prophets to lead us. In modern times, God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to the Prophet Joseph Smith and restored the Holy Priesthood and Church to the earth again. Through the power and gift of God, Joseph Smith translated The Book of Mormon, "Another Testament of Jesus Christ." It is a companion book of scripture to the Holy Bible, and contains the fulness of the everlasting gospel. (Ezekiel 37:16-17)
I am very thankful for my testimony of these sacred truths. I believe that all who study God's word and then pray to know the truth, will have it revealed to them by the power of the Holy Ghost.

A very good friend of mine once said it like this: Your life is like a road trip. The Holy Ghost is a person you can ask for directions from on your road-trip of life. Anyone can stop and ask the Holy Ghost for directions and I think everyone has heard his voice at least once in their life.
Having the Gift of the Holy is a gift from God that allows you to have the Holy Ghost as your copilot, so to speak. Instead of having to stop and ask for directions, you've got somebody in the passenger seat who knows the way perfectly. We have a promise from God that he'll be with us and help us all the time.
The Gift of the Holy Ghost is conditional though. First of all, you have to receive it by the "laying on of hands" by someone who has the Melchizedek Priesthood and is authorized to give you the gift of the Holy Ghost. Secondly, you have to listen to what the Holy Ghost tells you to do, and follow his advice; IE: keep the commandments. If you don't follow his advice, he'll leave you. That's why it's so important to live right.

Heath answered…
There are various gifts that can be given to you through the power of the Holy Ghost. Some are born with many, others not so much. However, if each individual truly desires to develop or obtain more gifts, all you have to do is work at it and continually pray for them from our Heavenly Father. As noted above, I am a convert to the Church. Hence, I did not serve a mission or learn a new language, but I have always wanted to learn a foreign language. To help with this endeavor, I prayed continually for the gift of tongues. In the course of studying Arabic, a lot of hard work and diligence was required. I have gained a testimony that through hard work, the Lord sees our sacrifice and delights in honoring those who serve him. The Lord, through the Holy Ghost, has blessed me with the ability to speak Arabic and love for language learning, but it still requires diligence and practice. You must act in obtaining that which you desire, for the Lord requires us to work at it and through our sacrifice the Lord honors our request. So take any gift you wish to cultivate in your own life, pray for it, then act in all diligence to obtain it. The Lord will see you through on any endeavor you wish to apply yourself.

My favorite scripture to describe the role of the Holy Ghost is in John 1426-27. It reads, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
Dissect this scripture. What does the Holy Ghost do? What blessings to we receive?
1 The Holy Ghost is a Comforter. Just like that comforter on your bed that keeps you cozy and warm, the Holy Ghost comforts you in times of need, in times of loneliness, and in times of anxiety and disappointment.
2 The Holy Ghost is sent in the name of Heavenly Father.
3 The Holy Ghost can teach you all things. This has certainly been a huge help to me in law school.
4 The Holy Ghost can bring all things to your remembrance. Once again, an enormous blessing in my life considering how forgetful I am.
5 The Holy Ghost gives a peace that only the Lord can promise. The world cannot offer the same type of peace.
6 When the Holy Ghost is with us, we have no reason to be afraid or troubled.
Through the Holy Ghost, you can know whether this is Christ's Church on the earth today. You can have that peace and assurance in your life. Heavenly Father will allow the Holy Ghost to teach you all things and offer true peace.

With how often God blesses me, and how often I can see His hand in things, I'd say I'm really used to 'feeling the spirit.' I mean, it's like an every day thing for me, so to me, it's not really that remarkable. It's pretty darn obvious, to me. But, for the folks that haven't learned to see miracles everywhere, the Holy Ghost is just waiting.
See, everybody has good days and bad days. In fact, for me? I feel like I tend to have more than my fair share of bad days. Or, at least less than my fair share of good days. I gotta struggle a lot just to tread water. But, thanks to my frequent and fervent experiences with the Holy Ghost, I know God's still looking out for me. And I know that, even at its worse, it wouldn't be that good without God. I've learned to see where He scoops me out of the muck on a regular basis. And when you get in tight with the Holy Ghost like that? You stop worrying. You stop being afraid. Because you know, and I mean really KNOW, not just believe and not just hope, you /know/ that God is gonna get you through it. Even in the times where I've come close to the edge, I knew that God had the reigns. Doesn't always mean it's gonna turn out how you want it to. But I know that no matter how it turns out, God knows what he's doing. And I know that thanks to the Holy Ghost in my life.

The Holy Ghost is one of the most effective ways that God can speak to us. When we open ourselves up and honestly search for answers the Holy Ghost leads us. In order to have the Holy Ghost with us always, or in other words the gift of the Holy Ghost we must receive it through baptism and confirmation by those who have the authority given them from God, then we must live our life righteously. Ultimately, the Holy Ghost can cleanse and change our hearts so that we become like Jesus Christ. We feel more love, humility, happiness, and compassion. I know that The Holy Ghost is a real power in my life. I can feel it leading me closer to Christ.

The Holy Ghost can bless your life in many ways. Christ promised His Apostles that the Holy Ghost would “teach you all things” (John 14:26) and “guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). He also said that the Holy Ghost “shall testify of me” (John 15:26).
It was through the Holy Ghost that I received testimony as to the truthfulness of this Chruch and the teachings of Jesus Christ. I know that Jesus lives and loves me. That he took upon himself my sins and the sins of the world.
Upon receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost I enjoy its constant companionship. It is not taken for granted by me or other members of the Church and we count it as one of the greatest blessing we received from our Heavenly Father and positive proof that he is mindful of each of us and loves us.
Through the gift of the Holy Ghost we receive many great and wonderful spiritual and temporal blessings. The peace and joy that comes from this gift are difficult to communicate to those who have never had it, but it is something that I can't imagine living without.
As I did not receive this gift until I was 29 years old, I can look back and reflect on the positive changes this gift brought into my life, my spirit, my decisions, and my outlook.
I know that my Heavenly Father loves me and sent his son as an example and Savior for me and you. We are God's children and he wants to help us and guide us.

Through the witness of the Holy Ghost, we "can know the truth of all things" (Moroni 10:5). We gain a testimony that God our Heavenly Father lives and loves us, that Jesus Christ is our Savior, that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's Church restored to the earth, and that modern prophets guide us today. We receive knowledge and wisdom beyond our own understanding to help us understand the things of God, comfort and strength in time of trials, and inspiration to aid us in our day-to-day responsibility as parents, students, employees, and citizens in our communities.

We can receive guidance. Today I prayed to be worthy to have the Holy Ghost, recognize it's promptings, and do what it said. After that I was at the bathroom sink, and I had a feeling about a book store that sells our church books. I wondered why I thought about it, and prayed what to do. I thought about going down to the store, but went on the website. I remembered it was my sister's birthday in three days and was trying to pick out something. I couldn't decide. Then all of a sudden my phone rang, and it was my sister! She wanted to visit on Skype. She talked, and talked, and then got very excited about some music that she and her husband were writing. It was my answer. When we were done I went back to the website, and found a Cd perfectly suited to her. It was a peaceful feeling and great help to me. I know God helps us through the Holy Ghost.

If we are living worthy the Holy Ghost can literally guide us in all things. In our thoughts, words, actions, emotions, relationships with others. If we give our lives to God, what He gives us back is far more wonderful than anything we could have imagined ourselves. The Holy Ghost is the means by which He communicates to us and helps us to feel His divine and abiding love. It is the most amazing gift we can be given, because we can receive all things we need and a lot of what we want through the guidance of the Holy Ghost.

The Gift of the Holy Ghost is the most important gift in my life. Daily I rely on the Holy Ghost to help direct my life. It helps me know what I need to do. I can have promptings to help others. It can provide comfort and peace during sadness or difficult times. The Holy Ghost helps me know when things I learn are true. Once in the late summer when all my children were back in school, I was just home with my youngest child. I had put her in front of a television show and explained I was going to get ready and then we would go out to do errands. I got into the shower just moments later a voice came into my head asking where my daughter was. I ignored it and went on. Seconds later the same thing. I got out and called my daughters name. I ran downstairs and could hear the dog barking outside. I saw my laundry room door open. I ran into garage to hear a muffled cry. I found my daughter in her car seat with the doors to the car all shut and temperatures outside well above 100 degrees. She was sweaty and red faced. I quickly took her inside and gave her a drink and cooled her down. I am so grateful I listened to that prompting from the Holy Ghost that day.

We can have a constant companion who is given to all after they enter the waters of baptism. Having the companionship of the Holy Ghost, he can give us comfort in times of sorrow, lead us in the path of righteousness, and give us direction and knowledge of what our Father in Heaven wants us to know. We can have this companion with us allways as long as we keep ourselves worthy to have him.

My sister and I are best friends. We did everything together and shared everything. We were hardly separated, except when I went to Utah to serve a mission. When I got home I was happy to be reunited with her again. Three months after I got home I was helping her pack her car to go to a summer music camp for a month. We hugged good-bye and I recieved a thought that that would be the last time that I would see her again in this life. I kind of dismissed the thought. She made it to the camp safely. During that time of her absence my mind went back to the thought I had as I was hugging her good-bye. Tears welled up in my eyes as I thought about losing my sister and best friend.
One night I was talking to my dad and expressed to him how hard it would be if I lost her and we both cried together. Then on another occasion I was talking to my friend about losing her and we too cried together. One night I was talking to my sister on the phone and told her that out of all six of us kids that she would be the first to go because she was too perfect to be here on the earth.
Finally the day arrived for her to come home. It was late and she decided to start home right after the concert was over. We decided that it would be best that I talk to her on the phone until she reached her hotel for the night. As we were on the phone something happened and the phone went dead. I knew that she had been taken home. I received confirmation from the spirit and knew that the Lord had called her home.

As a mother, I depend on the Holy Ghost so much. With lots of small children and a busy schedule, I find myself getting caught up in the day to day business of the world...housekeeping, school functions, discipline, etc. Sometimes I go to bed feeling like I just yelled at my kids all day. Other days, I feel like it was a really good day. Either way, I strive to maintain a loving spirit in my home as much as possible. I NEED IT! Through prayer, the Holy Ghost has inspired so many of life's decisions. From where to send my kids to school, to whether or not we should make a large purchase, to knowing what to do to help my child. I feel at peace when I receive answers to life's questions. In one instance, my husband and I had wondered if we should sell our family business for him to take up an offer for an office job. After talking about it and weighing our options, we decided that keeping the business was the best decision. I was adamantly against selling the business from the beginning. Like many decisions, we decided to take it to the Lord to confirm that it was the right decision for us. As my husband and I sat together in the La'ie, Hawai'i temple, I felt a strong change of heart. My husband looked at me and I said, "I don't think you should rule it (the new job) out." And for the first time, not only did I feel a peace inside me about selling the business, but I was excited for this new opportunity. We went for it. Because of the new job, we were able to take advantage of so many opportunities that we would not have had if we had kept the business. In addition, my husband went through a period of medical issues that required him to take it easy and travel to the mainland. He had just started the new job and we had already trained someone to run the business until we could have it sold. If we had not hired another person in preparation for selling the business, we would have lost a good portion of our business because my husband would not have been able to run it.
Had we not taken this decision to the Lord, the Holy Ghost would not have revealed to us that what we should do. The peace that we felt in the temple that day gave me the assurance that during the transition, everything would be okay. I was at peace. I was also able to support my husband 100% because I knew that the we were following the Lord's will for us. Because of that decision, my husband has been able to take advantage of many opportunities and we have been able to reach many of our family goals more quickly.

The blessing I receive through the Holy Ghost most often is the blessing of direction. Often I'll be thinking about a problem or something I want to work out. I of course try and come up with answers or solutions on my own. Sometimes the Holy Ghost confirms to me through thoughts or feelings that those answers or solutions that I think of on my own are right. Other times I'll receiving direction from the Holy Ghost that I should do something else.
Listening to the Holy Ghost and following its guidance doesn't mean we don't think for ourselves. I have a testimony of the truth that if we start down a course, seeking to do what's right and best, the Holy Ghost will always let us know whether that course is right or if we need to change direction.
Another blessing I cherish that I receive through the Holy Ghost is the blessing of receiving peace and comfort. If I'm scared or stressed, I can pray for help and strength and then receive it. The pain or the problem doesn't always go away. The answer I need doesn't always come right when I want it to. But the strength to get through it will come. And if I have faith that things will work out if I do what the Lord wants me to do and follow His plan, peace will come too.

Being a member of the church all of my life, I don't know a life without the Holy Ghost. But I do know there are times when I have not been as receptive to the Spirit as other times. I feel the Holy Ghost prompts me all the time, more than I give Him credit. A few years ago I decided to make a change to my response to those promptiings. Many times before I would procrastinate and put off the feelings I had. I decided I needed to act promptly on any feeling or prompting I had. What a difference that made. I realized that promptings were given to me for a purpose. I was blessed in ways to help my children, make my life more efficient, avoid problems, accept and know how to deal with challenges, handle relationships more lovingly, and fulfill my church callings as the Lord would want me to.

I agree with the Church doctrines about the many benefits of the Holy Ghost: the ability to know the truth of all things (inasmuch as we're willing to hear it), having a "direct conduit" with God--more than simple prayer without it provides, and so forth.
In addition, as a convert, I learned early on that there is a distinctly "feel" to the universe with the Holy Ghost, as opposed to without it. It's like every empty space between you and the people and objects around you are suddenly filled with a sort of peaceful connectedness. No longer is one "cut-off" from being connected to every other person and thing, but is somehow, profoundly, "at one" with it all. It's hard to explain to those who have grown-up in the Church, but every convert I've mentioned this to (i.e. quite a few) has understood what I'm saying. I encourage those of you who wish to feel this connectedness to investigate the Church by way of its missionaries, and ask God--yourself, not by means of a pastor or any other person--whether this Church is the true and living Church of God/Christ. When you do this with the intention to know and act on that knowledge appropriately, then you'll be ready to be baptized and receive this great and magnificent gift of the Holy Ghost; but these steps should only be taken when you're ready to believe and act; otherwise, the Spirit will leave you, and you'll be all the lonelier for knowing the difference.

There are many blessings that come from receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. When we remain worthy, we are promised to the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. This is a powerful gift because without the Holy Ghost, we would not know the truth of the Gospel. The gift is also a blessing because the Spirit will be felt more abundantly in our lives once we have received it. We must remain worthy to always have the Spirit with us, and by so doing, we receive blessings showered upon us from above. Heavenly Father has offered us this precious gift to help us when we need guidance. He has given us this gift so that we may better follow His will, and know how important it is to stay worthy of the gift. As we live our lives from day to day, we are reassured by receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. It is the best gift that Heavenly Father offers His children. All we have to do is have faith in Jesus Christ and be baptized by someone holding the priesthood authority of God, then we receive it by the laying on of hands on the head.

I am so thankful for the third member of the Godhead, the Holy Ghost. I can't imagine life without its influence in my life, especially as a mother trying to raise good kids--and especially as an often scatterbrained girl who regularly loses her keys! I can't tell you how often I've prayed for help as I search for this or that, and always, after I pray for guidance in finding my missing things, the Lord speaks to me through the Holy Ghost, and prompts me where to look! He truly cares and is involved in the details of our lives, and most people have felt the influence of the Holy Ghost at some point as truth is revealed to them or temporary comfort is given. But to qualify for the gift of the Holy Ghost (by being baptized and confirmed into the Church) is quite the blessing because then, if you keep the commandments, the Holy Ghost can always be with you!
