What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

God is perfect, all wise, and all-powerful; the ruler of the universe. He is also merciful, kind, and just. He is our Father in Heaven. We are created in His image (Genesis 1:27). He has a body that looks like ours, but God’s body is immortal, perfected, and has a glory that words can’t describe. Because we are His children, He knows and loves each of us individually. He has a plan to help His children find joy in this life and return to live with Him when this life is over.

Kathleen answered…

This question is easily answered in the words of one of the children's songs "I know my [Heavenly] Father lives, and loves me too". We believe in a loving God, who knows us each individually. Another way I know that God loves me because he has heard and answered my prayers many times. Some people think that God is angry, but I do not believe that is so. Matthew 7:11 reads, "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to those that ask him?" I think that just explains it all- as parents we want the best for our children. God, our Heavenly parent, wants the best for us, too. As parents, we recognize that giving our children everything they ask for isn't necessarily what's best for them. God does this for us also.

Tony Lundberg answered…

God, our Heavenly Father, is a personal God. He is the Father of every person on the earth. He loves each of his daughters and sons. As a Father he takes interest in each of his chidren. His children communicate with him though prayer.

Leh answered…

I truly believe that God, who is our heavenly father and we are His children, loves us unconditionally and wants more than anything for us to be happy and succeed in this life. He knows that we are far from perfect and therefore has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us, so sin and death can be overcome, which we cannot overcome ourselves. When we pray to God in faith, we go talk with Him about our days, share with Him our joy, hope, and pain. And when we make mistakes or sin, we can have the courage to ask Him for forgiveness and not sin again. He hears, listens, and knows what we need, even before we say anything. He will bless us, comfort us, and provide for our needs when He knows it is the right time. We just have to be patient and humble. We talk and walk with Him like we do with our earthly father.

Garrett Holsonbake answered…

God is the Father of all humans. He created our spirits first, then our physical bodies. Before we were beings on Earth, Each one of us as spiritual beings lived in the presence of our Father in Heaven. (God) God is eternal and is constant. He is the same today, as he was thousands of years ago, as he will continue to be in the future. He is loving and understanding. He will NEVER forsake us, and will always be there when we need him. Although sometimes we might not feel like he loves us, or is there for us, just always remember HE IS! He is a VERY just and merciful God. He wants all of his sons and daughters (all mankind) to return to live with Him once again.

Jason Christopher answered…

We believe that God is our Father in Heaven. We believe that He knows each one of us personally and He loves us. As a parent who loves their children, so does our Father in Heaven because we are his children. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to live on this earth to teach us the way to return home to Him. Through His Son Jesus Christ's perfect obedience and innocence, our Father gave us the perfect example of how to live. Jesus Christ offered to take upon himself all the responsibility and suffering for all of our wrongdoing which keeps us from returning home to our Heavenly Father. God, our Father, loves us so much that he allowed His perfectly obedient son Jesus Christ to suffer and die for our sake. Jesus Christ overcame death and fulfilled His Father's plan to allow us to return to be with Him if we have faith in Jesus Christ and strive to live by his example.

Kristi answered…

We believe that God is the Father of our spirits and that he has a body. As the Bible teaches us, we believe that we are created in his image. Of course, unlike him, we are just mortal and very imperfect but I think that there are Godly attributes in each person. If we look at others and try to love them unconditionally like Heavenly Father loves us then every once in a while we will catch a glimpse of something special in each and every child of God.

Savannah answered…

We believe that God is our Heavenly Father. He has a body of flesh and bones. He loves us and cares for us like a father would. He wants only the best for us. We can pray to Him and He will be there to listen and help us with our trials. He will lift us and carry us through our hard times. He is there reaching for us we just need to reach back and take his hand to lean on.

I know that as I have learned that I am His daughter, a daughter of a king, I can do great things if I will only try and if I need His help He will be right there beside me helping me to achieve my greatest goals.

Jered answered…

God is a very loving God. He is the source of truth and light. We are nothing compare to him. but we are everything to him. He has a perfect immortal body. And he wants us to be happy forever. But he wants us to endure trials and problems first. you wont know bitter if you dont know sweet. and also, it wont be so successful if others did it for us. he wants us to learn and improve the quality of our life. He is perfect and kind and he is not the author of confusion.

Domingo answered…

Our earthly father will do everything to make his children live happily, how much more He - our Heavenly Father. His love is beyond measure, even seeing His only begotten Son , Jesus Christ suffer that all of His children may be saved and be partakers of eternal joy, even living with him and be like them.

Mary answered…

That God, the Father is perfect and all-knowing. He created in his own image every human being who has and will live on this earth and knows each of us individually. We are his spirit children.

Michael answered…

We believe God to be our loving Father. He knows us each individually, and loves beyond our comprehension, for he created us in His own image. We believe He has a tangible, physical body that is perfect and immortal. He wants the absolute best for each and every one of us; His children.

Glen James Hamblin answered…

Quite simply, he is our Father. Think of an ideal father, that is God.

Sara answered…

Trying to define what Mormons believe about any particular thing is tricky, because there's diversity in our personal experiences and testimonies. The only thing I can speak on with full confidence is what I believe about the nature of God, what I have learned in my life as a Mormon. When I hear the word "God," I think of it as a title, one that most often refers to our Heavenly Father. I think of him as a perfect being, a divine parent with a body and with a personal relationship to all his children. I think of someone powerful, kind, wise, and incredibly loving. "God," as a title, can also refer to Jesus Christ, our Savior. Mormon doctrine teaches that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are two separate people, that Jesus is Heavenly Father's son, but that they are alike in power, intellect, love, and glory. Finally, I've found it important in recent years to think of how the title "God" is also appropriate for our Heavenly Mother. I think of Heavenly Mother as someone powerful, kind, wise, and incredibly loving, a perfect being and example to me. In 1910, a leader of the church named Elder Rudger Clawson wrote, "It doesn't take from our worship of the Eternal Father, to adore our Eternal Mother, any more than it diminishes the love we bear our earthly fathers, to include our earthly mothers in our affections ... we honor woman when we acknowledge Godhood in her eternal prototype." Whatever name or title we prefer, a timeless definition comes from a Mormon hymn: God is love.

Karen N. answered…

While we don't believe in the Holy Trinity that I did when I grew up a Protestant Christian (Lutheran), we do believe that God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are all members of the Godhead--three separate and distinct beings that are one in purpose. If we are created in our Heavenly Father's image, as we are told in the Holy Bible that we are, and the Trinity were true, we don't reflect as humans that conglomerate. Rather, we are spiritual beings with earthly or temporal bodies. In the instance of the baptism of Jesus Christ, His Heavenly Father spoke from the heavens, and The Holy Ghost descended in the form of a dove. There would have been no need, had the Trinity as defined by many churches existed. I am grateful to know of the distinct roles of the three beings and how perfect their harmony is with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That I have a Heavenly Father and that I have his perfect son, Jesus Christ as my mediator and who suffered and died that not only he, but we, can live eternally. And that I have the spirit and the promptings of the Holy Ghost to guide and comfort me in my life on behalf of the Father and the Son.

Susanna answered…

We believe and know that God created all things. We know that God loves us and not because we are so loveable, but because His nature is love.

Paul answered…

They believe that Heavenly Father is a loving and exalted man, the Father of our Spirits and the one to whom we worship and pray to often. That he has a plan for us to follow and we need to align our will to his. We can do this by first following the example of his Son (also a God) Jesus Christ and second listening to the Holy Ghost (also a God and third member of the God Head) who the Father has sent that we might not be left alone. Through proper active Faith, constant repentance and abstinence of sin, baptism by water and fire (with the proper authority), we can be like him and gain all that he has to offer.

Kerry answered…

We believe God is our father, a glorified all knowing and caring being who has a body like ours, but is perfect and glorified in every respect. I have come to understand his nature through experiences I've had with my earthly father, who I love very much. The relationship and love I have nurtured over many years with my earthly father are similar in many respects to the relationship I can have with my Heavenly Father.

Like my earthly father, God is kind, loving, understanding and patient. Unlike my earthly father, Heavenly Father is perfect and all knowing. He wants me to return and live with him when my life on this earth is over.

Because I have come to understand his nature to be similar in some respects to that of my earthly father, I have come to know Him better as I've learned to share my life with him. As I understand His love better through answered prayers and searching, I have been lead to be a better father to my own children. Therefore, coming to understand God's nature has helped me find greater joy in my efforts as a father.

I talk with Heavenly Father morning and night by sharing events of my day with Him in prayer. I share with Him important questions and concerns of my life. I feel of His great love when answers to prayer come...for it reinforces his existence, his awareness of me individually, and gradually has changed my nature and influence with my family and friends to be more like him.

Knowing His nature has brought me great joy!

Daniel answered…

He is our loving Father. He is literally our Heavenly Father with a body of skin and bones. He wants us to be happy and successful just like our Father here on Earth does. He loves us unconditionally. We pray to Him in the name of His son, Jesus Christ. No One or no thing could compare to Him.

Denise answered…

I have always viewed God as my eternal (as in forever and ever) Father in Heaven, just as real to me as my father on earth. He loves me with a perfect and unconditional love and has given all of his children agency to choose how they live their lives. He rules the universe, but even He will not take away our agency, because it is this agency that allows us to refine our natures and character. He has a body, immortal and perfect and a plan for each of His children to have joy in this life and return to Him through the Atonement of our Savior, His son, when this life is done. The nature of God is pure love, for us and for all his creations.

Dean answered…

God to many Christians is the Trinity - three in one, and one in three. Mormons do not believe in that, which stands as perhaps the most significant difference between that faith and other Christian denominations. We believe that God the Father - Heavenly Father - has a physical body and loves us so much because he is literally the father of our spirits. We believe that Jesus Christ is His only begotten son in the flesh and that Christ's atonement allows us all to overcome sin and death. We believe that the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit and as such is able to bear witness to one and all of the truths taught by Heavenly Father, his son Jesus Christ, and their servants, the prophets.

Clayton answered…

We believe that God is our eternal Father in Heaven. That He has a perfected and glorifeied body of flesh and bone. That He loves all His children and desires that We can be with Him again. We believe that God is perfect in everyway. He knows and understans all. He is just, true, loving, and merciful. We believe He is our father and We are His children.

Matt answered…

God is our Heavenly Father; He is literally the Father of our Spirits (Hebrews 12:9). He possesses a perfect immortal body of flesh and bones (D&C 130:22). He is unchanging; a perfect constant in the midst of a changing world (2Nephi 27:23).

God operates in perfect harmony with Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. Collectively they constitute what is known as the Godhead. The Father, Son and Holy Ghost are three distinct personages and perform different roles; however, they are so unified in purpose that their names are sometimes used interchangeably. This type of unity is the gold standard that we are supposed to emulate as disciples of Christ, as were Jesus’ apostles (John 17:21-23).

God is righteous. All things that are good come from God (Alma 5:40). He is the antithesis of evil, and cannot tempt men (although He does permit Satan to tempt us) (James 1:13), or lie (Hebrews 6:18, Enos 1:6). As our Father, He loves us, offers us mercy and is patient with us in our shortcomings (1 John 4:8,16, Mosiah 28:4, Alma 9:26).

The most all-encompassing way to describe God is to say that he is perfect (Matthew 5:48 (see also 3 Nephi 12:48), Alma 42:15). He is perfect in every conceivable way. He is all-knowing (2 Nephi 9:20), all-wise (Jacob 4:10), all-powerful (Genesis 18:14, Luke 1:37, Matthew 19:26, Mosiah 4:9). Because He is a righteous God, He will not abuse this power.

Finally, God is personable. Of all of His traits and characteristics, this is among the most important to me. He knows me personally. I am invited to know Him, as are all of His children. God’s work and glory is “to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man” (Moses 1:39). As such, He wants what is best for us. He is ready and eager to use His power on our behalf. He hears our prayers and answers them (James 1:5, Hebrews 11:6), although maybe not always how we want them to be answered. We must remember that He possesses infinite wisdom. We know that the manner in which He chooses to intervene in our lives will always be in our best interest.

Although I have tried to portray the character of the One True God, I cannot hope to capture His full majesty in words. The fullness God’s greatness cannot be comprehended by mortal man (Job 36:26), but we can still come to know of His goodness and love for us as we seek diligently for Him (D&C 88:63).

Kathleen answered…

We believe that we are created in the image of God. We beleive that God has a body that is glorified. We believe that God is eternal, as are we. We believe that He is loving, kind, compassionate. He allowed us to experience growth with physical bodies as part of our eternal progression. We believe that God is the Father of Jesus Christ and they are separate and distinct beings.

Elder Vincent Johnson answered…

God is my Loving Father Heaven, he created me and my friends and Family. He knows me, loves me, watches me, wants whats best for me, and wishes for me to return to him in Heaven, So he sent his Beloved son, our savior Jesus Christ.

Aaron Speer answered…

God is our Heavenly Father. And as a father He loves each and everyone of us as individuals. We are created in His image as it says in Genesis. Heavenly Father is the perfect father, wise and powerful but still full of patience, kindness, mercy, and love. He wants to see all of His chilren return to live with Him and to grow to our potential. That is why He has created the plan of salvation for all of us to follow on our journey through life.

Daniel answered…

I believe that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are separate beings that are united in purpose. God is the father of our spirits. He loves us and wants us to choose to return to live with Him. Jesus Christ is Heavenly Father's Son. Jesus created the world, was resurrected, is perfect, and is the only way that humanity can receive salvation from death and sin.

Clay answered…

Of all the titles He carries, the grandest and most accurate is that of Father. Like any good father, He loves, teaches, admonishes, and even chastises his children when it is in their best interest. He watches over them, guides them, joys in their successes, weeps at their failures and their pain. Perhaps most importantly, He knows each of them, individually, and knows what each of them needs, even better than they know it themselves.

Hannah answered…

We believe in a loving Heavenly Father who wants us to be happy and successful and knows ways that we can receive that happiness. One of His greatest expressions of His love was sending his Son Jesus Christ to save the world from their mistakes or sins so that we can one day return to live with our Father in Heaven again in His presence. One of the other multiple ways that our Father in Heaven shows His love towards us is by giving us commandments that we may live by and follow. Many might think that God's laws are just a form of control, when actually it's not the case at all. We believe that Heavenly Father has given us commandments for our own benefit, just like laws of driving a car is not to inhibit a driver's freedom but to insure safety of the driver and society, so it is with obeying God's commandments and the nature of God.

Devin answered…

LDS or Mormon doctrine of "who God is" was a big part of what led me to accept the LDS faith for myself. Growing up I imagined God as someone I could never understand. Because of this, I felt unworthy of His love and chose to occupy my mind with other things. Learning better who God was made all the difference for me.
Mormons believe God is our Father in Heaven. So literally he is the Father of our souls, under the belief that we lived before this life as Spiritual children of Him. We were created in His image Genesis 127. Therefore has a body that looks like ours, but God’s body is immortal and perfected. Being without these bodies, we decided to come down to the earth and receive bodies ones created in His image. He can't live with us and make our decisions for the same reasons that children must inevitably leave home and live their own lives. This preference for us to choose for ourselves is often times inefficient in the same way democracy/capitalism can be inefficient. However, through this freedom, His children can learn and grow and progress so that they can become more like Him. Although we can't always see Him, He is always available to be consulted with through prayer. Joseph Smith taught emphatically that man can and must converse with God as simply as one man converses with another. Through prayer God has helped me through many tough and lonely times. He has been reliable and understanding of me even when I have been proud and doubtful of Him.

Brad answered…

(KJV) The Bible, Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:

Mormons believe what every Christian reads in the Bible, but fails to remember for some reason; that we were created in the image of God. He is literally the father of our spirits and Jesus Christ is His only begotten son in the flesh, sent to earth to atone for our sins, suffer, die and resurrect to overcome death so we could return to our Father.

Damon answered…

We believe that God is our Father. He lives, and has a body similar to ours, for He formed man in His own image (Genesis 1:26-27). He is perfect and knows all things. Yet despite His great power and knowledge, He loves His children greatly and desires their happiness. He called prophets and taught them so they could teach us. We have the sacred writings of ancient prophets in the Holy Scriptures. This is God's word, and it is there for us to read, study, and believe in.

Just as He did in old times, we believe God has called a prophet and apostles today to continue to reveal His will to His children. He is not silent, and He does not sleep. He hears our prayers and has provided a way for us to return to live with him. This plan for our return is so important that He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to come to the earth and show us how to live, and sacrifice His own life for us (John 3:16). Yet, He allows all men the freedom to choose how they will live their lives. It is up to us to choose to follow our Savior Jesus Christ, and keep His commandments so we can return and live with Him again.

Daniel answered…

We believe that God is our literal Father in Heaven, and that he wants all his children (us) to return to him to partake of eternal life. We also believe that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are 3 seperate and distingt beings and together they are the God Head, and are united in one purpose.

Mark answered…

We believe that God is the father of our spirits (Heb.12:9). We believe we have a mother of our spirits. They love us dearly. They want us to become like them. Mortal life on earth is an essential part of this process.

Our spirit parents are glorified and perfected beings, with resplendent bodies of flesh and bone enlivened by glorious inner spirits. They possess every positive virtue in fullness. Love drives all that They do. We were created in Their image. Through the resurrection (after death), through the sanctifying influence of the Holy Ghost, and through the Savior's sacrifice for our sins, we believe our Parents, can make us like themselves, after our mortal lives are finished. We don't know how this miraculous transformation occurs. But, we trust in the Lord's promise in 1 John 3:2: "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is."

Br Gary answered…

As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, when we refer to God we usually are referring to the God head. There is ONE GOD in purpose and unity but we DO believe that God or the God head are 3 distinct individuals...God the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost. Some refer to the God head by the term THE TRINITY but they may or may not necessarily accept that there is ONE GOD but 3 separate individuals.

The Bible clearly makes references to the fact that this IS the true nature of God. One great example that comes to mind...when Jesus was being crucified, as He was on the cross dying He called upon Heavenly Father in prayer asking "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." There are other examples in the Scriptures that testify of the true nature of God.

I believe that a simple way to better describe this is to use the analogy of a sports team. Because I live in South Carolina, I am going to use the NFL's Carolina Panthers football team as an example. When a person refers to the Carolina Panthers, they are referring to ONE TEAM. Obviously, there is more than 1 person who makes up this team. Each member of the team has an important role and the team would be incomplete without each important team member. Likewise, the nature of God COULD BE described in very basic terms as A TEAM.

We worship God the Father and come unto Him through our Savior Jesus Christ and we are only able to do so when the Holy Ghost has bore witness unto us that the Gospel of Jesus Christ IS true.

Eric Greene answered…

We believe that there is a God. He is our literal Father, and that He has a body of Flesh and Bones, like us; except His is perfect and glorious beyond description. He is perfect in his knowledge, and is all-powerful. He is loving, just, merciful, patient, and concerned with every individual on earth. He knows us all by name.

Gary answered…

The LDS church believes that God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ are separate and distinct individuals with glorified ressurected bodies. The Holy Ghost is a spirit being that testifies to our hearts of spitual truths.

Jonathan answered…

We believe, as Jesus Christ taught, that God is our loving Heavenly Father. He knows each one of us, our interests, our struggles, our joys, and our worries. He cares for us as a loving parent with our best interest. Because He loves us, He guides us through the scriptures like the Bible so that we can know why we're here, where we came from before this life, and where we will go after this life.

Kristen answered…

We believe in the Godhead. Three separate beings who have one purpose: our eternal welfare. God the Father is our Heavenly Father. He is the father of our spirits and he loves us. He has a body that looks like ours. We were made in his image. Jesus Christ is our Savior, he is our eldest brother. He also has a body. The third member is the Holy Ghost, a personage of spirit.

Cameron answered…

We as members of the church veiw god as our eternal father, for he is the father of our spirits. We know that He loves all his children and wants them to return to live in his presents. For this reason he gave us the gosple.

Karyn answered…

He is our father, and if He were here He would embrace us and love us as only a perfect father could. He wants us to believe in ourselves, to know we are a choice spirit, His true son or daughter, and that we ourselves have potential to someday become like Him.

Bryan answered…

We believe that God is our father and that he loves us. We believe that we are made in his image. We believe that God is the chief member of the godhead, which consists of God our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. We believe that they are all separate, individual beings who are united in purpose. We also believe that God has a glorified body of flesh and bone. We believe that as his children we have the ability to become as he is. His work and his glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

Laurie answered…

We believe that God is our Heavenly Father. We are his spiritual offspring. He loves us and is intimately interested and involved in our lives. We pray to Him in the name of His Son Jesus Christ. It is like talking to a loving father. I love Him and trust Him. He has given us commandments to keep us safe and happy and loves to bless us!

Bracken answered…

This is where Mormons differ from a lot of other Christian faiths. We believe that God the Father and Jesus Christ are distinct and separate beings who have perfected physical bodies of flesh and bone. God created the earth and everything (and everyone) on it; He knows and loves each of us individually.

Todd answered…

God is our Heavenly Father. He is a literal Father of our spirits. He has a tangible body of flesh and bones, but in a perfect state. His whole purpose is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

Cary answered…

Mormons believe that the most salient fact about God's nature is that He has given us the term "Heavenly Father" to apply to Him. He's all-wise, all-powerful, and all-knowing. He's flawless. And He's our eternal "Dad". He wants us to know that our potential is to become like Him, to inherit all He has, and that therefore we are each brothers and sisters of infinite worth to Him, and to ourselves oh, if we only all understood that simple fact!. He is perfectly good, perfectly just, and perfectly merciful, because perfectly loving. It is His perfection that His Son, Jesus Christ, modeled for us while He was on the earth, and it is this model that we should all be working towards, as impossible as it may be in this lifetime to approach. Mormons also believe that the nature of God is that He is a spirit clothed in flesh like all of us are, but that His flesh is of an immortal nature such as is promised to all of us after the Resurrection. Thus, the purpose of this life is to gain a body like His, except with mortality built in so that the time between birth and death becomes a test period for us to prove to what degree we will take what talents, abilities, challenges, and temptations we're given and deal with them to become like Him, accepting the atonement of His Son to make up for where we fall short which we all do, inevitably.

Jeremiah answered…

We believe that God is literally the Father of our spirit and that he is a resurrected, immortal man who governs heaven and earth. God is all powerful but he is also merciful and kind. We believe that it is possible to have an individual relationship with God as our Father because we are His children.

Nephi Nielsen answered…

God is our loving Heavenly Father. He loves us enough to help us become more like Him. He created a perfect plan to fulfill His eternal purposes. He wants to bless us and help us become more. With an amazing amount of Love God offered His Son, Jesus Christ to be our Savior. Jesus Christ suffered and died for us so that we might come to this world to be proved that we could be just men. He rose again so that we could leave this world with a hope that we will live again and that we will be with God. He loves us.

David answered…

God Is the same Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. We believe that he loves his children as much now as he did in the old testiment. we belive because of that love, he gives revelation to a modern prophet.

Hans answered…

God is our loving Heavenly Father, the literal father of all the spirits of mankind. As such, we are created in His image, and He has a body that is much like ours, except that it is immortal and incorruptible. He is perfect in every way, and the supreme ruler of the universe, but He is kind to us, and wants us to become as He is. We can speak to Him personally in the name of Jesus Christ, and He can speak to us through the Holy Ghost. He has an infinite capacity of thought, perception, and love, and can thus love all of His children infinitely.

Everything that He created and instituted - the Earth, the living things on the Earth, the Church, the Atonement, our families - is for our benefit. Even the terrible things that happen to us are for our benefit, because God knows that the best and only way to learn and grow is through challenge and trial.

Kevin answered…

LDS believe in a Godhead containing 3 members. At the head is God the Father who is our heavenly Father, and the Father or our spirits. He has a body of flesh and bone. He loves all his children in every part of the world, and in every time of the world--and desires our eternal happiness and joy. His Son, -Jesus Christ- is like him in every way.

Jesus Christ is the creator of the heavens and the earth, and is the one who volunteered as our Savior and Redeemer to fulfill the Father's Plan for the redemption of mankind.

The Holy Ghost -- or Holy Spirit -- is the 3rd member in the Godhead. He does not have a physical body but is a Spirit person with the ability to dwell with us. The Holy Ghost can speak to our spirit and influence us for good, but he does not compel us.

The members of the Godhead are harmonious and united, in their purpose and work. They work as one council in unified agreement and oneness toward bringing to pass the immortality and eternal life of man, which is their great work of love.

Patrick answered…

God is our Father in every since of the word. He created us in His image because he loves us. He is all powerful BECAUSE of his enfanent wisdom not the other way around. His body (yes he has one too) is perfect and it is it is what we strive to be worthy of. Some day he hopes we will all come to live with him. He loves us, knows us, and cares about us on the deepest level.

Susan Johanson answered…

We call God our Heavenly Father, and that is who he is - our father. If God is our father, it follows that we are his children. As a child of God, I look like him - much as I look like my earthly parents. I have eyes, God has eyes. I have ears, God has ears. I have hands and feet, God has hands and feet. The scriptures tell us that we are created in his image - and we believe that is literal. We KNOW that is literal because we have the testimony of many who have seen him. The scriptures also command us to become perfect, as God is perfect. As a daughter of God, I believe that I carry seeds of deity within me - I am a princess of royal birth. It is my goal to become like my Heavenly Father. That is why I came to earth.

Angie answered…

God is perfect. His love is perfect. I love knowing that my Father in Heaven is perfect because people can be so unstable. Not because we mean to be, there are just so many distractions and emotions that we can experience that it's impossible for anyone to be perfectly stable and dependable all the time. But God never has a bad day. He's never in a bad mood. He's perfectly reliable and dependable. No matter how unstable we feel and the people that we rely on feel... we can always trust God to lead us perfectly. He is the ONLY being that we can always rely on with perfect confidence.

The other thing I absolutely love about the nature of God is His inclination for mercy. In the April 2012 General Conference for the Mormon (LDS) Church, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland said: "surely the thing God enjoys most about being God is the thrill of being merciful." I love that! I have a friend that is a Pentecostal Minister and he told me about a sermon he taught once titled: "God's Weakness." He explained to me that what he thought was God's weakness was His love and mercy for mankind. And although I don't think love and mercy are by any means a weakness (I think it takes great strength to love and forgive) I loved the image that his message put in my mind. It made me realize how natural and enjoyable it is for God to forgive us when we sincerely forsake our sins and commit to living as He would have us live. I know that God is excited when we turn to Him for help!

We believe that God is our Heavenly Father who loves us and has a great interest in our success. We believe He has a body of flesh and bones.

We believe that Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father are two separate beings. Jesus Christ is the literal Son of God the Father. He is the Savior of the world. He has a resurrected body of flesh and bones.

The Holy Ghost is also a separate being. He does not have a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit.

Mike Huffaker answered…

We believe He is a real person, a perfect person, a man who you can talk to and communicate with through prayer. He is perfectly loving, fair and merciful. He knows each one of us by name and knows everything about us. He cares about each one of his children and wants what them to be happy and joyful throughout the eternities.

Elvan answered…

God loves His Children. Whoever you are, whatever you do, whatever you look like, whatever you status economically, the color of your hair,....He just simply loves you and treat you as His princess or prince. You are precious to him because We are all His sons and daughters

Dave answered…

We believe that God has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as mans, as does Jesus, and that the Holy Ghost is a Spirit. We believe it's important to understand the true nature of God in order to become like him. Here are a few biblical examples that support our beliefs about God. Mathew 3:16-17 "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." John 20:16 "And Jesus saith unto her, touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God." Acts 7:55 "But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God..." Matthew 27:46 "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" We believe that when there is a reference to God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost being one entity, the writer is trying to express the idea that they are one in purpose. For example in John 17:21 we read: "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us..." We believe we should strive to be one in purpose with God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost.

The question of the nature of God is a big one. As a member of the restored Church of Jesus Christ this is one of the most powerful truths that was restored to earth. God, the Father, is the father of our spirits and has a body of flesh and bones. God The Son, who is Jesus Christ also has a body. They are One in purpose. They are omnipotent, which is the power to do anything. They are Love. They want us to come home to live with them. Everything they do, is done in love.

Cody answered…

We believe that He has a body of flesh and bone, and that he is the father of our spirits. He loves us and he has a plan for us so that we can live a life full of happiness with our families and loved ones.

Esa-Matti answered…

We believe that the spirits of mankind are the literal offspring of God, and that he is our Father. We believe that God has a body of flesh and bone, and that our bodies were created in his image. We believe that through the merits of Christ, God has made it possible for us to overcome the effects of sin and death, and to return back into his presence, and that like Christ, we will receive immortal resurrected bodies like our Father has. We believe that God is perfect in every way, and that he loves us. All that he does is for the benefit of his children, whom he wants to exalt with himself.

Lisa answered…

God is our literal Father.

In Genesis Moses wrote: "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." God has a body that is like ours in appearance, but perfect and glorious -- not a mortal body like we have.

God loves and prizes each one of us. Because we are His children he knows each one of us profoundly and individually. He is wise, merciful, just and all-powerful; He is the Creator of heaven and earth and our King. He is our friend and greatest champion and always stands ready to help us when we obey him and call upon His Name.

He wants us to be happy like He is, and so gives us the scriptures and the prophets to teach us how to live.

Ashley answered…

God is our Heavenly Father. He is perfect and full of love. We know He is aware of each of us individually, that He knows us by name and that He loves each and every one of us. We do not use His name in vain because we love and worship Him. We know we are created in His image-that He has a perfect body. We also know that He and our Savior Jesus Christ are two separate beings.

Jessica answered…

Mormons believe that God has a physical body and that we were created in His image. God loves all of His children and wants them to be happy. God wants all of us to come back and live with Him again. He gives us commandments so that we can learn to be like Him. We can pray to God for comfort, guidance, and peace.

Matt answered…

For me, God is a real person who somehow knows me very personally. I believe he is all powerful and all knowing but on a much more loving way than we can imagine. I also believe he has a body and we were created in his likeness. I believe he wants us to become like him and his Son Jesus Christ. This goal is one of the purposes of this life. I know it won't happen quickly or all at once, but I work towards it a little at a time.

Spencer Young answered…

He is our loving Heavenly Father, being the Father of our Spirits. He has a body; similiar to ours but His is perfect, immortal, and way more awesome than ours. Just like you love your children or you parents love you; God has a pure, unconditional love for all of us. He wants us to return to Him and be like Him. Which is why we are on the Earth. To prove ourselves worthy of His prescence.

Kurtis answered…

God is our Heavenly Father. We are literally His children, and He loves us. He has a body of flesh and bones that looks like ours, but His is perfected and immortal. God is perfect in every way, and He created a perfect plan for all of us, so that we can return to Him one day. He knows each one of us individually, and knows the best way to help us in this life. He wants everyone of us to return to Him.

Caleb answered…

We believe that God is our loving Hevenly Father and that we are his spirit children. He has a body of flesh and bone. He loves us and wants us to become like him. He sent his son, Jesus Christ to redeem all man kind. He also given us families here on earth that we may be able to learn from each other.

Rachel answered…

God not only our creator and diety- He is literally our Father in Heaven. He created us spiritually before we were created physically, and we lived with him before this life. Because of this, He knows us perfectly and individually- our weaknesses and mistakes as well as our greatest strengths and potential. He loves us and wants us to be successful in this life. Everything He does is for our benefit, to help us have a happy life and eventually return to live with Him again. We can never do anything to disqualify for His love and mercy. We can develop a personal, real relationship, just like one would with their physical parent, by communicating with Him through prayer. He hears and answers us.

Jacob answered…

God is our Father. He created us in His own image, in likeness of Him, however we do not possess the glory and perfections that he does. He loves us and wants us to be happy. He knew that in order for us to have a fullness of joy, we would have to experienced pains and sorrows. So he gave us this opportunity to come to life and to be given trials to make us stronger, and to bring us joy through our struggles. He also knew that none of us would be able to live without committing sin, or missing the mark of perfection, and that in doing so, we would distance ourselves from Him and be unable to dwell in His presence again. So He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to suffer for our sins and die for us so that if we would give up our sins and lay them on the Lord, He could perfect us and sanctify us through His holy spirit, and we would be washed clean and made worthy to live in His presence for all eternity, with a fullness peace and of joy wrought through our experiences here on this world that He has created for us. He is our Father and He loves us. We are His children. We should live our lives to honor and glorify Him and His endless, everlasting, unequivocal, unconditional love.

Kyle answered…

We believe that God is our Father. He is all wise, knowing and powerful. We are his spirit children and as such he loves us and knows us individually. We are created in HIs image.

Joe answered…

God is the father of all people. He created us in His image. He loves us, and he watches over us. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be a Savior for us and to show us how to return to live with God with our families forever.

Andrew answered…

God is our Father in Heaven. He created us and loves us more than we can know. He wants us to follow Him in this life and return to live with Him for eternity.

He has a perfect resurrected body, and we were created in his image, albeit mortal for this life.

Terence answered…

Mormons believe that God loves us because He is our litteral Father in Heaven, He created us in His image, as such we know that He has a body similar to ours. But His body is perfect and immortal. He knows each and every one of us even more than we know ourselves sometimes.
He hasn't left us alone and has given us the opportunity to know of Him through prayer. Even if we aren't sure that He is there He does have a plan for us. We don't know all the plans that He has for us but we do know that He wants us to walk by faith in following him. As we do this He's promised to bless us in ways that surprise us.

Quentin answered…

I believe that most Christians today belief in a concept called the Trinity. This definition of God is based on the Nicean Creed or Apostles Creed. Both of these creeds were written about 400 years after Christ and were written by committees where there was vehement dissent. Is this how God provided information or knowledge in the past? No. The Trinity has no scriptural basis as far as I can tell. To whom was Christ speaking when he said, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do?" Or what was Stephen seeing in vision when he saw Jesus on the right hand of God? To whom was Christ speaking when he told Mary to not touch him as he had not ascended to his Father yet? We believe that God the Father sent his only begotten Son Jesus Christ to the earth and that Jesus will send another comforter even the Holy Ghost. So, we believe they are 3 separate beings--all acting with one voice, one purpose, one goal--to help us find true joy and happiness.

Sean. answered…

We believe that God is there, and that He has a perfected body of flesh and bone. We believe that He is the Father of our spirits, and loves and knows each and every one of us by name. We have a very real relationship with HIm, and He wants us to talk with him through prayer. We also believe that He is perfect in every way, and his goal is to help us become like HIm and return to live with Him someday.

Bruce answered…

Mormons believe in the existence of God, the Eternal Father, His Son, Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost. We believe these three beings are separate, distinct and personal. God the Father and Jesus Christ are beings of flesh and bone while the Holy Ghost is a Spirit. We describe these beings as a "Godhead" - separate but with a united purpose. This is not far removed at all from Christians who use the term "Trinity". The concepts are much closer than is often thought.

Patrick answered…

God is our Heavenly FATHER in the truest sense of the word. He loves us, He cares for us, and He provides for us. He wants the best for us, and He wants us to be as happy as He is, which is why He has provided the plan of salvation for us, His children, which is only made possible through the sacrifice of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Cory answered…

This is one thing that is very important to know. The nature of God, everything he does is "to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." Simply put, he wants us to come back to live with Him again and be able to have Eternal Happiness. Every commandment He gives, ever trial He allows to come into our life, everything thing that happens is a way for us to grow and learn to be able to be happy forever rather than just temporarily. Its also important to realize our relationship with Him. If you hear us talk about God or pray to him you will likely hear us refer to Him as our "Heavenly Father." This is because He is our literal Father in Heaven who has all the characteristics and motives that a "perfect father" would have in relationship with his children. Because He knows everything there is to know, He also knows how to best help us learn, grow, and be happy. We may not always see it that way, the same way we may not see it as children when our parents tell us not to do something, but there is a reason behind it that we dont see with our limited view.

Andrea answered…

He is merciful and will comfort us abundantly in our trials and forgive freely as we repent. He is also just and will reward us perfectly for our efforts as well as punish those whose motives were evil no matter the rationalization.

Chad answered…

We believe that God is our loving Eternal Father in Heaven. That he is literally or spiritual father, and that we are literally His spiritual children. We believe that he has a glorified and perfected body of flesh and bone and that we are truly created in His image. We believe that God, Jesus Christ, and the Holly Ghost are separate and distinct beings. We believe that God loves us and wants more than any thing that we return to Him, so that we can become like He is.

Kyra answered…

We believe Heavenly Father God is a loving God.

Kevin Jr. answered…

We believe that God is our Eternal Father, and that he created us in his image. God has a perfected immortal body.

Lorin answered…

We believe that God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ are two seperate individuals with physical bodies. That thier appearance is human, and that we are literally crated in their image. We believe that the Holy Ghost is a third person with a body of spirit without a physicaal body. This is what we call the God Head, each member is a seperate individual.

Laura answered…

The Prophet Joseph Smith through revelation from God recieved 13 Articles of Faith things that the LDS church believe in. The First of which states.
"We abelieve in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost."
We can see that from this God, is the Eternal Father. He is our Father.
Moses 139 states, "For behold, this is my work and my glory - to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man."
God glories in his children just as a father in this world would glory in the progression of his sons and daughters.

I believe God to be kind and loving, I believe him to want the best for us and the way we can achieve that is through his plan of happiness. It is through this plan that we can gain eternal life. God wants us to have all that he has and the way we do that is through our Savior Jesus Christ and his Atonement. God loves us so much that he sent his only begotten son Jesus Christ to die for us and Atone for our sins our griefs, our frustrations, and pain, that we may return back to our father's presence to live and grow to become even as he is.

Craig answered…

God is a very real person, just like you or me. He has a physical body that is perfect and immortal. If He were to stand before us, we'd see that He looks like a human being. God is literally our Father. He created us in His image. And like any respectable father, God loves us, His children. He wants more than anything for us to be happy.

He's put together a big plan to help us become just as happy as He is. He placed us on this earth in this life so that we can learn and grow. He gave us commandments to protect us and lead us to happiness. We show God that we love Him by following those commandments. We make God sad when we don't keep those commandments.

The most important part of that plan was the Savior Jesus Christ. Our Father sent Jesus Christ to pay the price for our disobedience to His commandments. Jesus made two things possible. After His death, when Christ was resurrected, everyone who would ever live would live again forever. After his suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane and His death on the cross, anyone who wanted to be forgiven for their mistakes could be forgiven if they lived Christ's teachings.

Sarah answered…

We believe that God is literally our Father in Heaven which makes us His sons and daughters. You are a child of God! We believe that God know us individually, by name, and loves us more than we can even imagine. We also believe that God has a plan in life for each of us and that He is anxious to communicate with us and guide us in our lives.

Rich answered…

God is our loving Heavenly Father. We are literally his children, created in His image. We are not perfect, but He is and we want to be more like Him. Our time here on earth is our opportunity to work to be more like Him by learning, growing, experiencing challenges and getting a little bit better every day. We want to be like He is so that we can eventually return to live with Him someday.

Lillian answered…

We believe that God, the father and his son Jesus christ, are two separate beings. They have a body of flesh and Bones just like us, but are in a perfect form. Thus the Holy spirit does not have a body, but is a comforter, and the third member of the God-head.

Derek answered…

I think the single most important thing we believe about God is that he is our Father. As our Father, God love us and wants us to progress and reach our full potential, but more than anything he wants us to be happy. Much like an earthly father sending a child away to college, God knew that we needed to come to this earth to progress and be happy, but he also knew that on earth we would learn difficult lessons that often involve pain, loss, sorrow, guilt, regret and every other negative thing you can imagine. Lovingly, God sent his son Jesus Christ to Atone for our sins and take upon himself all the consequences of those sins as well as all the sickness and tragedy and sorrow and all other painful experiences we have in this life. By looking to God and His Son, we are able to find peace and joy in forgiveness from sin and comfort in sorrow. God loves you. And that is the most important thing you will ever learn.

Chris answered…

God is our Loving Heavenly Father. We are his Children. Jesus is the Christ the savior and redeemer. The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Godhead. He teaches us truth through feelings in the heart. He gives feelings of peace joy and enlightens the minds of people who are willing to believe in Jesus Christ. He teaches us that Jesus is the Christ and that God is our Heavenly Father. Our Heavenly Father, our Savior Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are completely one in purpose. There wills are completely united - made one. They are separate Beings. God the Father has a body. So does the Son, but the Holy Ghost does not have a body. I personally learn more about who our Heavenly Father is by praying to Him and relying on the grace of Jesus Christ by praying in his name. God is holy and we need to rely on the grace of Jesus Christ to come to know Him. We receive Jesus Christ's grace on the condition of repentance. In this way we come to know God. I know that Jesus is the Christ and that God is our Heavenly Father and that the Holy Ghost testifies of truth and teaches us to live peaceably with each other and inspires us to believe in Christ. I write this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Cami answered…

We believe that God has a body of flesh and bones. We are created in his image. We have a loving Heavenly Father, who is the Father of our spirits. He sent his son Jesus Christ down to earth to show us the way back to Him. We can have the Holy Ghost, a member of the Godhood with us always as we try to do what is right.

Janett answered…

He is our Father in Heaven, we look like him. He loves us and want us to return to him. He sent his son Jesus Christ to help us back, by his examples.
He knows who we are,our pain and our joy and our name. He hears our prayers and answers them always, sometimes not the way we want, but what is best for us. We were put on this earth to learn, make mistakes and try again. So someday we can be like him.

Jessica. answered…

We believe that God is our loving Heavenly Father. He knows and loves each and every one of us. He cares about what is important to us. He is easily reached through prayer. He hears and answers us. He is not far away from us. :)

Chase answered…

We believe that God is our loving Heavenly Father. We are his children. He literally created us in the pre-existence. He loves us just as our earthly fathers love us. He cry's for us when we are sad, he rejoices for us when we are happy. He knows that we will find happiness by following his commandments, and he hopes we will do just that.

John answered…

We believe that God is the father of us all, that he is the creator of all our spirits. We believe that He is the third member of the Godhead, which is made up of God, the Eternal Father, His son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost; all three separate and distinct beings. We believe that before we lived here on the earth, we all lived in the presence of God as his sons and daughters. We believe that we can have direct communication with God by praying to him in the name of his son Jesus Christ. We believe that this earthly life is a proving or testing ground to show that we can make right choices. If we can do so, we can return to live and progress in the presence of God again.

Brent. answered…

We believe that GOD is LOVE. Not because we're so lovable that He can't help Himself, but because that's who He is. LOVE is His very identity. He is our Father. Like all Fathers, He has children that are designed to become similar in attributes, nature, and character, as He is. We claim that to recieve Eternal Life is to know Him (John 17:3). He has a tangible body of flesh and bone. He knows us and cares for us as a perfect Father.

Angela answered…

He has a body of flesh and bone, not flesh and blood like we who are mortal. He is a resurrected being. He is the Father of our spirits. He is the Father of Jesus Christ's spirit and body. He loves us and desperately wants us to return to Him, and so he gives us commandments that if we obey, will keep our lives in harmony with the gospel and we will be able to return to his glorious presence. He wants to bless us and looks for every opportunity to do so. It is up to us to live so we can claim the blessings He has in store for us. He, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost make up the Godhead; they are three distinct and separate beings, unified in purpose.

Adam. answered…

He is righteous, kind, loving, patient, all-wise, all-powerful, merciful, and just. He is our Father. We are His children. Contrary to popular belief, He has a body of flesh and bone. It is similar to ours just like my body is similar to yours. The main difference is that He is immortal and his body is perfect and glorified beyond our mortal minds can imagine or comprehend. Because He is our Father, He loves us and has a plan for us and wants us to learn those things and do those things that will help us become like Him, just like any righteous father would.

Michael answered…

We believe that we are the literal children of God and that he loves us infinitly. he has a perfected body of flesh and bone whose glory we cannot describe. he is the ruler of the universe and has perfect love for us. we were created in his image (Genesis 1:27). He has two hands with five fingers each we have two hands with five fingers each, he has two eyes and so on. He has infinite mercy and kindness. he has a perfect plan for us to be able to gain joy and live with him eternaly after this life through his son Jesus Christ.

Kelsi answered…

God is our living Heavenly Father. He has a body just like us.
