The Prophet today is Thomas S. Monson. He is the 16th President of the Church. I met President Monson at my Grandfathers W. Cleon Skousen funeral in 2006, before he became the President. He was then in the First Presidency. During the funeral he was kind, encouraging and sincere. As I listened to him speak, and as I remember his remarks, I am strengthened. At General Conference twice a year and reading his writings for the Ensign Magazine I am reminded that he is certainly a Man of God who leads the Church with a very intelligent and compassionate demeanor. I know he is the prophet because he truly reveals God's will. I know he does because the Spirit testifies to me that it is true. President Thomas Spencer Monson, is the president of our church today. I know him. I have visited with him. He spoke at my dad's funeral. He came to my parents home when my dad was dying. He is a compassionate, funny man. If you don't listen carefully, you may miss the strength of testimony and strength of personality in his sweet smile and easy laugh. You can find out what he has said on this website or at www.lds.org The idea that God speaks to mankind today through a living prophet really resonates with me. It tells me that God knows us, wants us to be happy and expects us to improve ourselves. Honestly, I have tried to put into practice many things that Thomas Monson and others before him, like Gordon B. Hinckley have taught. In every case I have been the better man for it. Who can argue with that?

The Lord sends revelation to anyone who is willing to receive it. I have experienced much revelation which has helped me solve problems in my own life. Revelation to guide the Lord's Church on the earth though, must come through the person who the Lord has appointed to lead His Church, His Prophet, or there would be confusion. This gives unity to the Church and enables us to have the Lords guidance in dealing with current issues and problems.

In the days of the early church, Peter was given revelation to guide the church. Even at that, many people claimed they had other revelation such as those who wanted to incorporate Mosiac law into Christianity. Peter and Paul were constantly trying to keep the Gospel teachings as Christ taught them.

Being the prophet of the early church, Peter was given the revelation that nothing was unclean with the Lord. From this he realized that the Gospel was now to be taken to the Gentiles. I think it is interesting to note that this revelation to Peter was a direct response to Cornelius' prayer (and probably many other Gentiles). Also, Moses was given revelation about leading the Israelites out of Egypt, but only after many years of pleadings from the people. I don't think we generally receive revelation unless we ask for it and are ready and willing to follow it.

God does not change and He works in the same way in these times--through Prophets.

Thomas Monson. But he isn't the Mormon prophet, he is the entire world's prophet. He is God's mouthpiece on Earth. We believe God loves us today as much as he loved the people who lived at the time of Moses or Noah. Why would God call prophets then but not now? We do not worship the prophet but we do listen and abide by his teachings because they come from God. The way I know he is true prophet is by listening to what he teaches. Everyone can find out for themselves.

Through the restoration of the gospel in the 1800's god has returned his church and his authority to the earth after a time of apostasy. We are blessed in this day to be led by a prophet of god, a man who not only holds the preisthood keys and authority to administer to the church, but has a great love for the people of the entire earth.
