About Me

I am a skateboarder and have been skating since I was 11 years old. I got sponsored by a local skate shop 2 years after starting. That was my spark to become a professional skateboarder and make it a career. I had so much drive to make what I loved more then anything a job. I haven't stopped since.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised into the church but didn't have a testimony of my own. It wasn't until I ventured away from the church in my early teens and found myself gaining an extremely strong testimony through skateboarding and my mom and sisters's example.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by living the word of wisdom and better understanding the benefits of following that and gaining a deeper understanding of why that was put into place.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Joseph Smith was a great man and we revere him as such because of the great and important things he accomplished. We do not worship Joseph Smith or serve him. We study about his life, because of the great significance of Joseph Smith's first vision and the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the priesthood authority. It is a series of remarkable historical events.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Rochester, New York on a business trip and I found time to visit the nearby town of Palmyra and the Sacred Grove. I was able to see and study and review the circumstances surrounding the events and experiences of Joseph Smith. This was no chance happening or coincidence.

We worship Our Heavenly Father and His Son, the resurrected Lord, Jesus Christ.

No. I've never even met the man.

One night I was on the front row of a concert. A big star came to the edge of the stage and held out his hand. EVERYONE rushed forward, climbing over each other, pushing and wedging themselves along, just to touch him. I almost got caught up in that too, and was about to rush ahead when a little voice kicked in "He's just a man. What's the big deal?" At that moment I vowed to never adulate anything less than deity. I will not go to my knees for anyone but a Loving God.

I respect Joseph Smith like I respect any man who tries his best to live according to his conscience. I hope maybe one day I'll get to chat with him over lunch--or over whatever kind of meal they offer in the life beyond. But I cannot worship a man, for why should I place and value one person any higher than another?

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Serving a mission is a priesthood responsibility, and young men are asked to sacrifice two years in order to serve others, gain experience as followers of Christ, and grow in their faith. However, that is a choice each individual has to make on their own and deciding not to go does not affect a person's standing in the Church. But those who do go, men and women alike, usually find that two years is not enough time and wish they could stay longer. Service creates bonds of love for the people you serve. I was unable to go in my young adult years, but I still yearn for the opportunity and look forward to a time when I can serve as a missionary.
