Conflict between parents and children
Conflict between parents and children

It’s normal for children to become resistant to parents’ guidance, but the conflict that sometimes arises can affect the entire family.

Here are some ways to strengthen your relationship:

  • Express love so your child has a strong sense of belonging.
  • Communicate limits and expectations in a firm but gentle way .
  • Express respect for your child’s individual preferences within the limits you set.
Sometimes you may still feel you just aren’t communicating with your child. Here are a few more ideas to try:
  • Ask other caring adults to help.
  • Use family activities to model the principles you would like to discuss.
  • Invite your child without putting pressure on him/her to share thoughts and feelings.
  • Write a letter to your child expressing your love for him or her.
You may not see immediate changes, but as you  love your child patiently, you can feel peace, and hope for a better relationship in the future.
