Jesus Christ with Children
Humility and service

Few, if any, settings require the virtues of humility and service more than the family. And few provide more opportunities to practise these virtues.

Jesus set the example of humility and service for us. Those who followed Jesus called Him “Master.” Yet, although He was their leader, Jesus taught them He was their servant. He wrapped a towel around Himself and washed their feet in a basin of water. That was a job for servants, not for one who was their Master. He told them that if He was willing to serve them by washing their feet, they ought to be willing to serve each other.

Likewise, family members—whether male or female, old or young—should be humble enough to serve each other as needed. Reading about Jesus’ humble service can inspire our families to serve each other better.

Read about Jesus washing His disciples’ feet in John 13:5–17.
