Settling of Salt Lake
The Latter-day Saint pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley in July of 1847. Brigham Young surveyed the valley from his wagon and announced, “This is the right place.”
- The pioneers immediately began to irrigate, plow the land, and plant crops.
- They went to work building homes, schools, and churches.
- Brigham Young designated the place where the Salt Lake Temple would be built.
- Salt Lake City has grown from that small pioneer community to a city of about 200,000 residents, with over one million people in the metropolitan area.
