Hi, I'm Suzi
I'm preparing for medical school and love to bake desserts! I'm a Mormon. :-)
About Me
I'm Suzi and I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I was born in mainland China but moved to Utah with my family when I was 4 years old and have been here ever since. I majored in music and biology and am getting ready to start medical school this fall. I have one younger brother (he's 19), a tank full of fish and awesome parents! I love to bake desserts, eat cold cereal and read good books on rainy days. Laughter really is the best medicine! I love increasing my knowledge of the gospel, global health, all sciences--basically, I just love learning new things. One day, I hope (like everyone else) to change the world! :)
Why I am a Mormon
I grew up in Utah and so the influence of the LDS Church was all around me. I was invited to attend church services when I was young but I never really understood the meaning of the gospel until I was about 14 years old. I had a wonderful friend who invited me to attend an activity that was specifically meant for the young women (12-18 yrs) of her congregation and I enjoyed every moment of it! From that point on, I continued to learn and grow in my knowledge of the gospel. Slowly but surely I began to realize that I had finally found the peace and joy I had been searching for.
I knew when I was about 16 that the LDS Church is true, there was no doubt in my mind. There was no other church that answered all of my questions and no other place that I felt such a strong connection with my Father in Heaven and my Savior. Like it says in James 1:5, "if any of ye lack wisdom, let him ask of God..." And I did. The Holy Ghost confirmed to me the truth of this restored gospel. I know that my Redeemer lives! I know that my Father in Heaven and my Savior loves me. I know that because of this great love, our Father in Heaven willingly set His Son here, and Jesus Chris willingly suffered and died, so that we could be cleansed from our sins and be redeemed by Him. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of the Lord and that he, by divine guidance and inspiration, translated the gold plates into the Book of Mormon and brought forth the restored gospel. I know that the Book of Mormon is a true account of the inhabitants of the ancient Americas and that it bears an additional testimony of the divine mission of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I know that the Lord has provided us with living prophets at this time to continue to receive divine inspiration in this ever changing and increasingly turbulent world.
My parents asked me to wait until I was older to join the LDS Church, and so when I was 18, I was baptized and I've never looked back. :-)
Personal Stories
How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?
The Book of Mormon was translated by divine inspiration--the Lord guided Joseph and his scribes in making sure that this great book would come forth. It bears an additional testimony of our Savior and His divine mission here on this earth. Each time as I read the Book of Mormon, I see more and more of the love and the tender mercies that the Lord has for His children here on this earth. I see His commandments and that when they are kept, peace and joy ensue among all people and that when they are broken, war and strife occur. My belief in an unchanging, everlasting God has increased as I realize that the Lord has given the same commandments to all the people of the earth. The Book of Mormon testifies to me that Lord loves all His children here on this earth. I've felt His peace and comfort as I've read this book and I have had the confirmation of the Holy Ghost tell me that it this book is indeed true. But please, don't take my word for it. Read it and find out for yourself--ask the Lord with all sincerity of your heart if is true. It will change your life, as it has mine. :-)
How I live my faith
As I continue to grow in the gospel (I joined the LDS Church when I was 18), I've found that the more I do, the more I learn. One way that I currently serve is working specifically with the women in my congregation (ward). The women over the age of 18 in my Church are organized into a group called the Relief Society where our motto is "charity never faileth." Our congregation is a special one made up of only young single adults (ages 18-30) and during this crucial time in our lives, we need all the love and support we can get! I serve with three other sisters to help our congregation leaders with the women of our ward. We spend time visiting them each month and trying to help meet both their temporal and spiritual needs. Wonderful new friendships are made and our goal is let each woman know that she is a daughter of God and that He loves her! We are here to help each other increase faith in our Savior and personal righteousness, strengthen home and families and prepare for the blessings of the eternities.
