Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a Mormon and listened to the lovely story of how my father met my mother in Holland when he served a mission there. He baptised her and my grandmother. He went back to Germany in the Army and sought out my mother on leave days. They were married. I was born in Heidelberg. I was priveleged to live with my grandmother for a year when I was twelve. It was a big change, not only in language and school, country and culture, but also the branch of the church in Hilversum was very small. It meant more to me when attending church took more effort that climbing in the family car and visiting with my friends. Here no one was my age, My grandmother and I rode our bicycles to church for thirty minutes. We helped set up the chairs. Sometimes there weren't many others attending other than us and the missionaries. But my testimony grew. I felt my Heavenly Father's presence in this small branch far away from my home in Arizona, where almost everyone I knew was Mormon. I learned how to read the hymns and sing them in Dutch. My grandmother's clear strong voice next to me was full of conviction. When she told me her conversion story I felt a burning in my chest that let me know it was true. There are many more instances that have convinced me that I belong to the correct church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know my Savior loves me. He watches over me and protects me and my loved ones.

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

I feel like my prayers are somewhat like Tevia's conversation's with God in Fiddler in the Roof. I step out of the door in the morning to let out the dog and see the wonderful sunshine and feel the breeze on my face, hear the birds singing and I want to sing my thanks for another beautiful day.
As the day progresses I carry on a conversation with my Heavenly Father in my head something like this: "What do you think about that?" "I want to do this. Do you think it's a good idea?" "Lord, I need help now, right now!!!" "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!" And so forth and so on. I feel His influence all the time and know he directs my paths.

How I live my faith

I teach a class for the women in my church once a month.
I visit ladies and teach them in their home, help them if they need it.
I check on neighbors and help when I can.
I like to help with humanitarian efforts like making quilts, putting together hygiene kits.
Sometimes I play my violin at church for special occasions.

What is the Relief Society?

Relief Society is the women's organization in the church. All women ages 18 and older are members of the Relief Society. We serve one another, our families and the community. We teach one another, we share our joys and our sorrows. Relief Society is a World Wide Sisterhood.

The Relief Society is the organization in the Church where women come together to strengthen, serve, and teach each other. It's Motto is "Charity Never Faileth" which women of the Church live by to bring relief to the weary and down trodden. Women meet as a Relief Society each week to learn about the Gospel and grow closer to Jesus Christ. Women are asked to serve in many capacities within the Relief Society and give of their time and talents. There are also activities where women share skills and do service for those in their community as well as victims of disasters around the world.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

There are doctrinal answers to why we believe we need a Savior to redeem us from the Fall of Adam and to return us to our Father in Heaven that you'll probably come across here. But let me tell you why I need a Savior personally and what He does for me. Christ suffered personally for my pains, sorrows, and sins so that if I ask Him too, He can take them from me. I have been the victim of abuse in my life, and yet through Him I have been able to lay it all at His feet, freely forgive, feel peace, find love, and understand how important negative life experiences can be in teaching us humility. Daily He takes my pain and replaces it with pure love so that I am no longer a victim, but a victor. I need a Savior because He knows me, and through him my flaws become strengths and my pain becomes peace.
