Rachel: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Rachel

I grew up in Mexico. I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful little girls. I love reading, cooking, and eating. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I just graduated a few years ago from college, but more important to me is that I was married almost four years ago to a wonderful man. Now we have two beautiful, sweet girls and we hope to have more children soon. I love to spend time with my husband and daughters, playing in the yard and garden, swimming, reading, and whatever else we can do that lets us spend time together.
I love to cook and learn more about making food both healthier and tastier. And I definitely enjoy eating good food! I love to read a good book and just enjoy the beauty of nature: the trees, the mountains, everything. It really brings me so much peace. I've lived in several big cities in my lifetime, but part of me always misses being closer to nature.
Being a wife and mother is definitely the most challenging thing I've taken on in my life, but I cherish almost every moment...I learn something new about my family members everyday and it is a joy to be a part of something so wonderful as a growing family. I have hopes and fears in my responsibility as both wife and mother, but I feel that the Savior is leading me forward. I know He wants me to succeed because my children, my husband, and I are very precious to Him.

Why I am a Mormon

Both sides of my family have been members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for many generations. The legacy and faith from my ancestors has really strengthened my resolve to know and understand and believe in the Savior's church for myself. As I grew up I learned all I could about the church and I prayed often to know whether it really had the true gospel of Jesus Christ. I know from answers to my prayers that Jesus Christ is my Savior; I know that this really is His church and His gospel. Throughout my life so far I have not only felt answers to my prayers, but seen how His gospel has blessed my life. As I have tried each day to live His teachings I have found help in making difficult decisions. For example, as I dated my future husband, I felt inspired through prayer and meditation that he was a good man and would be a good father for our future family. My husband has proven that to be true time and time again as we've dealt with different struggles, financial, emotional, and others.
I know that the Savior is guiding this church because He is the head of it. He teaches us how to live His commandments through his prophets and leaders in order to bring us greater happiness in this life and even after we die. I know this with all my heart, even when I have moments of discouragement and doubt. He wants all of us to feel of His love and to have His truth, which is why I am so thankful to have His gospel in my life, and why I want to share it with anyone who might read this. He is the Savior and this is His church. He welcomes all and any no matter what. I know these things and it has truly made all the difference in my life.

Personal Stories

Think about your everyday activities. What are things you act upon each day where you cannot see the end results? How does faith move you to action?

I am a mother so it feels like every minute of every day is full of acts where I cannot see the end results. By remembering to study the scriptures each day help my children feel of their importance? If I pray ever day will the Lord really answer and guide me to raise my children right?
Honestly, I feel like my faith in the Lord wasn't truly tested until I became a wife and mother. These precious little children have their whole lives waiting to be lived and a lot of how it turns out depends on what kind of a mother I am. Obviously, each person has their own personality and choices to be made. But I can't help thinking each day how important it is that they know that they are deeply loved; that they know that their mommy loves the Savior and His gospel; that they know that she doesn't just talk the talk, but walks the walk. It's a huge responsibility in my mind, and without my faith in the Savior and His love for me and my children, I know I would want to give up. I believe that He wants me to have these children and more in the future. I believe that He wants to help me raise them in a good, clean, and mostly happy home. My faith keeps me moving forward when I have no real idea what is going to happen to my children as they grow up. I don't know what challenges they will face or the choices they might make, but I do know that as I try to be faithful to the Lord, He will help all of us to make it through whatever might come.

How I live my faith

We recently moved in order for my husband to continue with his education. We decided to take advantage that we both speak Spanish and so we have been attending a branch of the church that has all its meetings in Spanish. This has been both challenging and fun, since it has been a few years since I've spoken this much Spanish, but the members have been very, very welcoming. It is a small branch so we definitely feel needed! :)
Each Sunday we meet as a branch, part of the time is spent in classes learning more about the doctrine of the Savior's gospel. This also includes separate and specific classes for the children in our branch. My husband and I were asked to be called as leaders and teachers along with others to help the children. We teach them short lessons about the gospel, have fun activities, and we also help them learn many songs that teach about the gospel. I love music, so being able to teach the children songs about the Savior and His gospel has really been a wonderful and fun thing for me to do. Music can touch the soul sometimes much more than many other forms of teaching, in my opinion. It is an amazing and fun way for children to remember essential points about the Savior, His life and His teachings. Being a mother has helped me to appreciate how important it is to help all of these children to feel and know about the Savior, His gospel and His love for each of them. It has been challenging sometimes to reach out to the children, but this responsibility has also blessed my life so much. To know I might be a little bit of help towards a good future for these children is definitely a rewarding feeling.
