Hi, I'm Rachel
About Me
I am the middle child of five. My dad died of cancer when I was twelve, so I grew up with a single mom. I am a college graduate and a licensed Social Worker. I have been happily married for ten years and have four beautiful children. I love being a mother. I also love to talk and laugh with friends, read, and work out. Most importantly, I love being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Why I am a Mormon
I was born into a Mormon family, but that doesn't mean I didn't make the choice to stay a Mormon. I am a Mormon because there is nothing that brings more hope, peace, and happiness to my life.
Personal Stories
How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?
When I was twelve years old, my father died of colon cancer. It was an extremely difficult time for our family. My young mother was left to raise five children on her own. But, because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the Plan of Happiness, what could have been a complete tragedy, became the center of my faith. Because of my beliefs in God and in his plan, I knew that the death that separated me from my father was only temporary. I knew that I would see him again someday. I knew that even after death, my family could still be a family in Heaven. I treasure that knowledge. It has encouraged me to make good choices so that I would be worthy to go to Heaven someday. It has been the glue that has held me to this Church. I know that it is real.
In what ways have your prayers been answered?
My prayers have been answered in many different ways. Some of the best answers to prayers have come from the people around me. One of my favorite quotes is, "You are how God answers the prayers of others." I firmly believe that most of God's work is done by those who simply have the desire to serve Him, and through that open heart, He is able to place thoughts and ideas in their minds that lead them to those in need. Other times my prayers have been directly answered. A few years back I was working at a job I didn't enjoy, and was pregnant with my second child. We needed a bigger income, but did not know how to do it. One day I was on my knees asking God for his help and direction. No sooner had I said "Amen" then the telephone rang. The person on the other end of the line was calling to offer me a new job. The perfect job for our circumstances. I accepted. That job was a great blessing to us at that time. I know Heavenly Father heard that prayer and is interested in me and my needs. I know He answered my prayer that day.
How I live my faith
I try to live my faith every day. I do my best to be honest in everything I do. My family studies the scriptures and prays together every morning. I do my best to treat others the way my Father in Heaven would want me to treat them- with kindness and respect. In the church I work with the young children, aged 18 months - 11 years old. I organize two activities per year for about one hundred 8 - 11 year old girls. Last year we made blankets, tutu's, and hair bows to donate to a local Woman's Shelter. This year we are going to learn dances from many different cultures. I also look after four women who attend church with me and make sure their needs are met and that they are healthy, happy, and feeling the love of their Father in Heaven.
