Hi, I'm Tyler David

I'm a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

About Me

I grew up in a peaceful town in Kentucky and enjoyed my childhood with close family and friends. While my father grew up attending church, my mother was converted later in life. She's the only member on her side of the family. One of the things that I have enjoyed while growing up in Kentucky, amongst all types of races and the varying classes of society and with many family members that belong to various churches, is the rich cultural diversity I have acquired.

Now, I am a college student, learning all about film and cinema. I would like to one day work making full-length movies or perhaps get a job dealing with sports broadcasting. I have a passion for video editing and have been working with film since middle school. If I'm not shooting my next short film, you could probably find me playing basketball on campus. Basketball is in my blood! My grandfather was actually an All-American at the University of Kentucky and furthered his career in the NBA. Something I am proud to have inherited, probably more than basketball ability, is my grandpa's great love for family. I care so deeply for mine and I can't wait to start my own.

Why I am a Mormon

True conversion is much simpler than some may think. I read the Book of Mormon and found it interesting. After studying a little more and thinking about it's message, I knelt down and prayed. A warm feeling of peace and safety entered into my heart, an answer from God through the Holy Ghost, that this was something real and true, sent by Him, to bless my life. That's why I chose to be baptized in order to enter the path that leads to eternal life.

How I live my faith

Seeking to live my life righteously and striving to become a better person every day. I enjoy showing my love for God and to others by keeping the commandments and serving those around me throughout the week.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Missionary service in the church is not mandatory. I was never pressured by the leaders of the church or even my parents to go out and serve the Lord for two years as a full time missionary, but I did and here's why... I love the gospel with all my heart and soul. The gospel is the only path to eternal life and it is only made possible through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, the Redeemer of the world. It is commonly known that everyone who has ever come to this Earth, is or was a sinner. We have all broken the laws of God at least once in out lives. By justice we are all condemned, but because Jesus lived a perfect life, He could atone for our sins. What He did allows us to repent, to learn and change, thus allowing His mercy to claim hold of us. This is the gospel. This is what Jesus meant when he beckoned us to follow Him. Faith, repentance, baptism, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. I went on a mission to preach these eternal truths because I knew that I could help bring others to Christ. I watched happiness and hope enter the lives of many people as they accepted Christ to be their personal Savior. Even though it cost me an arm and a leg to be able to serve, it was well worth the sacrifice. I am forever grateful for that opportunity to have served the kind people of Argentina for two years.

Serving a mission is a priesthood responsibility, and young men are asked to sacrifice two years in order to serve others, gain experience as followers of Christ, and grow in their faith. However, that is a choice each individual has to make on their own and deciding not to go does not affect a person's standing in the Church. But those who do go, men and women alike, usually find that two years is not enough time and wish they could stay longer. Service creates bonds of love for the people you serve. I was unable to go in my young adult years, but I still yearn for the opportunity and look forward to a time when I can serve as a missionary.

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Why did Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David and Solomon practice plural marriage? Because God told them to. So why did Mormons practice polygamy? Because God commanded us to. There is nothing new about the concept of polygamy. It is only a tool that the Lord sees fit to put in place on his own time.

Any other reasons for it are God's reasons and the fact of the matter is that an all knowing, perfected being, who also happens to be the father of our spirits commanded that it should be done. It really all comes down to your faith in God.
