Lindy: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Lindy

I am a songwriter with seven children. I love to sing and meet new people. I'm blessed to be a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in southern California as the oldest of 11 children. I grew up in a very happy Latter Day Saint home. I have good memories of my family singing around the piano while my mother played. I thought she was amazing. She could play anything.

After graduating, I focused my efforts on being a mother and taking care of my children. I thought being a mother would be easy for me, especially with my experience of being the oldest of so many. The Lord saw fit to humble me right away! My first child was a challenge.

Through the years, I've had the opportunity and challenge of dealing with many mental illnesses such as ADHD, bipolar disorder, depression and many other mental illnesses. Thankfully I haven't been diagnosed with any of these things myself, but I have been regularly involved with comforting others who are.

One of the ways I've learned to deal with this, is through music. I compose piano songs that help me to de-stress. I also write vocal music that lifts and inspires me. I share much of my music on my website: www.kerbymusic.org. One of the greatest blessings I have in my life is when someone downloads some sheet music from my website, and after playing it, they share with me their feelings of how the song touched them, or gave them some peace and comfort.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because it brings me tremendous joy!

I know I haven't been brain washed or forced to become the way I am. I've seen others around me. I've watched as several of my friends have tried to be successful as musicians. Some of them have thought that if they could just be successful, they could find happiness. From my experience, if they do find it, it's short lasting. The only happiness that lasts is in living the gospel.

Even with all the difficulties I've been through, and with the chaos of having seven children in my home- and it is quite loud at times!- I find peace and joy everyday. I find it in music. I find it in my prayers when I pray to Heavenly Father, and I find it in the knowledge that everything I'm going through is for a reason. There is so much to be thankful for. The gospel gives me that strength. It makes all the hard things worthwhile!

Personal Stories

What has helped develop greater harmony in your home?

Every Monday night, we hold something called Family Home Evening. It's a time we spend as a family sharing talents, reading stories, singing, eating, and learning more about the gospel. Our kids love this tradition. We also read scriptures early in the morning together. Organized time that's planned regularly together has really helped to strengthen our home.

In the last few years, we have also started having "Personal Time" on Sundays. Each week we rotate through the members of our family so that we can each spend individual time with another member of our family. This has been a wonderful blessing for our family, to strengthen relationships within our home.

How I live my faith

Because of my talents, I get many opportunities to help with the music programs of the church. Right now I get to be the Choir Director -my favorite calling- and also the piano accompanist for our Children's program in Primary.

I love to be involved. As a mother, I could see myself staying home all the time, and not getting out very often. I look forward to the opportunities I have to visit people, go to church, and serve whenever I get a chance. Serving is one of the sure fire ways to being happy! I have found that to be very true!
