About Me

I'm Justin, and I've been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since the beginning of 2010. I live in Eastern Canada. I am a server at a local restaurant, I love interacting with people.

Why I am a Mormon

I was surfing the net one day when I stumbled across an Ad Banner for the LDS church. I was curious, so I clicked on the banner. After surfing through the mormon.org website, I noticed that there was a "Request a Copy of the Bible" button there. Thinking to myself, "it wouldn't hurt to have a bible", I made the Request. Within 3 hours, the missionaries came to my door, ready to share the word of the Lord. Within a few months, I was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Personal Stories

How has attending Church services helped you?

I have to admit, I was what some would call a hard ticket before I became a member. I feel I was always good at heart, but I was good at making less-than-great choices. When I joined the Church, it was much easier to make the right choices. I had a great atmosphere to thrive on with awesome people, sharing wholesome values with one another, and a common love for God and his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. My life is so much better having all this on my side. :

How I live my faith

I Live my faith my accompanying missionaries to appointments and door-to-door journeys. It brings me a lot of joy to share my faith with others who are unfamiliar with our practices and beliefs. Sometimes we get to assist others with some day-to-day chores that may need to be done, which pleases me a lot as well. Starting soon, I will be doing hometeaching as well. Can't wait! :)

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is a set of teachings to live by regarding how we should treat our body. It teaches us to refrain from alcohol, tobacco, hot drinks like tea and coffee, and illegal, harmful, or habit-forming drugs. We learn that our body must be taken care of. One of the best ways to do this is to stay away from these things. It may be hard to kick some of these habits, but it's so worthwhile when you do it. Trust me, I've done it!

The word of wisdom is the Lord's law of health. We abstain from drugs, tobacco, alcohol, coffee, and tea, and are encouraged to eat wholesome food and grains, and not eat excessive meat. I am asked all of the time by my fellow residents at the hospital why I don't drink coffee, and how I can stay awake all night on call without it. I don't consider it a sacrifice, though, and am as awake and perform as well as any. It is true that the body will be more healthy when following the word of wisdom, the but the main benefit is spiritual. The knowledge that you are in line with the the Lord's teaching is the most important thing.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

As a primary president in my ward, I share in the direction and leadership of our ward. I don't feel secondary in any way. Whether you have the priesthood or not, you are still responsible to listen to the direction of the Savior. The priesthood is a tool and power that is the same power of the Savior. It allows the human authority to do work on earth, particularly perform ordinances, and bless others. As if the Savior was here in person during His ministry accounted for in the New Testament. I would use an analogy to compare the priesthood as a car. A car is an amazing tool allowing you to get you from here to there. I don't mind my husband driving and I can offer some navigation or work the radio, as long as we and our children get there.
