Hi, I'm Rob
I grew up in the Church. I still consider myself a convert. I am eager to answer your questions.
About Me
I'm happily married with four children and living in Illinois. I love anything to do with Gospel discussion and teaching. I'm also talented in Web development and social media strategy, piano, Boy Scout leadership, and I enjoy outdoor activities.
Something unique about me is that I practically grew up in a library, my mother being the library director during my childhood. I knew the Dewey Decimal system well enough to shelve books for her at the ripe old age of 8.
Why I am a Mormon
Even though I was born into a multi-generational Mormon family, I still made my own decision as to whether I would join and continue in the Church. I distinctly remember my parents, at all stages of my conversion, reminding me that it was my decision to make these promises and commitments.
Being a "lifetime" member of the Church is certainly not without its challenges. The difficulties and temptations of this world fall upon everyone, regardless of their spiritual state, wealth, status, education, or family situation.
Personal Stories
Can you talk about the missions of the Church and your participation in them?
I was blessed to be called to serve in the heart of Mesoamerica...Guatemala. The people of Guatemala are beautiful and wonderful. They are hungry for truth and, when prepared by the Spirit to receive it, will grab hold of it with both hands and never let go. The promises in the Book of Mormon to the people of Latin America are sure and are being fulfilled every hour. I feel privileged to have been a part of making those promises a reality.
How has the Holy Ghost helped you?
The Holy Ghost can warn of danger. I experienced this in my youth when I was planning to attend a Church activity. My parents, faithful Latter-day Saints, felt that this particular activity might be too dangerous. Feeling that same still, small warning voice, but the fun I was anticipating at the activity kept me from obeying. I decided to go and ended up having an accident (due to my own recklessness) where I broke my ankle.
I learned a valuable lesson that day, and during 16 weeks of healing and physical therapy. Always listen to the Holy Ghost.
How I live my faith
I live my faith "out loud", sharing it with anyone who is interested and adding it to conversations with total strangers. I believe it is by respectfully sharing our beliefs that we truly get to know a person.
I love to teach church classes, whether it be the youngest children, teens, or adults because I'm the one who gets to learn the most through preparing the lesson.
