Hi, I'm Kedra
I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I'm a new mom. I had a little baby girl a year ago. Before I stopped working to be a full-time mom I worked in a genetics lab studying ways to use fungi as biocontrol agents. I received a Bachelor's degree in Genetics and Biotechnology in 2008 and really enjoyed using my degree. I like hiking and playing racquetball. I love to read as well.
Why I am a Mormon
I'm a Mormon because I know that Jesus Christ loves me and that He has a plan for me. The basic doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are simple and I know them to be true. Jesus Christ died for me so that I can give up my sins and live with my Heavenly Father again after this life. I know that this earth life is not the end, but a short time of our eternal existence. God has given us all the things we need to return to him. We have a prophet on the earth who tells us the things God wants us to know. We can pray to our Heavenly Father and receive personal revelation to help us with the choices we have to make in this life. The Holy Ghost can be our constant companion in comforting and directing us. The scriptures teach us principles that if we apply, help us to be the kind of people we should be. Through all of these things I feel God's love for me and all His children.
Personal Stories
Can you think of a specific challenge in your family that Gospel Principles helped overcome?
My family and I were in an apartment fire last year. We all made it out okay, but we lost most of our belongings. I remember feeling devastated the next day, trying to figure out what to do next. We received help quickly and as things calmed down I was able to remember that material things don't matter and that my most important blessings (my husband and daughter) were spared from the devastation. We were safe and secure. I know that I am sealed to my family and that we will not only be together in this life, but in the life to come. And because material things can disappear so easily, we will be happiest when we have our hearts set on eternal things.
How I live my faith
I work with the teenage girls in my area, specifically those ages 13 and 14. I teach them lessons about the gospel on Sunday and we have activities every Wednesday evening. These activities include learning new things, playing games, getting to know each other, and learning about Jesus Christ. We try to cultivate good practices during our activities like being kind to one another, getting along with people we would not normally hang out with, and using our time wisely.
