About Me

I am a husband, and father of four. I work for a Fortune 25 health and wellness company. As often as possible, I drive a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle and love taking my wife and children for rides on it. I play the violin and enjoy playing classical music as well as old time fiddle.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Christian home and have always been grateful for my testimony of Jesus Christ. I can remember numerous times as a youth having made significant commitments to follow the Savior. A few years ago after I graduated from college and moved to a new community I set out to look for a church to join, and I methodically visited numerous denominations and congregations in my endeavor to find the right church for me. During my searching, a friend provided a copy of The Book of Mormon. I read the book from cover to cover and realized it contained the answer to my searching. The Book of Mormon not only strengthened the convictions I already had regarding Jesus Christ, His Gospel and the Holy Bible, but it also helped me complete some of the remaining "puzzle" of life that I had been solving to that point in my life - as if it helped me find some very important missing pieces of the puzzle I had been trying to put together. The most compelling part of my conversion was the powerful witness of the Holy Ghost that I received upon reading The Book of Mormon and as I sincerely prayed to know whether it is of God. That spiritual conviction has grown even stronger throughout the years as I have continued to read this wonderful book again and again.

Why do Mormons go on missions?

When I became a member of the Mormon Church, nothing seemed more important to me than to share the happiness and joy I had gained with others who might also be searching for truth. So I served a two-year full-time mission in the England Leeds Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My mission was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to share my testimony and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to many people in England.

In what ways have your prayers been answered?

I believe God answers prayers. I know He answers mine. Throughout my life I have prayed for many important reasons, and looking back through my life I can recognize God's answers to those prayers. One specific example is when I was searching for a church to join. I had been searching and praying to learn which church was right for me. After some time of methodically visiting numerous churches the answer to my prayers came with a friend offering me a copy of The Book of Mormon. Until that time I had not known about this book, but once I read the book from cover to cover I realized it was exactly what I had been searching for and my prayers for finding the right church were further answered by the testimony I received from the Holy Ghost as I prayed about The Book of Mormon and the other information I learned about the Mormon Church. As I reflect back on this period of my life I am reminded by the scripture that tells us to "seek and ye shall find", and I realize that had I not been searching and praying in search of truth I may have not learned about The Book of Mormon and I would have missed out on the greatest blessings of my life. Fortunately for me I prayed. Fortunately for me God answered my prayers. And He answered my prayer by someone sharing information about the most important book I have ever learned of - The Book of Mormon. I am so grateful for prayer and how Heavenly Father has answered my prayers.

How I live my faith

Our family enjoys the blessings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have found that placing our faith in the Savior brings happiness and joy. Reading in the scriptures and praying as a family has brought us much closer together, and we have common goals which help us set our sights on eternal objectives which greatly help us navigate through the daily challenges of his life.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

God is perfect and glorious and we are His spiritual offspring and are created in His image. He sent us to Earth to obtain a physical body and to learn to make good choices in order to further progress to become more like Him. Although we are His children, through our own efforts we cannot return to God nor can we become like Him. This is because of two very important reasons. 1) The end of this life is defined by a condition called "death" which is the physical separation of our spirit from our body - thus one of the primary reasons for this life suddenly becomes completely unattainable for us to achieve. 2) During this life we all sin, or willfully defy God's commandments, and sin makes us unworthy to return to God's presence. The separation from God due to our spiritual condition we call Spiritual Death. Therefore, on both accounts we fail miserably as we experience both physical and spiritual death. We would remain forever in this state of physical and spiritual death except for the fact that Jesus Christ provided an Eternal Atonement on our behalf that enables us to be forgiven of our sins, and He also overcame physical death for all mankind when He arose from the tomb on the third day following His death on the cross. The Atonement He provided us offers the remedy to our dilemma and enables us to be resurrected so that our body and spirit will again be reunited, and as we are able to be forgiven and our sins are washed away, our souls can become clean and spotless to qualify us to live in God's presence.

The fundamental principle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the faith in, reliance upon, and relationship with Jesus Christ. We regard Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world. Everyone on the earth today has made mistakes. All of us have come short of the perfect example that Christ set for us. The problem is the laws of God state that “no unclean person…hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.” (Ephesians 5:5) Because of these laws, we needed a way to be cleansed from these sins and mistakes. God knew that we would fall short of perfection and by His grace he provided us a Savior, Jesus Christ. Being a perfect soul without blemish, Jesus was capable and willing to take upon Himself our sins. Because He paid the penalty for our sins, the atonement, we must take upon ourselves His name to reap the blessings of forgiveness. We do this by having faith in Christ, admitting and repenting of our sins, and being baptized in the true and restored church of Jesus Christ.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

A ward or branch is the local unit of the church. This is the place where members have the opportunity to develop friendships and to help one another. We get support and lessons on the scriptures and how to improve our family relationships.

Our Heavenly Father expects us to lift and serve one another in this life. This is the principle behind a volunteer clergy. The local leader of a ward or branch calls on various members on the ward/branch to volunteer their services in teaching and leading the other members. We all donate our time and thus are able to lift and serve on another. The leaders seek divine guidance in making these callings. We who have been called to also seek divine guidance in fulfilling our positions.

We each try to follow the teachings of an ancient prophet who taught that when we are baptized we "are willing to bear one another's burdens, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort." (Book of Mormon, Mosiah 18:8-9).

Through our volunteer service, members lift one another's burdens and express our love to one another.
