Hi, I'm Alex H.
I got back from my mission in Jamaica a while ago now. Now I am preparing to be a teacher, and I am Mormon.
About Me
In the Summer of 2010, I returned from my mission. I have been trying to make the tough decisions of a young adult, but I love art, writing, learning, and teaching. My goal is to be a teacher. Thank you for your time in reading the words of my profile. I am an avid writer.
Why I am a Mormon
I was born in the church, but that does not mean I was brain washed. I have a knowledge of the truthfulness of the Restoration of the fullness of the Gospel because I live it.
I have this knowledge because it is a gift of God from my family. It comes by the Holy Ghost, the comforter. We all learn by the Holy Ghost, and we can feeling. All of us need the gift of the Holy Ghost to feel the comfort that only comes from God. This is how I know all of this is completely true. I feel the Holy Ghost confirming the truthfulness of what I am doing. Although this gift is given at baptism, nonmembers can feel the comfort of the Holy Ghost occasionally when we read the word of God.
As God restored his Gospel through Joseph Smith, he revealed a lost record of a remnant of the house of Israel, named of the abridger himself, the Book of Mormon. This book is the keystone of our religion, a book that kindles faith, a substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. This book is completely true. "I would exhort you that would ask God thee Eternal Father in the name of Christ if these things are true, if ye ask with a sincere heart, real intent, and faith in Christ, he will manifest it unto you by the power of the Holy Ghost" are the paraphrased words of the son of Mormon as his writes the final chapter of the book. I have done this for myself and you need to do it for yourself. The peace and happiness of God's one true faith cannot be found any other way. The only way is through the gospel of Jesus Christ, the way to access the atonement of only begotten of the Father.

How has attending Church services helped you?
The most glorious event of the church service is the Sacrament service. The Sacrament also may be known as what is commonly called the Communion by other faiths. The church usually uses bread and water to represent the body and blood of Christ. The Priesthood are men that have the authority and the blessing of setting up and administering it. As I set up and put it away, I think of myself as preparing the body of Jesus Christ for his tomb in humility.
Part of our covenants is to renew them each week by partaking of the broken bread and water. Covenants are deep abiding promises to be obedient to God’s will, so we may have eternal life, being cleansed from sin by the power of Jesus Christ’s atonement. If we endure to the end we are purified to dwell in our Heavenly Father’s Kingdom for eternity. Renewing our covenants on the Sabbath is to make sure we have his blessings, which is of great importance, especially to have the Gift of the Holy Ghost. These covenants entail faith, repentance, and the baptism of immersion and of the Holy Ghost by those who have been given authority of God, so we may have forgiveness of our sin. Receiving grace for such blessing is due upon our sincerity and best effort to total obedience.
Today, being the nineteenth of September of the year 2010, I was pondering during the Sacrament administration how I may for more fully keep myself cleansed from the world. I considered school, my relationship with god, and an action to change. Sometimes as I study I participate in some form of media to rest, and as I pondered this; the Holy Ghost put a idea, a prompting, and an invitation in my mind. The Idea was that I should not rely on media for rest; instead, I should rely on Christ for rest by studying the word of god, praying, and serving. As I received this invitation, deep in my heart I felt the warmth of the Holy Ghost, burning the sin from my soul. This experience was edifying, inspiring, testimony building, purifying, confirming of growth, and teaching for me. I know that feeling was the Spirit of God dwelling within my body as a temple of God. The testimony, knowledge, and belief is that this restored gospel of Jesus Christ is true and that the path the Holy Ghost shows is true. I feel it deep within my heart, a warm peaceful feeling, that this is true.
Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?
Prayer is a great blessing of God. It may be not used by others habitually, and it may not understood either. Prayer is communication with our God, the Father of all our spirits. Jesus Christ is the mediator between the Father and his children, so we close our prayers in his name after we say whatever we want to say to our Father in Heaven, whom we reverently address.
Since my mind wonders when I used to pray, for the past few months or so I have been writing out my prayers in a notebook. When I pray in the morning or before I go to sleep, I follow the counsel in which we are encouraged to have a continual flowing conversation of our daily activities and goals like speaking to your actual father. Since I have been writing my prayers, I have finished my first spiral notes book on New Year's eve with a full book of letters to my Father. That felt coincidental. Maybe it was a reminder to reflect on the past year, or perhaps God was hinting that I should graduate or get out of this practice; however, I am continuing to write my prayers in a journal, making an album of my letters to my Heavenly Father.
I feel a close relationship with God the Father and a composed openness in my communication with him. The fruits from prayer have been great in my life. Although I write my prayers, I often kneel down to pray afterward. My kneeling prayers often follow the words of my written prayer, but I further expand with a more composed brief prayer kneeling.
This past week, today being the 16 of January, I decided that the habit of writing out my prayers were like crutches. Now I feel strong enough to go without them.
How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?
Today, the Fourth of July 2010, I went to church, and our teacher did not show up. Since this was the case, we just shared some the spiritual experiences of the past week with one another. The first person spoke of an experience with the missionaries of our church, teaching someone the gospel. He spoke of how the Holy Ghost was revealing that restored gospel is truth. As they were speaking, the person, whom the spirit of god revealed the truth to, started making the connection with the doctrines of the church and everything made sense. The restored gospel offers answers to the answers to all the questions of the soul. I saw this in many people I taught on my service in Jamaica, a sense of well being and understanding. They lose doubt and receive the one true faith in Christ. This is a benefit of fearing nothing but God, a life without doubt, a life of the necessary understanding. This is one of the greatest fruits of my testimony of the restored gospel.
Can you talk about the missions of the Church and your participation in them?
The church has a three fold mission, and there is a fourth one that I just heard of this past week is not added to the saying the three fold mission, but there is a fourth. The three fold mission are as followed perfect the saints, preach the gospel, and redeem the dead fourth being care for the poor and needy. These are big missions that if received by the mortal children of god we will have worldwide harmony.
The church is all about the individual, and the spending the necessary effort to love and nourish each starving soul, providing the bread of life. When one visits the church, one will see the same thing, a teaching environment to uplift the individual, bearing one another’s burdens.
Preaching the Gospel is the symbol of the church. Each young man is commanded of god to sacrifice and consecrate two years of their life to the lord and the first two main missions I addressed. The purpose is “Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.” These missionaries male or female are to teach the gospel. Teaching the gospel is delightful for all who participate.
I seem to be writing too much to fit in the 3rd.
The fourth ofttimes impresses people is the organization of the church to support the needy throughout most of the world, answering the relief of people during disasters and in many aspects of life. One I wanted to talk about in the second paragraph is another mode of the Sacrament, which we call the fast and testimony meeting. Fasting is generally going without food and drink for two meals and donating at least what money we would have spent one the two meals as a fast offering to provide the means for the needy. The blessings are abundant spiritually and physically. The testimony part of the meeting is where we proclaim our witness of the restored gospel that this work is true, and I know it is.
How I live my faith
Returning from my mission I have had many opportunities to serve. When I serve in the community or in addressing a congregation, my purpose is to inspire them to be more united in the gospel of Jesus Christ. One thing I realized as I studied the talk 'Beware of Pride' by Ezra Taft Benson, a past prophet of the church, is that 'pride divides and humility bring unity'. This may seem obvious, but it is profound to me. I analyze my actions, if they are dividing me from my family or bring more harmony in the home.
It is a principle of unity in the which you actual do what your parents say for you to do. I learned from a scripture that says,"whosoever compel thee to go a mile go with him twain." This takes humility, and it shows love. I have seen many blessing from this especially it obeying the words of my parents. A past Mother's day gift or a gift that should be given today or perhaps you already have in days of the past it is a gift of peace and harmony in the home.
One story that can show that peace and happiness that comes from doing the will of your parents is of my mother. She wanted a pot garden, but no one had the time for her to plant her flowers and of course she can't do it herself. Sadly the plants I planted for her before my mission all died, but when I return I was able to plant many flowers for her. What is better a few flowers given on mother's day or a garden of a more eternal effect of peace and happiness?
The time we have with our parents is so short. I am nearly concluding my stay with mine. Lets seek to be more united in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the only way to true happiness. The fruits of little acts of unity with the will of your parents will have eternal blessings.
