I grew up not belonging to any church and now I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband, father, and an engineer. I love to play with my kids, read, listen to music, play board games, throw a Frisbee, bird-watch, hike, and play the ukulele.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the influence of some good friends. Growing up I had several friends that were Mormon and their goodness and devotion to their faith led me to invite myself to one of their church services. Once there I felt as if God spoke to me, telling me it was his church, and that he wished for me to become a part of it. And so I did.

What we pass through in our lives paints something of a picture. And my picture convinces me that there is a living God, that there is a Christ, that the Church of Jesus Christ is once again on the earth today, that there is a hereafter, and that the only way to obtain true and lasting happiness in this life and in the hereafter is by following the precepts of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Others may have pictures that lead them to the same conclusions, but their pictures will be very different from mine. We all pass through different paths that lead us to what we know and believe now. Someone else looking at my picture may not be convinced of what I am convinced. We all must take our own path to the truth.

How does making right choices help us make more right choices?

As we make good choices, we build confidence in our ability to make more good choices. Each good choice we make is one more memory we can draw upon to give us courage and strength to choose good again.

Please share your feelings/testimony of Joseph Smith.

Jesus Christ taught that he had not destroyed the prophets, and that as many as had not been fulfilled, would be (3 Nephi 15:6). Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, similar to biblical prophets such as Moses and Paul. Through him The Church of Jesus Christ and the divine authority to lead that church was restored to the earth. I am grateful for the increased understanding of the gospel that accompanied that restoration.

What blessings have come through your faith in Jesus Christ?

Peace and happiness. Prophets have taught that happiness in life is most likely to be found through the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Men are that they might have joy (2 Nephi 2:25). And what Christ has done for us through the atonement can and should bring us joy. God's plan of happiness can and should help us endure well this life and find peace and joy here and in the hereafter.

How I live my faith

I am a mission leader in my congregation. I teach a Sunday school class and I help find and teach those in my community who have an interest in the gospel of Jesus Christ. I try to live my life according to the teachings of Jesus Christ and share those teachings with others when given the opportunity.

What do Mormons believe about "eternal life?"

Eternal life means God's life, to live as he lives, which is something different than immortality. All shall obtain immortality through Jesus Christ while only those who embrace his gospel can obtain eternal life.

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

Modesty is almost a precursor for chastity. They are the built upon the doctrine of the sanctity of our body. By being modest in our actions and dress we outwardly show our understanding that we, as a soul, are more than just an object to be flaunted. Our body is a gift from God and he has asked us to save intimacy until after we are married. We show respect for him and ourselves if we hold off until marriage and always dress and act modestly. This principle can be taught to children through example, first and foremost, but also by being honest and explaining to them the importance of it and why we are asked to live it. Use the Holy Ghost as your guide as you teach your children.
