Chat With a Mormon Online
I’m just a simple guy who loves to spend time with my family. I like to make people laugh and try to help other people as much as I can and make the world a better place. I find that there’s a lot to be happy about in life, because of the Savior. My faith in Him has given me peace and joy.
I was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As many young men in the church do, I was planning on being a missionary after High School. As that time approached, I realized that I had really better be sure if I was going to dedicate myself like that for two years. It had always felt right, but I didn’t have the sure knowledge that I felt like I should have. So I did exactly what the missionaries invite people to do: I began to read the Book of Mormon with a real purpose, and prayed sincerely to God to let me know for myself. The promise in the Book of Mormon is amazing – if your really want to know, and if you are sincere and actually read it, and think about it, and pray about it, you will feel the Holy Ghost confirm that it is true. With all the confusion in the world, God will let us know the truth! So I was really giving it a lot of effort. And I found myself feeling very happy and warm as I read and prayed. Then, at one point while I was reading, I felt overcome with a powerful feeling in my heart, that even brought me to tears (amazing for me)! The feelings the Holy Spirit conveys – peace, joy, and love – filled me, and I knew for myself. I’ll never forget that experience, and I thank God for it.
A great verse in the Book of Mormon states that “men are, that they might have joy.” Reading the Book of Mormon has helped me understand that life is no accident. Rather, a loving Heavenly Father sent us here for a wonderful experience. It places the events of life in perspective for me, and helps me see what is really important and what is not. My faith really does bring me joy, and a hope of glorious things to come.
For me, it all boils down to this: I do my best to always remember the Savior. In return, I believe that I’ll be blessed with the Holy Spirit more and more. Remembering the Savior means studying His teachings, humbling myself before Him, praying in His name, and trying to keep His commandments. As I improve in those things, He blesses me with greater faith, peace, understanding, and joy.
