Hi, I'm Adam
I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I'm a father of 8 kids and happily married to the love of my life. I work in the I.T. field because I love computers. I also coach baseball and have been since I was 18 years old. I played baseball all of my life through Jr. College. I was invited to play on a Professional Single A team but decided to get on with my life, and so I walked away without knowing if I would have made the team.
I love to read, watch movies, BBQ, cook, play board and card games, blog, play fantasy football, play softball, fix computers and serve in my church and community.
Why I am a Mormon
I grew up Catholic and have a deep respect for the great Christian foundation I built as a member of that church but I eventually became disenchanted with it and stopped affiliating myself when I was about 16 or 17.
One late night at about 3 AM I was up watching TV and a commercial came on that asked me what I was doing with my life and whether I knew that God had a plan for me. I was 20 years old at the time and was feeling down about the direction my life had taken. The commercial offered to send me a free video explaining Heavenly Father's plan for me. So I called right then and requested it. A little bit later two Mormon missionaries knocked on my door with the video and an invitation to listen to a message they had for me. At that moment, I was not ready to listen to them but just a few months later I was and when I did, I quickly accepted and rejoiced over their message. I was baptized into the church on March 8, 1992.
While I have left out about 90% of the events that happened to me during my conversion, I would have to write a book to describe everything else that happened. I will say this though... I had much opposition as I began to search the gospel and when I decided to get baptized. It was a miracle that I stayed strong. I had a friend from high school who is a member of the church and he told me after I got baptized that I was one of the last persons he thought would ever join the church.
Now I am a returned missionary and sealed in the temple to a righteous daughter of God.
I can't imagine my life without God and His church. I love my Savior and I feel that I know him better now than I ever have before. I know that I am not perfect, but I know that someday I will be with him and my Heavenly Father again.
Personal Stories
What is hope and what do you hope for?
Growing up, I wanted to be a professional baseball player. That is all that mattered to me. When I found the gospel and joined the church, much changed about what I hoped for in my life.
I had the opportunity to play at the professional level in baseball but I walked away from it because my goals and hopes had changed. I no longer cared about playing pro baseball and instead felt that I should move to Utah and start my life. That decision later led me to serving a mission for my church. I served in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Now, I am not saying that this is the decision for everyone. I don't mean that playing pro baseball is a wrong thing. It just wasn't right for me.
Now my hope is that I can raise my family in the gospel. I want to be able to provide for them and allow them to have sufficient for their needs. My hope is that I can serve wherever I am needed. I want to give back as much as I can for what I have been given since I joined the church.
My greatest hope is to one day return to live with my Father in Heaven and my Savior.
How I live my faith
I enjoy going to church every week with my wife and 8 kids. It gives me so much joy to teach my children about the gospel and especially about the Savior. We have pictures of him in every room of our house and my children know who he is and what he did for us.
In church, I currently serve as the Ward Clerk. I help make sure all the records both membership and financial are dealt with correctly. I am enjoying this calling immensely mostly because I get to play on the computer for it.
I also serve in the Los Angeles Temple as a veil worker.
I love to teach, especially when it comes to the youth. They are so fun to be around and I love to see them progress and grow in life.
I enjoy watching them learn about the gospel. I amazed at how much the youth love and respect spiritual things. They teach me so much by their example and their willingness to learn and serve. I think I learn more from them as their teacher then they do.
I have served in my community as a baseball coach for about 20 years now and I also served on a board of directors for a local Little League. I try to stay as involved as I can with community concerns and political activities. My goal is to try to bring people together and work with our strengths instead of disagreeing all the time.
