Why I am a Mormon

If you are not a member of the Church, it's understandable that you will find it really strange and foreign. Believe me, I know how you feel ;) I investigated it with my mom for about 4 months. I've learned for myself that Moroni's promise is true. I read The Book of Mormon and asked God if it is His word; if Joseph Smith Jr. was really called by Him and if this Church is the same Church that the Savior established when He was on the earth. I read..I prayed.. and attended Church. I also went to seminary and Church activities. I observed everyone and listened to their testimonies. Most of all, I listened to my own feelings and thoughts as I searched for the truth. It took me a while but I received the answer by the power of the Holy Ghost that everything that the missionaries taught me is true. The feeling was something I can't even describe; but I just knew it in my heart that He heard and answered my prayers. This testimony that I received has changed my entire life..and this is the reason WHY I'm a Mormon and will ALWAYS be a Mormon.

How does making right choices help us make more right choices?

Making right choices make you feel good..and because of that, everytime you will be faced in deciding about something, you will always remember the time you made a right choice. By doing this, you will have that motivation to choose the right because you know how happy you are the time you did so.

Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?

I believe sharing the Gospel is not something we should wait for..it is something we need to seek in doing. I don't really have a difficult time sharing my belief about the Gospel to my friends because it is something I enjoy talking about. I don't know!..but I think when you are enjoying what you are doing..and you are learning and happy, it just comes out naturally from you as you speak or even on your actions. Sometimes it's really not easy and there are awkward situations too, but I know if we will strive to share it to EVERYONE, it will eventually be easier and fulfilling :) The Lord promised us that the words will be given to us the very hour we need them. The message of the Restoration is the most important message we can ever share to our brothers and sisters.

Please share your feelings/testimony of the Restoration of the Gospel.

God hears and answers our prayers. He did answer mine. I know for myself that the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr was a true prophet of God. Through him the fulness of the Gospel has been restored on the earth again. The Priesthood of the Lord was bestowed upon him by the original apostles of Jesus Christ, and from then on until now, it is possessed by the Priesthood holders of this Church. I know, that the Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ and through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, the Prophet Joseph Smith translated it from the gold plates where the ancient prophets recorded the commandments of God. I know that we have a living Prophet in this latter-days, President Thomas S. Monson. Jesus Christ Himself is the Head of this Church. He lived to show us the way, and died to redeem us from our sins. His love is unconditional. He is my Savior and I am eternally gratefuI for all the things He did and is doing for me. I know HE LIVES. I know that this Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is His earthly Kingdom here on earth, once again established and never to be taken again, to prepare us for His second coming. Lastly, I know that YOU CAN KNOW this FOR YOURSELF. God is real. Search Him..He is waiting for you!

Why do Mormons go on missions?

Ever since I became a member of the Church, missionary work has been a great part of my life. Because of it, I came to know the restored Gospel. I've always wanted to become a missionary of God. Once a person understand and feel the love that goes with the Atonement of the Savior Jesus Christ, he or she won't be able to just keep it to his/herself..but he or she will have that strong desire to share it to all the people in the world..our brothers and sisters. That's the reason why Mormon missionaries are scattered all throughout the world..to bring and share the truth we found to show Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ how much we love Them and are willing to help Them build Their kingdom here on earth and seek for Their lost sheep..guiding them back to the fold. BEING A MISSIONARY OF GOD IS ONE OF THE GREATEST THINGS I WILL NEVER FORGET IN MY ENTIRE LIFE..!

How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?

Knowing that my life didn't just start when I was born here on earth, that I lived with my Heavenly Father before the world was..and that I am here on earth for a purpose, and that there's a life after death..that I can go back to His presence once again through the Savior Jesus Christ and His atonement, and my obedience to His commandments with my earthly family, gives me comfort and peace that He loves me, and that I need to pattern my life according to His will. Realizing that I am a daughter of God helps me see myself the way He sees me.

In what ways have your prayers been answered?

There are so many ways that my prayers have been answered. Recently in my life as a full-time missionary, answers came through the scriptures whenever I read them, from someone that I know who will say something and last but not the least, promptings of the Holy Ghost. I am so grateful for these different ways that God uses in answering my prayers.

How has the Holy Ghost helped you?

The Holy Ghost has always been there whenever I need comfort when I'm down, prompts me on things and choices that I need to take and warns me of danger. He's a great companion in missionary work and in everyday matters!

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?

The teaching of the Savior Jesus Christ that really influenced and changed my life is repentance and how it is tied back to His Atonement. Through the Savior's infinite love and mercy, the gift of repentance became available to all who will reach out their hands to the Savior's extended arms. I am one of those rescued souls I could say. Choices that I made before and after joining the Church that pained my soul and gave sorrow and heartache to me were relieved by this miracle of forgiveness. I guess the funny thing about me is that I get so guilty even in the smallest thing..but it also makes me feel good because it is a great warning for me not to commit bigger mistakes. I love to follow Him and His path. I feel so much peace and joy whenever I repent each day. I am so grateful for this wonderful gift. Truly, without the Savior we will be left hopeless in this world. Let us repent more each day!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to be an example in everything that I do. No one is perfect and I have a lot to improve on myself. I am proud to let everyone know that I am a Mormon. My relatives..friends..co-workers..they know my faith and beliefs. I look for opportunities to share my testimony with them. I made a covenant with my Heavenly Father that I will not compromise my standards to please others. I stand for what I know to be right even though it makes me feel alone most of the time. But Heavenly Father makes me feel that no matter what happens, He and the Savior are always there to back me up.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Jesus Christ taught that baptism is essential to the salvation of all who have lived on earth. Many people, however, have died without being baptized. Others were baptized without proper authority. Because God is merciful, He has prepared a way for all people to receive the blessings of baptism. By performing proxy baptisms in behalf of those who have died, Church members offer these blessings to deceased ancestors. Individuals can then choose to accept or reject what has been done in their behalf.

As a temple ordinance worker for the Mesa Temple for the past 5 years, I have grown in appreciation for the temple and the ordinances that are preformed. I believe that those who have passed-on are given the opportunity to accept the work that is performed in their behalf as if they were here - physically. The initial ordinance of accepting Jesus Christ is baptism. The ordinance of baptism is performed as it was originally by John the Baptist for Jesus in the temple by emersion. The temple gives those that have passed-on the opportunity to accept the mission of Jesus Christ and all the ordinances that he performed.

What do Mormons believe happens after we die?

We were so very sad when our very special eleven year old grandson died in 2009. He suffered from life threatening asthma from birth and was often in hospital. He caught a virus which attacked his heart causing it to go into a dangerous rhythm, which eventually stopped his heart. Every attempt was made to save him but to no avail. The night he died, I thought I might die too - I was so overcome with grief. I was grieving not only for him but for our daughter and her family too. I received enormous comfort from my family and friends, especially those in the church and the outpouring of love and support was indescribable. However, the most comfort I received was my knowledge that I absolutely knew that we would see him again in the next life and that our family would be together forever in the eternities. I was also comforted to know that our grandson would be free from his health problems and be able to have peace. Even though I miss him terribly, I know he is happy and with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I feel his spirit around me often. I know with total conviction that the Lord has unconditionally supported all of our family through this trial and continues to do so daily.
