Hi, I'm Cherilyn
I'm a recent college graduate. I love to laugh and I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I just graduated with my degree in social work from BYU-Idaho. I love to read all sorts of books!
Why I am a Mormon
I'm a Mormon because my parents are Mormon. Honestly though, the Gospel is so familiar to me. Every time I learn something new I feel like I knew it before. I stayed a member after I left home because of that. I am also a member because I know God is so real and He LOVES us! I don't know where I'd be without that.
Personal Stories
In what ways have your prayers been answered?
My prayers have been answered in so many ways. I felt like I was supposed to be in my hometown this summer rather then spending it off at college and so that is where I was. Everyday I was praying for me to know why I was supposed to be at home. I found one part of the reason when I was reading letters my father wrote to his parents when I was a little girl. I discovered so much about myself. But I still didn't feel satisfied with that being my only reason for being there. I continued to pray about it and didn't discover any other reason before I went back to school. Then through two different people who said things either directly to me or to my dad, I learned the other reason I was supposed to be at home.
Could you talk about your baptism?
I was 8 years old when I got baptized. But even then I knew it was something that was very important for me to do. I was scared going into the baptismal font because I thought it was going to be cold, but it wasn't. All of my friends and family were there and they were all excited and happy for me. They sang church hymns and gave talks on the importance of baptism.
I remember knowing that I was cleansed my all my sin. That day I remember having to go and repent because I probably yelled at one of my siblings for something. I wanted so desperately to stay as perfect as I was when I came out of the water.
Basically my baptism is probably the best thing I have ever done in my whole life. Just remembering it gives me perspective on what I should be doing in my life to try to be the best I can be now.
Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?
Prayer plays a huge part in my life. I do not make big decisions without praying about them. I pray every day many many times. I have had so many of my prayers answered. I know that every one of my prayers are heard. I know this because I know Heavenly Father loves me.
Think about your everyday activities. What are things you act upon each day where you cannot see the end results? How does faith move you to action?
Well everyday I pray. I do not see answers to my prayers immediately very often. I don't know when the answers will come but from experience I know that I have gotten answers. I have the faith that my prayers will be answered and that is what keeps me going everyday.
The other things that keep me going is doing the little things that I feel like I need to do. They can be such a little things that I didn't even notice until I was looking back and realized what I did was a blessing for either me or someone I cared about, or someone in general. I wasn't able to see what the end results were until after when I had to reflect on it.
How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?
The Plan of Happiness has benefited my life because whenever someone I know and love passes away. I know that this life is not the end for them. I know that I will be able to see them again. It is such a comforting thing.
How has attending Church services helped you?
Attending Church services have helped me because I found answers to questions I didn't realize I had or I hadn't been asking in a while. I have found answers to questions that were doctrinally based and also ones that were about my future. One of these experiences happened not that long ago when I felt the Spirit's prompting to do something that will change my life forever in a big way.
How I live my faith
I go to church every Sunday and I read from the Book of Mormon daily. I also stregthen my relationship with my Heavenly Father everyday through prayer. I need all of those things to keep going. I love the Gospel so much!!! They mean everything to me.
