I am a husband, a father and a follower of Jesus Christ. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a recent graduate with a degree in accounting. I enjoy snowboarding, scuba diving, travel, reading, running, hiking and photography. I love reading the teachings of our Savior Jesus Christ and am striving to live them every day. My wife and I recently brought home our first child, a beautiful little girl. I know that families are eternal and that as my family and I follow Christ's teachings we will be together forever.

Why I am a Mormon

In my youth I tried hard to not be associated with the Mormons because they weren't viewed as cool or popular. As soon as I realized what being a Mormon has to offer I didn't care what other people thought anymore. Since I began attending church and living the principles that are taught in the Book of Mormon I have found happiness that cannot be attained anywhere else, trust me I've looked. My happiness has come through serving others, learning and following the examples of Christ and starting a family. I know that Christ loves each of us and wishes that we all come unto Him and find true happiness.

How I live my faith

I have had the opportunity to serve in the church in many different aspects. I have taught the youth, worked with Boy Scouts and am currently assisting with the membership records in our local area. There are many opportunities to serve and in every one joy is found in knowing that others are benefiting from your time and effort.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

As a Mormon I believe that society is based on the fundamentals of a family. Individuals join to become families and families join geographically to become a community and society. If the family that a society is built upon fails then a society is weakened and when our society becomes weak we begin to lose freedoms, including freedom to worship, and pray and attend meetings all of which bring us more happiness. Families therefore = Happiness.

We believe that our families are the basic unit of any society, and that failure in the home means that we've failed as a nation and a people. We've heard that it takes a village to raise a child, and that's true enough. But our leaders have told us that the most important work we can do in life, even more than any professional pursuits, is to raise our children in righteousness.

Think about it. If each father and mother were just a little more engaged in their family's lives i'm not talking about controlling their family, helping their sons and daughters with the challenges they constantly face, the crises we find ourselves in as a nation would become much less. We'd more good in the world as a result. You may think that naive or unrealistic, but I know how much good one family can cause, and how much pain another can cause. We want to change the world, and to do that we need to change ourselves and help our families become better too.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Latter-day Saints are all expected to generously give of their time to serve in the church. Service opportunities vary greatly and can include being a congregation's pastor, teaching classes, helping congregants gain employment, or helping watch toddlers in the nursery. These volunteer opportunities are temporary and Mormons often gain a wide variety of experiences throughout their lifetimes. Specific assignments are not sought after, but rather delegated out to a congregation's members after those presiding over the congregation have prayed over the matter.

No one participating in this service is compensated financially, as we all are personally committed to help one another and assist in the church's growth. I believe that this way of organizing a church is ideal because it allows congregants to become closely acquainted with one another through service, frees up funds given to the church to go to more important projects such as building chapels and advancing missionary efforts, and greatly reduces any potential for corruption in the church by removing financial incentives.
