Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I have come to know for myself - through much study and prayer, that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's true Church here upon the earth, today.

How has the Holy Ghost helped you?

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints claim *The Gift of the Holy Ghost* as they choose to be baptized into the Church, and live the teachings of Jesus Christ. We consider this our most cherished covenant relationship, in this life...

For me, *The Holy Ghost* is a very personal friend. I know that I can seek inspiration for every important part of my life, through prayer -- and then listening for that still small voice that will show and teach me what I need to know or do in any situation.

Please share your feelings/testimony of Joseph Smith.

I hold dear to my heart, my own personal testimony of the prophet, Joseph Smith Jr. That testimony has developed over my life, as I have come to know, line upon line, that the gospel of Jesus Christ, as taught in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is God's authorized Church here upon the earth -- in these Last Days. A few years ago, I had the blessing and privilege of teaching LDS Church History to a group of high school aged youth. I came to know and better understand "Brother Joseph" in a way, that I had never known before. I can truly say, that I love Joseph Smith. I am grateful for his life, his service, his teachings - and for his willingness to seal his testimony of these truths, with his own blood. It is through my personal testimony of the truthfulness of The Book of Mormon, as an authentic record brought forth by the prophet, Joseph Smith, that my testimony STANDS. It is a glorious book -- as are the many revelations brought forth by the young prophet, of God. I look forward to the day, that I can thank Joseph Smith, for his devotion to the Lord, as he fulfilled his mission as prophet of the restoration.

Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?

I share the gospel with others by being a good example of the things I believe to be true. I particularly enjoy sharing the gospel online, by answering questions about my faith, that others are seeking to understand.

How I live my faith

I live my faith each day by doing my best to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. I have a testimony of the restored Gospel, as found in the LDS Church and delight in teaching my children, grandchildren, etc... the principles of the Gospel and encouraging them to live these teachings that they, too - may find joy and happiness in this life and in the next...

What is being a Mormon like?

It's wonderful! There are so many confusing and conflicting messages in the world today, and knowing that the counsel I receive through living prophets is exactly what my Heavenly Father would have me know in order to navigate this life successfully, is such a comfort.

I've been an active member of the Church for about 33 years now. I've been married for 32 of those years and we have raised our five children with the teachings of the LDS Church. I can honestly say that the joy and blessings that these years have brought are a direct result of making the choice to follow the Savior and live His teachings.

Today, I love being a "Nana" and watching my own children share the Gospel with their young families. It is a joy knowing that true happiness in this life is found in our families, as we strive to teach them and be an example of righteous living.

Being a Mormon is more than just having membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints... It is living those teachings each day of our lives and coming to know for ourselves the joy and happiness of making righteous choices.

Being a Mormon is like being yourself but you will find more happiness through the gospel of Jesus Christ so you will a better yourself you won’t want to do the things you know are wrong. People will know that you are following Christ and they will respect you for that even if they tease you about it at first. You don’t have to change your personality but you will change the way you look at life and find more respect and love for Christ and what He did for you and for me.

Who founded Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

I went on a bicycle ride one day with a friend of another faith. He was a believing Christian but told me as we rode that he believed churches and organized religion are unnecessary and that the best way to find truth is to look everywhere. He bought into the notion that there are "many ways to the top of a mountain."

I think there's truth in that view, too. I believe that God wants us to find truth everywhere we can get it. And yet something nagged at me about his view. As we hit the steeper part of our ride, I said, "I think that's a cop out." (We have a pretty comfortable relationship - we talk pretty bluntly with each other). "If there is a God, don't you think He'd have an opinion about what's right and what's wrong? And don't you think He would have a plan for His children? And finally, don't you think He'd want us to know the truth about that plan? If so, how can you believe He would not create some credible and organized way to help us figure out what is true?"

Throughout history that way has been to reveal the truth through prophets. As my friend and I spoke he saw more clearly that there was no reasonable argument for why God would say, "2000 years ago prophets were a really good idea. But today I changed my mind."

Joseph Smith did what prophets always do. He revealed new scripture that confirms all that we had before. He restored God's full Gospel. And he pointed us to Christ. I know Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. And now my friend does, too.
