Elizabeth: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Elizabeth

I grew up in Canada. I am a University Student. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I have grown up in the church my whole life and have felt the blessings that come from doing that. I am currently going to University to obtain a degree in Music Education and am loving every minute of it!I love music whether I am playing, singing, or listening to it. I hope to one day conduct choirs at a High School level but in the meantime enjoy teaching piano lessons to about 4 students during the school year. I also am an avid snowboarder in the winters and enjoy going on ski trips with friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

I have grown up in the church my whole life and have been blessed to have parents that taught and encouraged me to live by its principles. As a reached my teenage years I began to really question why I went to church . . . was it really for me or was it just because i wanted to keep my parents happy? I knew that when I went to church I felt at ease and it was a safe place where I could learn and grow. I began to search the scriptures more diligently and read the Book of Mormon through again so I could really feel of what the gospel could bring to me. This continued for a few months and I didn't really feel any big revelation or answer hit me. It wasn't until I bore my testimony in a meeting that I received my answer. It didn't come to me in a grand or shocking manner. It came through the quiet whisperings of the spirit and by saying my testimony out loud, confirming that I had always known this was where I was supposed to be and the doctrines found here were true. I may not have the most exciting or life changing moment of conversion but for me it was what I needed to know. I am so thankful for this church and the light it brings to my life. I am able to develop a relationship with my Saviour and have his guidance in my life daily as long as I allow him to do so. I continue to learn everyday and strive to become more like the Lord everyday. I know that as I live righteously I will be able to return to him and experience true happiness in this life and the one to come.

Personal Stories

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

Prayer is a daily thing that goes on in my life. I have found its power to be even more constant in my life this year as a moved away to school. Before I went away to school prayer was something that I did in the morning and when I retired to bed. They were sometimes very repetitious and not a lot of thought would go into them. I would ask for things, thank Heavenly Father for my blessings and continue with my day. When I moved away to school the meaning of prayer to me changed quite drastically. I was in a new place, my program was very overwhelming and I felt very alone. I found myself saying the smallest of prayers in my heart asking to just help me get through a lesson, class or even the next 10 minutes of my day. I found more and more that prayer became a constant and personal communication with my Heavenly Father. The comfort and peace that even the tiniest of my prayers would bring was enough to give me the courage to keep going. i know that I could not have gotten through my first semester without the constant support of my Heavenly Father and the opportunity to talk with him about the weaknesses and fears I was experiencing. I know that prayer can be a powerful tool in anyones life. Even if you feel like it is the silliest fear or too trivial Heavenly Father will always be listening and waiting to reach out and help you.

Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?

I try to share the gospel with my friends because of the joy and happiness that it brings to my life! I want them to receive the same blessings and guidance that I have because this life is hard. When my friends do ask me questions about the church I try answer them the best I can so they can understand what the gospel is really all about

How I live my faith

While I am home for the summer I have to wonderful opportunity to teach a class of nine year old girls every Sunday. We are learning from stories in the Old Testament this year and are having lots of learning experiences. These girls are amazing in their knowledge of the gospel already and are always striving to do good things and be examples. They ask wonderful questions and each lesson is an uplifting experience for everyone.
During the school year I go to a YSA ward, which stands for Young Single Adult. Single members ages 18-30 attend these wards whether they are going to school or working. In my YSA I serve as a Family Home Evening FHE Assistant. For those of you who are not familiar with Family Home Evening it is a designated time on Monday nights where families are supposed to gather together and spend time with one another. The family is such an important part of our church so our leaders have counselled us to us this time to teach the gospel to our families and strengthen our family ties. Usually there is a lesson followed by an activity and if your really lucky a fun treat! Since I am in a YSA ward and don't have a family of my own at this time our bishop splits the wards up into groups and those groups meet together every Monday. Some of my favourite FHEs have been playing games, going sledding and playing ultimate frisbee out in the park.
