About Me

I'm a recent college graduate and will be starting my new career in accounting. I grew up in the Northeast but had the wonderful privilege of coming to Texas to study. I love swimming, meeting new people, trying out new places to eat, and learning foreign languages!

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know that I am a daughter of God and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church of God. I know that Jesus Christ established our Church and the organization of the Church today is designed by our Heavenly Father. I am also a Mormon because I believe that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that through His sacrifice, I can be washed clean of my sins and become more like Him.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by doing all that I can in my Church assignment to help others grow in their faith. Currently, I serve as the President of the Latter-day Saint Student Association on campus. The officer board and I have made great strides in sharing our faith with others. I also live my faith by being a devoted visiting teacher. Visiting teaching is a program in our Church's Women's organization where we get to know one another to better serve each other, and we do this through meeting with individual women monthly. I make sure I visit the women I'm assigned to every month and do all that I can do be a good friend.

What are some of the ways that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helps those around the world?

I had the opportunity to see first hand how the Gospel has changed lives in every way. I served for the church in South America and saw that the teachings of the gospel helped countless individuals in financial crises, relationship problems, health issues, quality of life, personal happiness, political and social issues, and every imaginable aspect in life. I saw people with addictions overcome them and change their lives. I saw the jobless gain work through help of the Lord and help of the church. I saw marriages improved and even saved. I witnessed the sick and inflicted cured through faith. And so, to answer what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does to help those around the world, I would testify that it blesses lives in every aspect.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provides humanitarian service in many different ways. For instance, members living in Salt Lake City give of their time to assemble hygiene kits and relief kits to help those who have been the recent victims of natural disasters. These kits, along with food, first aid, and other necessities are rushed to the scenes of disaster all over the world. The Church works with communities that do not have sources of clean water to help them establish disease-free water sources, as well as teaching them principles of hygiene and maintenance that will keep their water clean. The Church has organized a training program to teach neonatal resuscitation to medical professionals all over the world, thus helping to prevent many unnecessary newborn deaths. The Church provides training, equipment, and supplies to eye care professionals and clinics in many poorer countries to help them prevent unnecessary blindness. The Church has an immunization program that helps to get much needed vaccines to children worldwide who might otherwise die of preventable diseases. There is another program run by The Church that helps to teach those in third world countries how to grow and preserve the food they need to be able to feed their families. Because we in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe that all people are brothers and sisters, we seek to help those in need regardless of their location, ethnicity, and/or religious beliefs.

Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

We follow the example of Jesus Christ, who was baptized by immersion by John the Baptist. Being baptized is a symbol of faith, as it represents the burying of old sins, old ways and old habits, and taking on the name of Jesus Christ. We are "buried" in the water, which represents the environment of the past, and therefore we must be lifted up in order to survive. That lifting up represents our being lifted up by Christ, out of the past, and into the great promises and blessings of being one with Christ. When we come out of the water, we are symbolically a new person in Christ.
