Hi, I'm Amy
About Me
I'm a wife and mother of two cute boys that keep me very busy! I stay at home and love that I get to soak up all the little moments of my boys development. I have a B.S. in Marriage, Family, Human Development and will eventually go back to school to get my masters in Marriage Therapy or another similar behavior science field. For now, I consider myself in my practicum, not sure how I am fairing. :) I enjoy being outdoors and spending time with my family.
Why I am a Mormon
My conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was not an event but a process. It started in my youth as I read the Book of Mormon on my own. I felt the help that our Heavenly Father offered us through his holy scriptures. As I read and pondered and prayed and lived my awkward teenage years, I found very personal solutions to problems that I faced. I began to realize that there was a loving God who knew me personally and wanted to help me through the trials of life.
I love The LDS Church because the doctrines don't change with the will and desires of men and society. There are expectations that God has given from the beginning and those same expectations still exist within the doctrine of The LDS Chuch. There is protection in living what is right. I believe the President of this church is a Prophet of God, who tells us his will and will direct us in what we need to do to be happy. I know this because I am happy when I follow the prophet, my life has meaning and purpose.
Personal Stories
How has the Book of Mormon helped you understand the purpose of life?
I have read The Book of Mormon numerous times in my life. Currently my husband and I are doing what I refer to as a "speed read". We are trying to finish it in 2 months. When reading it this way I have seen the themes of the Book of Mormon over and over again. The Book of Mormon teaches of Jesus Christ and his role as our Redeemer, I don't think that there is a reading that goes by that we don't read about the need for repentance and reliance upon our Savior. The Book of Mormon also teaches us how to live in order to find true happiness, in spite of trials. I learn how to prioritize my desires, follow God's commandments and there will be much better things to come, however if I choose to not follow God's commandments...well, I'd rather just follow. I say that in jest, however it's true, I've learned that Heavenly Father's commandments are for our well being, just as we give our own children rules of safety so has our Heavenly Father. It's not for him it's for us and we get to decide which route to follow. This is the time to prepare to reunite with our God.
I've been doing a self evaluation lately and identifying some of my pride issues. I'm learning as I read The Book of Mormon how I want to be defined. Do I want to be defined as wealthy (if I was) or fashionable (obviously not, look at my profile picture :) ), or by the activities that my children are in, no. I'm realizing that it's best to be grateful and "God-fearing" , and to be defined by the way I live my life than by the things that I have or have accomplished.
How I live my faith
My faith plays the biggest role in how I live. I live my faith in my home first as I try to be a good example of Christian values to my children. I practice patience and charity on a daily basis! I also enjoy trying to be a good neighbor to members of my church and those who are not. As a church assignment I am in charge of helping people understand the importance of being prepared for emergencies however I have also been assigned many other "jobs" (without pay of course) throughout my membership. My favorite was as a seminary teacher to the youth. I prepared lessons every day for high school aged youth. These awesome kids would show up at my door at 5:45am to be taught the gospel of Jesus Christ. What a blessing to all of us to start our day with the truth to protect us.
