Hi, I'm Rebekka
I'm a medical student and I hope to treat mental illness in underserved communities. I'm a Mormon.
About Me
I'm a medical student and I'm also pursuing my PhD in neuroscience in western New York. I'm single and I live with a few roommates who are also LDS. I serve in the Relief Society presidency of my singles branch.
Why I am a Mormon
I have a rich family history in the Church, going back, on some lines, to the very founding of the church in Western New York. Although that's how I came to the church, and how I'm 'culturally Mormon,' it is not why I am faithfully and spiritually Mormon. I'm Mormon because the Holy Spirit has told me that it is the truth. I'm Mormon because I know that even if every other Mormon stopped being Mormon, I would still be Mormon and try to become the best Mormon I can be. I'm Mormon because I believe God loves us, and I believe He sent His Son to redeem all mankind, and I believe He restored the church in these days and sends us prophets.
Personal Stories
How has the Holy Ghost helped you?
The Holy Ghost has helped me in every single area of my life. First, the Holy Ghost sustains me and comforts me. Second, I receive personal revelation about decisions in my life and truths I must know through the spirit. The Holy Ghost testifies of truth, particularly of the divinity of Jesus Christ. Third, the Holy Ghost leads me to do good and bless the lives of others. The beauty of having the Spirit in my life inspires me to be better and to act worthily of that companionship. Finally, when I have the Holy Ghost with me, I see everything with a better perspective.
How I live my faith
I think the main way we live our faith is found in how we relate to other people. If we truly have faith in Christ and our Heavenly Father, then it naturally follows that we have faith that every person we see is a child of God, and our spiritual brother or sister-- and they are also someone who can be redeemed through Christ. I want to live my faith best by loving others; I crave developing charity, the pure love of Christ.
I also try to live my faith in my education. I'm studying to become a physician, and I try to see the beauty in creation as I learn. I also try to keep myself always oriented to serving God's children. I would also like to be a wife and mother.
Living my faith also requires steady devotion, which I think ultimately helps us to build charity and self-discipline. I live my faith by trying to serve as best I can in my calling, and by attending my meetings and trying to always do better at keeping God's commandments.
