About Me

I'm into gadgets and computers so that's what I'm studying in college. I love to read so much that I work at a book store. For fun I play tennis, lacrosse, and ride my bike on dirt trails. I wind down by watching movies or playing video games with my friends.

Why I am a Mormon

It gives my life direction. The peace that comes from the Gospel can get me through any struggle that comes my way. I believe in God with all my heart and that knowledge is founded on hundreds of answered prayers and times where God has helped me in a time of need.

I believe that God can speak to us through feelings of peace and joy and inspiration through thoughts. I feel those feelings and receive those thoughts as I read the scriptures, pray, and strive to live right. It's as simple as that. When I do those things I feel closer to my Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ and that brings me happiness, no matter what storms life brings. That's why I'm a Mormon.

Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?

Because of how much better my life is because of it! I can't imagine my life without the gospel - that's why I share it, just like you'd tell your friend about a great concert, or a good deal, or anything else like that.

How I live my faith

I have 4 other members that I'm responsible for visiting each month and try to be someone they can count on when they need help (called "hometeaching"). I also am responsible for organizing lessons for our weekly church meetings and coordinating hometeaching visits for the other members.

  • Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

    At various times, the Lord has commanded His people to practice plural marriage. For example, He gave this command to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, and Solomon (Doctrine and Covenants 132:1). At other times the Lord has given other instructions. In the Book of Mormon, the Lord told the prophet Jacob “for there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife: and concubines he shall have none... for if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things” (Jacob 2:27-30).

    In this dispensation, the Lord commanded some of the early Saints to practice plural marriage. The Prophet Joseph Smith and those closest to him, including Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball, were challenged by this command, but they obeyed it. Church leaders regulated the practice. Those entering into it had to be authorized to do so, and the marriages had to be performed through the sealing power of the priesthood. In 1890, President Wilford Woodruff received a revelation that the leaders of the Church should cease teaching the practice of plural marriage (Official Declaration 1).

    The Lord’s law of marriage is monogamy unless he commands otherwise to help establish the House of Israel (see Encyclopedia of Mormonism Vol. 3, pp. 1091-1095).
