Why I am a Mormon

When I was younger I Knew That I was missing something from my life. I remember I would try to fill my life with things that mattered to the world like Money, Possessions etc, But I never was happy. Until one day I final decided to read the Book of Mormon after reading it I felt the kind of happiness that always stayed with me threw out the day, I remember I finally prayed to know if what I was taught my whole life was true, felt it in my heart that it was true it came like a calm feeling of relief. After I knew it was true I began to change my attitude about me about people and my god, and I know it is true that Book of Mormon as well as the Bible are scripture. and that we have Prophets who speak to god and helps what we can do to find happiness. the gospel of Jesus Christ means so much to me that I never want to do anything that my Savior would not want me to do.

Why do Mormons go on missions?

I have also felt when you know something is true you need to live what you know and act on what you know. which is why I served a mission. I knew it was true and I needed to share it with everybody around me. I Personally cared about others and wanted them to find the happiness that I have found with the restored gospel.

How I live my faith

I have had many callings in my faith all which have been rewarding one way or another, I have Worked as a Sunday school teacher for children ages 6-8, and A teacher for children 1 1/2 to 3 years old.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Because we believe that family is central to gods plan. those relationships with our family are meant to last forever and not just until we pass from this life.

After I joined the Mormon Church I learned about the importance of families. Not long after that I realized that if I was going to follow this teaching I needed to tell my father that I loved him. That was very difficult for me since my dad and I argued so much. I spent the better part of 2 weeks trying to determine how I could do this. When the time came I found that the words came more easily than I had thought. From that point to the time he died, about 22 years later, he and I had an entirely different relationship. We were now friends. And I found how much I regretted all our arguments while growing up. And now I find that I miss him and more fully understand how important our families are.

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

At various times, the Lord has commanded His people to practice plural marriage. For example, He gave this command to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, and Solomon (Doctrine and Covenants 132:1). At other times the Lord has given other instructions. In the Book of Mormon, the Lord told the prophet Jacob “for there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife: and concubines he shall have none... for if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things” (Jacob 2:27-30).

In this dispensation, the Lord commanded some of the early Saints to practice plural marriage. The Prophet Joseph Smith and those closest to him, including Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball, were challenged by this command, but they obeyed it. Church leaders regulated the practice. Those entering into it had to be authorized to do so, and the marriages had to be performed through the sealing power of the priesthood. In 1890, President Wilford Woodruff received a revelation that the leaders of the Church should cease teaching the practice of plural marriage (Official Declaration 1).

The Lord’s law of marriage is monogamy unless he commands otherwise to help establish the House of Israel (see Encyclopedia of Mormonism Vol. 3, pp. 1091-1095).
