Hi, I'm Dominic
I am British and live in North Wales. I'm a Mormon and have been a member of the church for 11 years.
About Me
I am 68 years young and live in North Wales, UK. I have two sons, one 40 and my youngest 13 lives with me. My eldest lives in Australia and gave me my first Grandchild 4 years ago. I love the countryside and am fortunate to be able to walk 3 or 4 miles most days. We have good beaches locally and we enjoy picnics, games and just being lazy there. I love my family, reading and being active within the church.
I used to be in business until I became very ill some 24 years ago. During my illness I became uneasy with the ways of my life and began to search for the truth of life. I was not religious before but it felt right to look at some of the worlds churches and faiths. After about 10 years of searching, during which I learned many things of the world of God, all new to me but which felt right, I stumbled upon The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints. After some 5 weeks of being taught by the Missionaries I prayed to know whether this was The True Church and I received a strong affirmation. I was then baptised and confirmed a member and have never looked back nor had second thoughts. Many of the things I had learned from the Bible, and which I did not find elsewhere, I found within the Church. The Book of Mormon confirmed and added to my understanding.
Being a member has changed my life for the better and I love every day now. I am a living witness of the changes for better that being a member of His restored church brings.
Why I am a Mormon
Some time after my conversion I can remember pondering how my life had changed and what this meant to me. I was happy with what I was learning and the direction my life was going.
As I mention above, my life has changed for the better and it now has purpose. I would not change what I have, nor who I am, for anything. Before, I sought pleasure in the things of this world, which I now recognise are temporary. Now I have eternal principles to live by and work for.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ, in it's fulness, is a wonderful thing to have to guide me. That I can be confident that I am building an eternal family, with the sure knowledge that we will be together for all time, is the most wonderful gift and blessing.
I testify that this is The Saviours restored Church and that it does bring the necessary ordinances to be saved back home to our birthright, the Celestial Kingdom where our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, live.
Personal Stories
Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?
Prayers play a very important part in my life because I know that I have a Father in Heaven who listens to and acts upon prayer. I am a living witness of this and know, that through faith, you too can be so blessed.
What is hope and what do you hope for?
Hope is in a better future and, as I build an eternal family, through Family History work and through completing that work in a Temple, I have hope in living again with my Father in Heaven
How can we develop greater harmony in our homes?
By having faith in Jesus Christ, repenting, being baptised, receiving the Holy Ghost and enduring; by keeping and living the Commandments; by praying and studying the Scriptures daily; and by doing all we are asked to do, through our calling, or whatever we are else.
What have you done successfully to shield your family from unwanted influences?
By living the Gospel, by teaching the principles of God as found in scripture and by being an example to my family, I can ensure they can live close to their Creator and not suffer the problems and buffetings I had to endure when I lived without faith.
Whether I am successful only time will tell. It is not easy in this world to live different standards, but by being determined to do so and by being that example, my family can see the peace and joy that living those standards brings.
Please share your feelings/testimony of Joseph Smith.
I respect and regard Joseph Smith as the first prophet of this last dispensation of time. I know he was chosen of God to restore His Church again for the last time. I love joseph Smith for the good example he is and for the simple way he stood for what he believed, even under the most trying circumstances.
If what he saw and did was not true then he, as any sane man, would have confessed he was wrong and gone his way. Such were the severe afflictions he had to bare. Joseph did not, and could not, because he knew the truth of the work he was called, of God, to do. If God knew he knew it then he could not deny the truth of the work.
And I, as him, know this truth and, as him, am a living witness of this simple truth.
How I live my faith
I live my faith by living the commandments and keeping the covenants I have made. I do my best to make my home a place that The LORD may wish to visit and try to keep my life in line with His teachings.
I try to do good everyday and I love sharing my good fortune with those I meet.
The church is family centered and this makes it easy to share as most people have strong family ties.
I love the other members in this area and enjoy their friendships and how we watching over each other.
I love my calling, as the Branch Priesthood Leader, Branch meaning we are a small congregation. I love Home Teaching and the families I am responsible for. I am now the member of a wider family, within our Branch and within the Church. We meet often, both at chapel and in our homes, as any good family does.
Being a church member has brought purpose and direction to my life.
