About Me

I am married. I have a Bachelor's degree in Theater Lighting Design. I love art, and I love making the world around me more beautiful. I have done theater all over the world, and enjoy learning about other cultures, people, and their stories of life. I grew up in a small town and learned the value of work and faith from my parents who despite not always having enough money or other temporal things, always were focused on trying their hardest, doing their best and trusting that the Lord would bless them as they followed the commandments.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, following a long succession of ancestors that were also members, but I truly believe that every one is a convert in the heart. As I went through my teenage years, I found in necessary to decide for myself what I believed. I prayed and read the Book of Mormon. I wanted to feel the feeling in my heart and soul that what I had been taught and what I was reading was true. I went through a period of great reflection, of looking at the things in life that made me truly happy. I looked back on all the years of my life and tried to glean all the good, and see what had caused it, and how I could continue to feel joy as I went on with my life to college, marriage and family of my own, work and all aspects of my life. I was surprised that all of the "good" things in life could be traced to the wonderful blessing of a 14 yr old boy going into a grove of trees in the country side of New York to pray and ask the Lord which of the churches he should join. The same is true today. All of the greatest blessings in my life, that bring me the most joy, hope, peace of mind, satisfaction, and happiness are all traced back to the boy Joseph Smith and his restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and translation of The Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon, that I prayed about and received conformation for as a teenager is true today, and the promise of finding out the truth personally is universally available to all who ask.

Personal Stories

How does making right choices help us make more right choices?

In my experience I have found that I am the happiest when I am not trying to justify my actions, or reason away my choices. As I try to make excuses for myself, it is harder and harder to keep up a happy attitude, because, inside my soul is in turmoil. On the other hand, I have found that if I start down a path where I am making a choice that is right, there is no justification needed. I am happier, it takes no work at all to maintain inner peace. All the energy that was otherwise wasted on justification and excuses, is instead available for use, and I feel lighter inside. Knowing what is right is easier the next time, because my mind is free of guilt and able to assess the situation and the choices available in a more relaxed and better way.

How I live my faith

I have chronic stomach problems and sometimes my stomach hurts so badly that I struggle to keep my mind focused on where I am and what I am doing. However as I attend my church meetings and serve those who are around me in the church I have found that despite my physical limitations, my heart and soul are always given the strength that they need to fulfill what ever task I am doing in the service of the Lord. I love using my talents to serve the church and the Lord, because it is then that I feel I receive the most growth and satisfaction. My soul feels stronger and healthy even as my body is weak.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Joseph Smith was the prophet that the Lord chose to restore the entirety of His authority and gospel to the earth. Joseph Smith as a thoughtful 14 year old boy was trying to decide which church to join of those that were trying to get his attention and membership during the early part of the 1800's. He read James 1:5 which states: "if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." He decided that he was in need of wisdom and determined that he would go into a quiet place and ask God which of the churches he should join. In answer to his prayer, he beheld two personages, or people in the midst of light who introduced themselves as God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son. They proceeded to tell him to join none of the churches, for they had all become corrupted. In the years following, Joseph Smith, amid the greatest of persecutions and trials, always stayed true to the visions and testimony that he received. He was the person chosen to translate The Book of Mormon, and organize the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He became the first prophet of the latter-days, (meaning since the apostasy). Through Joseph Smith keys, power, and doctrines that had been lost during the Apostasy were restored and returned to the earth. He was falsely accused and jailed multiple times, and was finally martyred by an angry mob in Carthage Jail.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

We want everyone to be able to enter the Temple and feel of the sweet and beautifully peaceful aroma and spirit there. A Temple is a holy and sacred place. Unlike regular church buildings which are also sacred, Temples are specially reserved as places to be separate from worldly influences. Therefore, only those who are living such a life may enter, so as to preserve the Temple's sacredness. But we want everyone to qualify so that they may enter and feel of that spirit. It isn't hard to qualify, but it does take some effort. All that is required is for one to live a Christlike life with a heart that only desires to do good.
