How I live my faith

I live my faith by doing everything I can in my daily life to keep Gods commandments, be a good person, and serve others. As a member of the church I get many opportunities to serve not only in the community around me but also the members of my local congregation that we call a ward. In Corinthians 12 Paul taught about the body of Christ. He explained that each member of Christs church is part of the body. Some are ears, some are mouths, some feet, some hair. All have a responsibility and are needed. Though some have more responsibilities then others each is needed and important. If we were all the nose how would we see? If we were all the eyes how would we hear? Though these verses talk primarily about spiritual gifts we can use the same analogy in the various positions and responsibilities we perform in the church that we call callings. Each member is given a calling in church to give them a chance to fulfill the commandment to serve and love one another. Each calling is purely voluntary. A doctor by profession may be asked to serve as a Bishop or what you would call a Pastor. A plumber a few years later could be asked to take over the same responsibilities. So each member gets a chance to serve in different capacities. In my local congregation I have been asked to serve the Young Men in the congregation. They are between the age of 12 and 18. There is about 11 young men in our small congregation. I teach them about the gospel, how they are to love one another, help one another, do good to others, to pray. I teach them principles on how to become a worthy husband and father by teaching them how to respect women, girls, and children. I teach them also how to be a good citizen by participating and serving their neighbors in the community and teach them to participate to make their cities a place to live in. I teach them leadership skills by giving them experiences in which they are asked to conduct meeting, lead outings, or teach. I teach them about physical fitness and good hygiene and how making these choices reflect in their daily lives. I assist their parents in teaching them to be full functional adults who will contribute withing the societies they live in. I also give them an opportunity to have fun and goof off. I hope to influence them in their lives so that they will be able to help and bless their fellow man.
