Why I am a Mormon

I grew up Mormon, but came to believe and know that the truths taught therein when I read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover. The book is inspired, and proves that God calls prophets in our day and age, as in days of old. The book is too powerful, too well-written, and testifies too well of Christ to believe it was fabricated.

Personal Stories

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you?

I love the Savior's teachings in the Bible. One of my favorite scriptures is in Isaiah, where the Lord says that "He will show you that He hath not forgotten us. For can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee." The Lord will never forget us, He knows who we are, and wants to assist us in our challenges.

How I live my faith

I love to get involved in community service groups and organizations! In college, I served as a President of an LDS Fraternity, as well as on the Student Alumni Board for the University of Utah. Besides that, small community projects is what I love!

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

The Church leadership for the Mormon Church includes the Prophet, his two councilors, and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The Prophet is called to be the leader of the Church until he passes away. When he does, The oldest member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles in seniority for how long he has been in the Quorum, not on his age becomes the new Prophet.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Mormons see Joseph Smith in the same way Jews see Moses - while we respect and honor their lives and their contributions, we understand that they are real people, worthy of our veneration but not our worship. We understand that they were selected for important duties that God called them to complete and we respect the work that they performed. Joseph does occupy a unique place in Mormon theology because so many doctrines of the re-established church can be traced to revelations that were given to him. The scriptures tell that it is "by their fruits" that an individual will be able to determine if someone is acting on God's behalf, and this is one of the central messages of the re-established church, we invite all men everywhere to read and pray about the Book of Mormon since it a tangible fruit of the prophet Joseph Smith's calling as a prophet and restorer of Christ's church. It is my witness that if you do so you will know that the book is true, Joseph is a prophet and the church he founded is true.
