I'm a Texan, devoted husband and father, guitar player, disciple of Christ, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love dates with my wife and time with my family. I enjoy reading, bike riding, golfing, live music and eating great food with great friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always known that I am a child of God; a kind, wise Heavenly Father who has a great plan for his children and wishes to bless them. I know that he sent his son, Jesus Christ to this world to teach us and to save us from our sins.

My search to know God and Christ led me to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Being an active member of the church has made me and my family very happy. We know that after our life's journey, we will return as a family to be with our Father in Heaven.

Personal Stories

What have you done successfully to shield your family from unwanted influences?

We teach ourselves from the word of God. We make place in our lives to study and talk about God's word and what it means to us as individuals and as a family.

Evil is everywhere and it's message is loud and ubiquitous. We must make room in our lives for God's message to us.

How I live my faith

My wife and I pray together twice a day to seek God's direction in our journey through this life.

I have been called to teach a Sunday School class to youth. This year we are studying the Old Testament.

I am also assigned to visit two wonderful families in my ward (congregation) at least once a month. We discuss topics that are important to them.

My wife and I look for opportunities to serve in anyway we can.

Are Mormons Christians?

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. One of my favorite scriptures from the Book of Mormon is:

"And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."

In the truest sense of the word, most certainly yes!
The main belief of the mormon church is that of Christ and His Atonement for mankind. We believe that anybody who wants to can be saved through Christ's Sacrifice for us.
Without Christ, our church would be meaningless, void, and pointless. He is the core of this church. In fact, He is the leader and head of this church.
Some people say we don't believe in Christ, but I wholeheartedly disagree; Christ is everything to us - He rescues us from sin and fear, He is the reason for our being.
We celebrate and rejoice in His life and works and know that He lives today! Christ is risen and is ready to help us in our lives.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

I think there is a massive amount of confusion over the topic of 'grace'. Without fail you'll have Ephesians 2:8 come up, "For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" and then a rebuttal using James 2:20 "But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?"

Isn't it sad that we use Bible verses as artillery against each other? As a Latter-day Saint, let me do my part to set the record straight this isn't a battle over grace vs. works as many think it is. Let's analyze Ephesians 2:8 a little.

It doesn't say this: "For by grace are ye saved and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:"

It's says this: "For by grace are ye saved THROUGH FAITH and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:"

Once you understand what faith entails, the verse becomes much clearer. James was right, faith isn't an idle thing, it's a very dynamic thing. From what I understand from the scriptures, faith is acting on your beliefs. Anyone can believe something, but the gospel requires that we DO something! We repent, we serve, we follow the example of Christ.

Grace which is a gift from God, enables us to become like the Savior. Salvation comes as we repent and as the gift of Christ comes into our lives and transforms us. None of this is possible without grace which comes from God or faith which comes from us.

Anyone who thinks that they can work their way into heaven is badly mistaken. And anyone who thinks that we believe we can work our way into heaven hasn't really studied what we believe.

I think that on the subject of grace, we'll find that we actually agree when we come right down to it.
