Hi, I'm Will
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Starting a family and graduate school.
About Me
I've recently married the love of my life. I am currently a full-time grad-student working towards a Masters of Public Administration.
Why I am a Mormon
The Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and His Church have brought immeasurable good into my life.
I remember as a teen praying to God and seeking my individual answer from Him. I wanted to know for myself the truth of what I'd been taught. My answer came as I felt His love wash over me. I saw and remembered all the good that was already in my life because of His Church, His gospel, and through all the members in my life who were living the best they knew how. As I was touched by His Holy Spirit that night, I was reminded of all the blessings I already had in my life. It was reaffirmed to me what I already knew and had already experienced.
I am a Mormon because this Church and this gospel belongs to Christ. They supply the best way to live, bring the most happiness, and provide access to the sweetest blessings God can give His children. Life is never easy for anyone, but the knowledge I've gained helps keep me moving forward and moving up.
Personal Stories
What have you done successfully to shield your family from unwanted influences?
I am always checking myself against unwanted influences and bad habits sneaking in. The Lord warned us to watch and pray always (Luke 21:36). Having regular family and personal prayer, as well as scripture study, have been vital in keeping the right influences in our home. Setting aside devoted family time to talk, share, laugh, and learn also unite us and strengthen us as an eternal family.
Why do Mormons go on missions?
While every member of the LDS Church can share the gospel and act as a missionary, the opportunity to spend 2 years of my life as a set apart missionary, fully engaged in preaching and service, was one of the best things I've ever done.
Mormon full-time missionaries help fulfill the biblical call to "teach all nations" Matthew 28:19. They go to nearly every corner of the earth to bring the message of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone who will listen. Local members and branches of the Church are also uplifted and strengthened by these young men and women retired couples as well who labor in their part of the world.
A full-time mission is also invaluable to the individual missionary as well. As a dedicated missionary you develops a deep testimony of Christ as your Savior and of His Restored Gospel on the earth. You learn the scriptures inside and out and develop a closer relationship with God. You learn the skill you will need to maintain and further develop your testimony throughout your life. Numerous "life skills" are learned though your service as well. This was my experience and the experience of the vast majority of my fellow laborers in the Lord's harvest see Luke 10:1-2.
Please share your feelings/testimony of Joseph Smith.
I know that Joseph Smith was and is a prophet of God for our day. He was a man and therefor imperfect, but that does not lessen the impact or magnitude of his calling and work. Through him God restored His Church, the fullness of Christ's gospel, and everything we need to be happy in this life, to be saved, and to be exalted in the next.
There are times when doubts seep in, and the adversary tries to dampen or discourage how I feel about Joseph Smith. When that happens I remember what I know through the power of the Holy Spirit. I remember the positive thoughts and feelings I received from the Spirit about the Book of Mormon. I remember that the Book of Mormon is true scripture, so that the man to whom it was given (Joseph Smith) is also a true prophet. I remember how the Spirit spoke to my spirit as I write now to you that Joseph Smith is a prophet for the Lord Jesus Christ and restored the fullness of His Gospel to the Earth.
So much more could be said about Joseph Smith, but for now, this will do.
How I live my faith
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my family comes first. Right now this means loving and serving my wife, as well as us preparing to bring children into this world. It also means working on strengthening our relationships with our siblings and parents.
We also are always looking for ways to help and assist others in our day-to-day lives. Living my faith means actively following Christ's example of serving others, and setting a good example of my own.
We take an active role in our local congregation where can as well. We visit and teach others, looking for ways to be of service, strengthening our brothers and sisters, and opening ourselves to others. My faith requires me to involve myself and participate in my community.
