Marilyn : Mormon.

Hi, I'm Marilyn

I live in WA state. I am a wife and mother. I love music. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy my roles as a wife and mother. My husband is my best friend and we love to travel together and work together in our yard. We have four children ages 8-15. I love music and play the piano and the organ.

Why I am a Mormon

I love the truth that the gospel teaches me, and the knowledge that I am a daughter of God. I am grateful to know that there is a living prophet on the earth today who leads and guides this church. I know that families can be together forever through sacred ordinances offered in holy temples. Understanding the plan of happiness that Heavenly Father created for us helps me work through the difficult times this life has in store. The Book of Mormon is a true witness of the Savior's life and gives me comfort, guidance, and peace as I raise my children.

Personal Stories

How can we develop greater harmony in our homes?

Having four children, two of which are teenagers, there are many times when harmony seems to have abandoned our home. It is something we are constantly working on. There will always be disagreements, arguments, differences of opinion, but we work at it. Everyday.

Communication is so important. We often have family council meetings where everyone has the opportunity to voice their concerns and frustrations. Each time we finish a meeting, we find that we understand each other better and are more able to work together as a family in harmony.

Families are a beautiful gift from a loving Heavenly Father, and we want to be together forever. This life is the time for us to grow and learn and experience, and we are grateful that we have each other on this journey.

Can you think of a specific challenge in your family that Gospel Principles helped overcome?

Family is such an important part of this life and the Gospel places so much emphasis on families. Our family is currently facing one of the most difficult and heart breaking situations involving extended family members. There has been infidelity, abandoning family and living a lifestyle not in keeping with Gospel Principles. Needless to say it is a hard thing to understand. The situation requires forgiveness.

In Doctrine & Covenants and throughout the scriptures, we are taught to forgive.

D&C 64: 10
"I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men."

This Gospel Principle is so important and serves as a daily reminder to me that although this trial is hard, and we feel hurt, it is our duty to forgive. I know that by working at forgiveness, and through the beautiful gift of the Savior's Atonement, this burden will be lifted and our hearts can once again feel at peace.

What have you done successfully to shield your family from unwanted influences?

Because the world around us has so much to offer, we have to be very careful to only bring into our home that which will uplift and edify. We avoid filthy movies, television, music and literature. We have installed protections on our computers to prevent the negative influences of the internet to destroy our family. This allows our children to safely use the internet. There are valuable tools that help edit movies and sites that help us choose wisely what films, literature and music we allow in our home.

How I live my faith

Service in the church is an important part of my life. I love learning through serving. I currently work in the Relief Society organization as well as play the piano for the choir and play the organ for church meetings.
