Hi, I'm Carrie Eliza
and I'm a Mormon
About Me
During my childhood years, I moved every few years because of my Dad's job as an accountant for the LDS church. My family lived in Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador and South Africa. In college I was drawn to foreign travel and culture and I interned with different organizations serving children in Romania and Uganda.
Today I am a mom to two toddlers and a baby and I am a wife to my favorite friend and hero.
I love being a sister and a friend. I spend time with my sisters and mom on the phone, chat and email. Some of my favorites things include my food processor, my piano and my colored pencils. I enjoy the chance to dance and sing, but recently my most favorite thing is to read with my kids or sit back and watch them run around in dress-up clothes ie, boots, belts and fairy wings.
I love my family and friends and I am so grateful for the gospel principles that tie us all together.
Why I am a Mormon
I enjoy watching the missionary movie 'The Restoration; a story of Joseph Smith' with my family often. The movie begins by conveying a simple, peaceful feeling of hope found in a young boy of fourteen years. In a time of much religious debate and confusion, Joseph Smith found solace in the scripture of James 1:5 which directed him to pray for direction in his faith.
One of my favorite parts of that movie shows a quick exchange between a father and a son. Joseph's father spends time whittling and carving out a small toy horse for one of his younger sons. The movie narrator quotes the scripture in Matthew 7:11, "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" Every time I see this part of the movie I think of my relationship with my children. I give all that I can to my kids and I spend countless hours making and preparing them small, loving gifts each day.
I know that God is a loving father. I know that he spends all of his time and energy striving to make life good for us. When we are still, when we are calm, we can feel His peace.
Through the feelings of peace and assurance that the Holy Ghost offers, I know that this Gospel is true. I am sure that God appeared to Joseph Smith, and through him, restored His gospel today for us to follow. I am so grateful for this understanding and the knowledge we can learn from the Bible, Book of Mormon and modern day prophets.
Personal Stories
How has attending Church services helped you?
I have very little children and they don't sit through an entire hour of church service very well. I often have to take my kids out into the lobby or mother's room during the first hour of church. In the past, I've often wondered, "Is it even worth coming to church when I could be at home where my daughter has the chance to take a nap?" But my sister-in-law gave me the following perspective: We should be at church, even if for no other reason that God asks us to attend church. We should have faith that blessings will come when we follow His commandments. Sometimes it might not seem like the kids get much out of church but they can learn a lot about Jesus even by walking the halls and seeing pictures of Christ's life or feeling of His spirit there. Attending church service gives me the opportunity to feel of His spirit, take the sacrament and ponder about Christ, and meet others of my faith for support and encouragement.
How I live my faith
One of my favorite things about being a member of the LDS church is the camaraderie and welcome I find among my fellow sisters in the church. I enjoy my volunteer job as a visiting teacher because I get to share intimate, spiritual experiences with close friends by preparing inspired quotes and lessons to share with them in their homes. I like volunteering in the primary, offering myself to play the piano or help in the nursery.
Of course, I live my faith most prominently in my every day actions at home as a wife and mother. I aspire to be a mother who shares her testimony often, teaches correct morals and lives by example. I share Bible and Book of Mormon stories with my children over breakfast and I pray with them by the bedside at night.

Joseph Smith
As is the case throughout history God has communicated to His children through prophets. God used a humble man as a prophet to restore His Church on earth who ultimately died defending His faith.
