The Gospel of Jesus Christ has been the single greatest blessing in my life.

About Me

Most importantly I am a child of God. I want nothing more than to be happy in this life, and prepare to return to God's presence in the next. For me, I've found that the greatest happiness comes in keeping the commandments of God.

I'm a student at Brigham Young University and work part-time as a teller at a bank. I also serve in the congregation that I am a part of. Life, for me, is busy and at times overwhelming, but when I try to be grateful for what God has given and see things through an eternal perspective I am confident that I can accomplish anything.

I love being active and trying new things. I love playing sports - volleyball, soccer, basketball, etc. - and enjoy other activities like snowboarding, wakesurfing, wakeboarding, and the like. I hope someday to do a triathlon, but don't really have the time to train for one right now.

As much as I love sporting activities and the great outdoors, I find the greatest satisfaction in serving God and in serving His other children. It's not always the easiest to put my own interests aside and serve others, but when I do I find it to be one of the greatest sources of joy.

I firmly believe that happiness can be had regardless of situations or circumstances, and that the Lord "doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world, for he loveth the world" (2 Nephi 26:24).

Why I am a Mormon

Short version: I grew up a Mormon

Long version: In the process of growing up as a Mormon I experienced doubts, not just about Mormonism, but even more basic principles like is there even a God. The Book of Mormon teaches about prayer and receiving personal revelation. I decided that since it was so important to those around me I would take the time to apply the things I had been taught and see if I could obtain this "testimony" (spiritual witness of truth) that everyone had always talked about, and that seemed so mystical to me.

Though I had prayed many times before, at the age of 14 I was determined to discover for myself if there really was a God. I began praying, but not just thinking words in my mind to myself. I really began to hope that there was a God, ponder on what it would mean for me if there was a God, what I would be expected to do, and then my prayers became more sincere and more real. Eventually my heart became prepared to receive my answers. I began to really feel and understand a relationship with God, my Heavenly Father.

Well, there are plenty of other good religions in the world with a belief in God, so I wasn't done with my experimenting. I followed the same process with different doctrinal teachings in the Mormon church to come to know if the doctrine being taught in the Book of Mormon was true.

What I'm saying is that I'm a Mormon because I've received answers to prayers that the doctrine taught in the Mormon church is the doctrine of Jesus Christ himself.

All that aside, I stay a Mormon because I know its true and when I really live by the teachings of the Mormon church, which really are the teachings of Christ, I am happy, isn't that what we all want, happiness?

Personal Stories

How does making right choices help us make more right choices?

When asked this question I am reminded of a quote my mother had on our fridge growing up: "That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do, not that the nature of the thing has changed, but that our power to do has increased." I don't know who said this, but I have found it to be true in my life. As we resist temptation in our lives, it becomes progressively easier to continue to resist temptation.

How I live my faith

It's quite simple; frequent-sincere prayer, diligent scripture study, church attendance, seek to provide service, abstain from inappropriate entertainment and behavior, basically I do the things that bring the Holy Spirit into my life and show that I love God. When I do this he blesses me.

One of the greatest ways I had to live my faith was serving for two years as a missionary. It was a great opportunity to serve others and help them strengthen their faith in God so they too could be blessed in ways that I have been blessed. Serving as a missionary not only blessed others but brought many and great blessings for me that will last through this life and into the next.

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

When a member of the church chooses to serve a mission they are responsible for raising funds to support them during their two years of service. For me personally, my mission was funded by my own personal savings, as well as assistance from my family and other members of the congregation I was a part of. These funds can be made in monthly increments through the Church, which has a program for organizing and distributing funds as needed to cover costs of rent, transportation, food, etc. Anyone can contribute to the Church's general missionary fund.

Are there restrictions based on race or color concerning who can join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have the priesthood?

Nope, “every faithful, worthy man in the Church may receive the holy priesthood, with power to exercise its divine authority, and enjoy with his loved ones every blessing that flows therefrom, including the blessings of the temple. Accordingly, all worthy male members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood without regard for race or color.”
