About Me

I'm happily married to my sweetheart and best friend and together we are beginning the journey of parenting. We have two wonderful children who keep us laughing and smiling every day. I enjoy spending time with my family, participating in sports, reading, and learning new things.

Why I am a Mormon

I've had many spiritual assurances through the Holy Ghost that this is the Lord's true, restored church upon the earth. These have come as I've read and prayed about the Book of Mormon, listened to and tried to follow the words of living prophets and apostles, and as I’ve observed God’s hand in my life. Having developed a knowledge of the complete, restored gospel truths found in this church has strengthened my faith in God and in Jesus Christ. I know that they live. The teachings of this church have also helped me to keep an eternal perspective which keeps me grounded and doing good things. Overall, being a Mormon has brought great joy to me and my family.

Personal Stories

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?

One of the teachings that has had the biggest impact on my life is from Christ's Sermon on the Mount where he instructs his disciples to first seek the kingdom of God and to have faith that their other needs will be provided for. This has helped me to set priorities on the most essential things relating to my faith. As I've tried to do this, seeking to follow the Lord's will first, I've observed how He has provided for our family in miraculous ways and how things always seem to work out.

How I live my faith

I try my best to follow the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. I actively serve in church assignments and look for opportunities to help others, especially those in need.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

We believe that both the Bible and Book of Mormon are ancient books of scripture. The main difference between the two is that the Bible primarily takes place in Europe and Asia, whereas the Book of Mormon takes place in North and South America. They each contain the writings of prophets and a record of God's dealings with the people. The Bible has been translated over the years several different times by several different people into several different versions. The Book of Mormon was translated once through a modern day prophet from the 19th century named Joseph Smith. We believe that Joseph was led to the ancient record by the angel Moroni, who was the last author of the Book of Mormon that originally buried the plates. The book's truth affirms whether Joseph Smith was indeed a prophet and whether this church is true. Having both books of scripture help clarify much of the doctrinal confusions in Christianity.

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

David C answered...

Mormons practiced polygamy because the Lord commanded some of them to do so, for purposes known to the Lord. At the time, there were no national laws prohibiting polygamy. When the Supreme Court ruled that later anti-polygamy laws were constitutional, the Lord directed Pres. Woodruff to issue the Manifesto, and the practice ended in the Church.
