Robin: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Robin

My husband and I own our own business and our little boy is about to turn 1! I love being a mother, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, I grew up down south and decided to go to BYU for college after I graduated highschool.

After attending BYU my husband and I moved to Arizona. We love the outdoors, and though we miss Utah I believe that the desert has it's own, unique beauty.

My husband taught me how to ride dirtbikes, and we also love to camp, fish, hike, and play outdoors.

We are very family oriented and part of the reason we moved to Arizona is because most of my husbands family, and some of mine live here as well.

We just had our first little boy last year and he is the most amazing person ever. I love watching and playing with him each day as he explores this new world and figures out how to make his body work. I love being a mom, but still enjoy working with my husband on our business. Working from home has given me the best of both worlds, and I feel incredibly blessed.

Why I am a Mormon

Because it brings happiness and peace into my life. There are questions that we all have asked in the quite parts of our hearts and minds. Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has helped me find the answers to the important ones.

I know that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me, who sent His son to provide the ultimate example, atone for all of our sins, and provide a way for us to return to our Father's presence.

I know that my Savior, Jesus Christ, lives. He loves me, and he wants me to succeed in this life.

I know that families can be forever, and that as a parent the greatest chance I can give my children for success in this life and the next is by providing them with a good example and a solid foundation. The gospel of Jesus Christ helps me do so.

I know that Joseph Smith was called by God to RESTORE the true church to the earth including all of the keys of the priesthood to perform saving ordinances and receive revelation and guidance from our Heavenly Father that is applicable to us, now.

I know that we still have modern day apostles and prophets. They are the mouth piece of God, and as we listen to them we will gain insight and counsel that will allow us to successfully navigate the most perilous circumstances.

I know that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Christ, that it gives powerful insights to those who read it with real intent, and that if you ask of God the purpose and truthfulness of this book will be testified to you.

I know that the Church is true, I know that it brings forth good fruit that benefits all man, whether they accept it or not, and I know that Satan will never again put out this light!

Personal Stories

How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?

Have you ever tried to put something together before you read the directions that came with it in the box? A lot of times you can get things lined up pretty close, and what you built will even resemble the picture on the box. However the few nuts, bolts and screws that are left over often have an important impact on the ability to function, and outcome of using what you just put together.

Life feels like that, I know what I want my life to look like, to feel like, and to be. But the road to getting what I desire is often filled with hiccups and failures. I have found that reading the Book of Mormon has always allowed me to draw parallels between the stories recorded, and what I am trying to accomplish. It helps me rearrange elements in my life so that I can get where I want to be, and know when something is not in the Lords plan for my life.

I have always submitted that there is nothing in life, good or bad, that isn't detailed in the scriptures. This includes consequences both good and bad for actions and inactions. When I truly allocate the time to study the scriptures, take notes, review notes, discuss with my family and friends, and pray to my Father in Heaven about what I have read, then my life makes more sense. I find that my days go more smoothly, and I have an inner sense of peace that allows me to better endure both the good and the bad.

What has helped develop greater harmony in your home?

Being the one to forgive and remembering that kindness begins with me.

As a member of a family unit, I try to remind myself that we succeed or fail as a group. Which means that I need to constantly think of the other members of my family before I think of myself. I have noticed that as I strive to do this, other members of my family start to follow suit, and then as I try to meet their needs, they meet mine.

A good example of this is when a silly argument happens. Often we are so stubborn that no one wants to concede the point and tempers start to flair. At these times I have realized that I have a decision to make. I can win the battle and lose the war, or vice versa. I have decided that winning small arguments aren't worth breaking down family relationships and causing continued contention and un-needed competition in my home.

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

Though I am not perfect, I strive to pray over everything in my life. Not in public, but in private. Oftentimes in my mind and heart while I continue with what I am currently working on. I seek to include the Lord in all my decisions, tell him about my day's plans, give immediate thanks for blessings that are large or small. In the Book of Mormon it says,

" Yea, humble yourselves, and continue in aprayer unto him. Cry unto him when ye are in your fields, yea, over all your flocks. Cry unto him in your houses, yea, over all your household, both morning, mid-day, and evening. Yea, cry unto him against the power of your enemies. Yea, cry unto him against the devil, who is an enemy to all righteousness. Cry unto him over the crops of your fields, that ye may prosper in them. Cry over the flocks of your fields, that they may increase. But this is not all; ye must pour out your souls in your closets, and your secret places, and in your wilderness. Yea, and when you do not cry unto the Lord, let your hearts be full, drawn out in prayer unto him continually for your welfare, and also for the welfare of those who are around you. (Alma 34:19-27)"

These words have been inspiring to me, and have helped me draw closer to my Father in Heaven as I seek to gain his counsel and include him in all aspects of my life.

How I live my faith

I have had the pleasure to work with the youth in several wards that my husband and I have lived in in the past. And currently I teach the 14-15 year old youth in Sunday School. I love my class, I know that sometimes they are rowdy and even difficult, but I enjoy learning from the scriptures each week as I prepare my lessons, and I enjoy watching them learn.

Teaching this class wasn't always easy for me though. I had my first baby several months ago, right around when I was asked to teach this class. And my husband has to go out of town for business occasionally. One time when he was away, I didn't end up having anyone to hold my baby and he was very cranky (I later realized he was starting to get sick). The lesson went miserably, my son cried while I held him, the kids weren't engaged and about 20 minutes in to our hour long lesson I gave up. I told the kids we could just sit and talk till it was time to go to their next class. I went home that day feeling very dejected, and was going to give it one more go and then call it quits if things didn't get better. I didn't think it was fair to my child or the kids to put them through that again. I prayed about what to do over the next week, but wasn't coming up with any permanent solutions.

Then the next Sunday one of my friends (who my son adores) was released from her calling and she offered to hold my son for me during my class. Now every Sunday she comes and finds me and takes him for the hour that I teach. I am so grateful for her help, and the class goes much more smoothly now. The kids are used to me and my teaching style now and lessons are much more interactive and fun. Most importantly, they are learning, and remembering, and thinking.

Most people are afraid of kids this age, probably because they don't have the energy, but as I watch my son grow so quickly, I pray that he will have teachers as he continues to grow that will care, and try. So that is what I want to do as well.
