I grew up in Southern California. I am the mother of 3 wonderful sons and I teach at a local college. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I teach English and reading classes at a local college. I am married and a mother to three sons. I love to joke around with my sons, hang out with my husband, and to take long walks. I love to be outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe that I have a literal Heavenly Father who loves me and all of His children very much. I know that the purpose of this life is for me to grow and to learn how to become more like my heavenly parents. Heavenly Father did not send me to earth without a plan to return to His presence. I know that there is a plan for all of us and that this plan is the key to eternal happiness. I know that Jesus Christ is the key person in Heavenly Father's plan and that if I follow in His footsteps I will be able to have all the blessings that my Heavenly Father wants to give to me. I believe that Heavenly Father has not left me uninformed. He has provided me with tools such as the Holy Bible, The Book of Mormon, and other modern scriptures to help me understand His plan. I also believe that we have a living prophet on the earth today and that through this prophet Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ continue to communicate with us to provide us with guidance and help as we need it. All I have to do is choose whether or not to listen and to act.

Personal Stories

What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?

Every night before we go to bed we kneel together and have family prayer. We also read from the scriptures as a family. I believe that one of the responsiblities I have as a mother is to make our home a place where our children can feel that they have some spiritual guidance and support. On Monday evenings each week we have Family Home Evening. During this hour or so, we play games, have a short spiritual lesson, make treats, and sing songs together.

How I live my faith

I am active in my church and community. I love to work with the Boy Scouts of America. Right now I am a Cubmaster in a local Cub Scout Pack. I also enjoy serving in the public schools as a volunteer. For the past couple of years I have worked with a local PTA. I love working with the youth and I have enjoyed going camping and doing service projects with teenagers in our ward.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Heavenly Father's plan includes giving righteous men the priesthood so that they can perform the necessary ordinances and ceremonies essential to completing this journey here on earth. Women also have key roles in Heavenly Father's plan. Mormon women often have leadership positions in the Church particularly in the areas of providing for the spiritual and physical welfare for other families, teaching youth and children, and in supporting the priesthood leaders as they perform their responsibilities. Women are a powerful influence in this world whether it is as community leaders, mothers, business leaders or in less conspicuous social ways such as in families, neighborhoods and in the home. I do not feel undervalued or marginalized because I do not have the priesthood. My role is simply different, yet equally as important. Heavenly Father requires both men and women to serve in His Church. It has been this way since the beginning.

Family is very important in the church for more reasons than can be explained here. Holding the priesthood is just one of these reasons. Husbands act and bless their family with their priesthood, but wives benefit and honor the priesthood through their husbands. It is a symbiotic relationship. As I have participated in the church in various activities I have come to understand my importance as a woman in the church. There cannot be one without the other.

Are there restrictions based on race or color concerning who can join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have the priesthood?

There is no discrimination or exclusions of race. The Lord says in the bible, "...man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the Heart." 1Sam 16:7. The Lord does not care what race or color you are. All he cares about is you. He loves you.
