Garrett Leidich: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Garrett Leidich

I grew up in Detroit, I love Ultimate Frisbee, Philosophy, and Computers. I speak Chinese, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently serving a Chinese speaking mission for the church in Houston, Texas. I grew up in the suburbs of Metro Detroit. I've been raised with the gift of the fulness of the Gospel that not many others have near me. I enjoy Swimming, Ultimate Frisbee, playing the piano, Computer type things, and many other items that a college aged adult loves. I have earned the rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts of America. I've taken a Philosophy class which has helped my testimony grow about our Heavenly Father, His Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Why I am a Mormon

Our church believes strongly on the aspect of choice and that we all have the ability to choose for ourselves. I've had hardships, like all others have, but I have determined in my mind that I will continue to follow in faith. Also, a huge part of the gospel is knowledge, and learning more about everything we can, and those reasons among others are why I have decided on this course in life.

Personal Stories

How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?

The Plan of Happiness has provided an eternal goal to consistantly strive for. It's a long term, highly demanding goal that I can use all my time to get closer and closer to achieving. It also provides a background to this life, gives it meaning, and tells of things to come. It gives us a snapshot of things that we used to know, before choosing to come to earth in order to help fulfill the plan.

Why do Mormons go on missions?

We go on missions to share to everyone the joy that we have. We wish to give everyone a chance to know Jesus Christ. Not only that, but if gives the missionary a chance to learn and grow in the gospel while serving God's children. Missionary work will not end until every person who lived, of now lives on the earth has had a fair chance to hear God's message.

What is hope and what do you hope for?

Hope has lost some of it's original meaning. Hope is a sincere desire, without doubt. Hope is a driving force in the actions of people, notably when in dire straits.

I hope for goodness in the world. I hope for people to be charitable, loving, and wanting to be better than they are now. I hope I can be successful in my works, however they may be termed. I hope I can return to my Father, and become even as he is.

Why do Mormons do family history or genealogy work?

We beleive it to be an active fullfillment of prophecy. Family History work also helps preserve our history and a whole and keeps our ancestors in our memories.

How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?

The words written in the Book of Mormon testify of three groups of people living in early America. They show the good and the bad of each of them, and show the downfall of two of the groups, and the degenerate state of the third. It gives us a historical example of what could happen to us if we follow their path.

The history of how the Book of Mormon came about also shows of its divinity. The hardships endured to translate and publish it show a definitive effort from our common adversary to bring us father from Christ. The fact that its here regardless shows a divine purpose.

Think about your everyday activities. What are things you act upon each day where you cannot see the end results? How does faith move you to action?

Every single day is based on faith. We do not know how the day will turn out, regardless of how minutely we may plan. Events can always change at any time. We expect the sun to rise each day, we expect that we need to eat, and everything else that goes on in our daily lives, and we plan accordingly. These actions are based on faith, not any kind of knowledge. Faith keeps us steered in the direction we want to go, regardless of the current.

How I live my faith

I am an active member, currently serving a mission. I've previously held positions of responsibility in our youth groups. Before leaving to go on a mission, I helped my companions Home Teach various families. I participated in the Youth activities while growing up and held some leadership positions in those. I became an Eagle Scout through my ward's Boy Scouts of America troop.
