Hi, I'm Nicol

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the mother of two beautiful little girls. I always wanted to be a mother and very grateful for the opportunity. Becoming a mother wasn't an easy thing for me. After many years of infertility treatments we turned to adoption, only to later find out that I was pregnant. It took me 7 years to have my daughter and thank my Heavenly Father every day for her.

Because of my desire to be a mother, I chose to be a stay-at-home-mom. Motherhood is the hardest job I've ever had and also the most rewarding!

I enjoy reading, nature, organizing and cleaning, and writing. I especially love classical music.

Why I am a Mormon

I was technically born in the church, but not raised in it. My family chose another path. I remember being a young child and walking to church every Sunday to attend Primary a meeting for children ages 3 to 11. Later I went to Young Womens ages 12 to 17 and felt so happy whenever I was there. It provided me with the peace and security that my home life was lacking.

In many ways I consider myself a convert because I had to make the decision to live the gospel standards. I decided that I always wanted to have that peaceful feeling with me that I experienced as a child. I am grateful for that choice because it has brought so many blessings into my life.

I have been sealed in the temple to my husband. What a wonderful feeling to know that I will always have my family in the eternities as long as I live worthily.

I know that our Father in Heaven has a plan for us. We have been sent here to this earth to be tested and tried. Some of those trials have been very difficult, especially the one that it took me years to have children. I learned and grew with that experience and even though it was difficult, I would not change it.

I am grateful for our Savior's atoning sacrifice. Without it I would never be able to return home to our Father. I look forward to the day when I will see Him again.

How has your knowledge of the Plan of Happiness changed/benefited your life?

At times we do things that we don't know or understand the purpose of. We may feel like there is no accomplishment, drive to finish a task or a desire to be better. One thing that I love about the Plan of Happiness that our Father in Heaven presented to us, is that we know exactly where we have been and where we are going. We know that we are His spirit children. He taught us before we came to the earth. And we know that the purpose of our life here on this earth is to gain a body, like our Father's, and to be tested. Would we follow Him and keep His commandments while living here? But for me the most comforting thought is that if I live my life in the right way, if I keep all of His commandments then I can live with Him someday. He wants us to return home and because of that I try to live my life in a way that I will be able to someday. Having a knowledge of the Plan of Happiness helps me to remember who I am and that my life has purpose. It gives me a desire to be the best person that I can be!

What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?

It is very important to me that I do all that can to strengthen my family. In a world as scary as it is, I need to be committed in doing things regularly with my family.

We always have family prayer morning and night. What unity and love we feel for each other when we get to kneel down together and thank our Father in Heaven for our blessings and to ask for guidance. My husband works out of town a lot and usually for two to three weeks at a time. In order for us to continue family prayer we will put him on the speaker phone and still kneel down to pray. It lets my children know that prayer is important and we should do it wherever we are.

How I live my faith

As a member of the church, we are asked to help serve in various callings. All "positions" or callings are unpaid. I love that I can use my skills and knowledge to serve someone else. I have had many callings over the years, working with all sorts of age groups.

I currently serve in my ward as a Cub Scout Leader. I love being able to teach the boys age 8 new things. We meet once a week to work on achievements to earn their Wolf. We not only have fun but we also get to talk about the gospel, Jesus Christ and serving others.

I am also a visiting teacher. Once a month I visit three sisters in my ward. I share a message about the gospel with them and get to chat. I think that is my favorite part. I love being able to talk with them about their lives. It's also a wonderful opportunity to reach out and to help them.

Living my faith is not only done at church or with church sponsored activities. I think the best way that I live my faith is in my own home. I love explaining things to my 3 years old who seems to nearly understand it. The look on her face when she sees a picture of the temple or when she wants to shake the missionaries hands is priceless.

Once a week we have a Family Home Evening. We teach our children the gospel, play games, spend quality time together and sings songs! My children's favorite!

We also have family prayers morning and night, we study our scriptures together and we find ways to serve the people around us. I want my children to have a knowledge of the gospel and in order to do that I must live my faith at all times!
