Emily.: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Emily.

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

A photographer by trade, but when I'm not shooting, I'm cooking, sewing, blogging, avoiding cleaning, and trying to be a good wife. A Domestic Goddess, if you will.

Why I am a Mormon

The overall peace I feel in my life when I strive to live the teachings of Christ and follow the modern prophet's counsel is too great a confirmation for me to deny it. Anytime I feel my faith start to waiver or doubt creep into my mind, I re-evaluate the things I've learned about this gospel, and my faith is again restored. The gospel just makes sense to me.

Personal Stories

How has attending Church services helped you?

Sometimes attending church services is tough. I occasionally find myself wishing it were shorter, later in the day, etc. However. I know that, without fail, if I attend church weekly and go with a learning mindset, I am edified and benefit from it on many levels. It is a chance to center myself and refocus. I am reminded by others and by God that the gospel brings peace and happiness into my life.

Without weekly church services I would be lost. Hearing other members of the congregation share their thoughts, feelings, and insights about the gospel opens my eyes to ideas I would never have come across on my own. I am grateful for the structure of the church in that we can not only learn from one another, but teach one another as well. So, whereas it can sometimes be a challenge to stay excited about three hours of church every week, it is a source of replenishment and edification more often than not.

How I live my faith

Being a Mormon is a solid part of my identity. Though I may not use it as a descriptor when first meeting someone, it will inevitably come up, and I am excited to share that part of who I am with others. My religion is not something I take lightly, and I want it to be evident in all aspects of my life. When someone finds out I am a Mormon, I want it to make sense, not be a surprise. And if IS a surprise, it's only because I'm demonstrating what Mormonism actually is, as opposed to what someone might have heard it is.
