Why I am a Mormon

I prayed for God to help me understand if the gospel, the fully restored gospel of Jesus Christ, was true. Once I knew it was true, I didn't have much choice but to accept it and though it was a huge and often difficult change then... now, I have been forever blessed for my faithfulness and my testimony has only grown since then.

What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?

My husband and I pray together every morning and night, and we pray separately on our own. We also study the scriptures together and apart. In addition, we have one night set apart every week as encouraged by the Church, which is Monday and knowing how awful Mondays can be sometimes, it only makes sense that Mondays would also be our "family home evening" time. We sing a hymn together, plan our week, share a spiritual thought, and then do an activity together. We put each others happiness ahead of our own, we communicate and we live to the best of our ability, selflessly, as Christ taught us to.

It was beautiful.

How I live my faith

People say I glow now.. it's the light of Christ. I'm more patient. I'm more honest. I'm more faithful. I know everything given to me, my family, my friends, my talents, my opportunities, are all from God. I go to Church every week to renew my promise to God and to remember Jesus Christ, my savior, for who, without, I would be nothing and have no opportunity for making my past or current wrongs right. But on top of that, I serve others whenever I can. I am not just Christian on Sunday... I am Christian everyday.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Daisy answered...

Why not? Why would God stop communicating with us through a prophet when he did it before? He is the same God then, today, and forever and as such, it would only make sense for him to give us a prophet today as well.

I do believe that there is a prophet alive today. This was a concept that I struggled with when I was investigating the Church because I was skeptical of ancient prophets, much less a living prophet. As I worked with the Bishop and Stake President (local Church leaders), I began to see that they could receive revelations for my benefit as well as other Church members for whom they have responsibility. Seeing God's power through these good men that I came to know personally helped me realize that our Heavenly Father directs his Church through modern day prophets.

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Brian answered...

Mormon church services are unique. When I first started attending I felt three hours was too long to be in church, but I quickly grew to like it because I realised that each of the three meetings has a very practical, edifying focus. The Sacrament meeting is the principal meeting and it is where everyone (women and men, young and old) come together to have the sacrament (communion) and hear talks by their fellow church members. Since there is no paid clergy, Mormons take turns speaking to the congregation about how a particular principle or doctrine has strengthened their faith in Christ. Depending on the size of the congregation, a Mormon can speak as often as once a year to once every two or three years.

In Sunday School, the youth attend classes according to their age and the adults attend a class together. The curriculum varies from year to year, but the focus each year is on a book of scripture and how its lessons can help us develop stronger families, be better neighbours and parents, etc. For example, this year (2011) all the adults are studying the New Testament.

In the third hour we group together as men and women. The men's class looks at how the gospel of Christ can help us in our roles as men, husbands, fathers, etc., while the women study how Christ's teachings can help them be better women, wives, mothers, etc.

Visitors are welcome in all of these meetings.
