Why I am a Mormon

The purpose of life is to be happy. Everyone in life is trying to find happiness. They search for happiness in different places, many of which do not bring true and lasting happiness. I have found that being Mormon makes me happy no matter what life throws at me.

How does making right choices help us make more right choices?

I am always shocked when I watch or read the news. So many stories featured in the news are results of bad decisions that lead to sadness and misery. Most of these news stories are not the result of just one bad decision, but have been a series of bad choices by an individual or group that just keeps growing.
The teachings or Jesus Christ and the Mormon church help me steer clear of these types of sad and miserable experiences by giving me direction in my everyday life. These everyday choices may seem small and inconsequential however, every good decision made now leads to more good decisions later.

How I live my faith

One of the amazing things about the Mormon church is the opportunities it gives you to serve in all different areas.
As a youth, I was able to gain leadership skills as I helped manage and organize various events within our community and church.
As an adult I have been able to be a part of the church's women's organization, which is one of the world's oldest and largest philanthropic and educational women's organizations in the world. Through these service opportunities I have been able to teach, serve, care for, and help members of my community and church.
The Mormon church provides many organizations to help its members be more like Christ as we are able to serve like He did.

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

I believe the reason for this misconception is due to a lack of understanding, leading to fear. Those who believe the Mormon Church is a cult do not have all facts, have incorrect information and have often never known a Mormon.

Often when people refer to a cult, they are implying that the followers of an organization are being brainwashed or tricked into joining and/or believing. This could not be farther from the truth in regards to the Mormon Church. The Mormon Church encourages its members to acquire all the knowledge they can and to educate themselves as much as possible. Mormon teachings encourage its members to not follow blindly rather, to find out the truth on their own.

Mostly because of misunderstanding and lack of knowledge about the Church. It's easier for people to believe what they hear from other people (who heard it from someone else, who heard it from another person that read it on the Internet...) instead of making an effort to find out from the source.

In addition, there are small, secretive groups that are not part of our Church that use a modified form of the name of the Church for their own group, and have practices that are similar to our worship services and practices. These groups may be involved in illegal activities, especially polygamy, and when the media reports on them, they do not make an effort to distinguish between these groups and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

What is the Relief Society?

The Relief Society is the organization in the Church where women come together to strengthen, serve, and teach each other. It's Motto is "Charity Never Faileth" which women of the Church live by to bring relief to the weary and down trodden. Women meet as a Relief Society each week to learn about the Gospel and grow closer to Jesus Christ. Women are asked to serve in many capacities within the Relief Society and give of their time and talents. There are also activities where women share skills and do service for those in their community as well as victims of disasters around the world.
