Stephanie: Mormon.

Hi, I'm Stephanie

I'm a wife, a mother of 3, and Navajo. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a third generation Mormon. My grandparents listened to the missionary discussions, joined and raised a large family in the LDS Church, attending the little Navajo language congregation near their home. As my maternal grandmother's oldest granddaughter, I spent a lot of time with her as she taught me the responsibilities of being a Navajo woman.

I grew up on the Navajo Reservation and participated in the Indian Placement program, staying with a family in Preston Idaho during the school year. I attended BYU, served a Mormon mission in Europe and finished a Master's degree at Harvard before getting married in the temple. My husband and I have three kids and we recently returned to the Southwest after living abroad.

For now, while my kids are young, they are my primary focus. In my spare time, I enjoy playing my guitar and reading. I love to travel and experience different places and people.

Why I am a Mormon

Because I know that it is truth. My life has been better as a result, it has not taken away the hard times, but has sustained me through the most difficult times. And enjoyed that which is good in my life and multiplied it.
Also, having come from the reservation and traveled down many different roads in my life, the one constant source of hope and strength in my life has been being a member of His church. I know that wherever I have been, abroad or in my homeland that this has been special to me and has kept me strong.

Personal Stories

What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?

My children are young, so I know that if I start early that the things I teach will stay with them as they continue to grow older. One of the things I strongly believe strengthens our family is prayer. Making the time to pray together and teaching them that we can really talk to our Heavenly Father.
Also, we have a family night every Monday evening where we learn about Gospel principles, but we also make time to have fun and enjoy each other's company.

Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?

Because it is so meaningful to me and has brought me much happiness. I want others to experience what I have found to be a bright light in my life.

How I live my faith

I am serving as a counselor in our women's organization in my local ward. I work in getting lessons prepared to teach our women and also assist other teacher's in our ward. I also assist the president of our women's organization with her duties. Our women's organizations motto is "Charity Never Faileth," which I have tried to incorporate into my life.
Before I became a full time Mom, my profession involved working with teenagers. I found that if I did not walk my talk that the teens would not listen to me. I know it is important to live by example and that is how I hope to live my faith.
