I'm working on getting a Masters in Computer Science. I love video games and am currently working on building one. I also love science fiction, and quite often all of these interests go together.

Why I am a Mormon

In the church we're given commandments, and when they're followed, blessings come. After seeing these blessings, and the peace and joy that comes from following this gospel, the evidence, to me, is clear: This is God's church.

How I live my faith

I have a lot of brothers and sisters, and my family is important to me. I'm not very good with words, but as I go through life I keep in mind that I'm setting an example as a big brother for my family. I just try to do my best and do what God would want me to do.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

We don't worship Joseph Smith we just hold him in high regard. Through God's power, Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and established the church in this dispensation. Joseph Smith, however, is not God the Heavenly Father. It is God whom we worship, the creator of this world and our souls.

No. I've never even met the man.

One night I was on the front row of a concert. A big star came to the edge of the stage and held out his hand. EVERYONE rushed forward, climbing over each other, pushing and wedging themselves along, just to touch him. I almost got caught up in that too, and was about to rush ahead when a little voice kicked in "He's just a man. What's the big deal?" At that moment I vowed to never adulate anything less than deity. I will not go to my knees for anyone but a Loving God.

I respect Joseph Smith like I respect any man who tries his best to live according to his conscience. I hope maybe one day I'll get to chat with him over lunch--or over whatever kind of meal they offer in the life beyond. But I cannot worship a man, for why should I place and value one person any higher than another?

What is a ward/stake/branch?

To make the administration of this world-wide church possible, the church is organized into geographical regions and sub-regions. The most basic administrative unit is called the "ward". The wards in the church vary in size but are comprised of a geographical area with anywhere from 300 to 700 members. The ward is presided by a bishop. A group of five to twelve wards are combined to form a "stake". A stake is presided by a stake president.
In regions of the world where there is a lesser concentration of members, "branches" are formed. These branches are equivalent to wards but usually have less members. A branch is presided by a branch president.
This organization makes it possible for 14 million members to each have local leaders that can provide guidance, teaching, and administering of the sacred ordinances of the gospel
